  1. The seal being asked about here is the outer hub seal, the one just behind the drive flange not the stub axle seal. Which brings me question, what does the lip on the stub axle seal actually press on to form a seal? Is the reinstall order first the outer bearing, then the hub spacer in the 2nd photo, then a nut, then a larger washer locking tab, finished with a 2nd locking nut?
  2. This bearing is practically against a face meaning the puller I have presses on the bearing cage, it can't get far enough in because the gap isn't big enough.
  3. Can the pressed on bearing on a differential be removed without sustaining damage? My reason for asking is I have an air-locker not working properly and the supplier is asking for the bearing removal and an accurate height measurement taken, any pressed on bearings I've removed and seen removed involved damaging the bearing.
  4. Thanks. From my reading of that it would appear they are not the same as "upgrading" from a series engine to a 200TDi would require manifold change.
  5. Does a 2.5na exhaust manifold fit a defender 200tdi engine.
  6. The RTC6398 arrived and was fitted today on the 1990 Defender, I'll put the the other one, QFW000020 which replaced part number STC1044, on the shelf as a spare for the TD5 I have as it'll likely fit that model.
  7. Mmmnnn, I was hoping the answer was no as I've removed the old arm and cant get the new one on. I have come across an advert marketing the rtc 6398 arm for the 6 bolt box and the 4 bolt manual box, I was hoping perhaps I had a 4 bolt PAS box one which would account for why it won't slip on.
  8. Is a Defender 6 bolt PAS box fitted with a different drop arm to a 4 bolt PAS box or is the same drop arm compatible?
  9. .10 to 0.17 which is the same mentioned on a Youtube tutorial, I just wasn't sure if that tolerance covered diffs as far back as 1990.
  10. I've a 1990 90 landrover, can anyone tell me the recommended backlash in the rear diff.
  11. Nice one, almost 1/4 million miles too.
  12. According to Arc-Rite it's the same stuff re-branded....watch the video I posted earlier.
  13. The idea behind the video In that case you may as well save yourself a hefty sum by buying the Corroless paint in the video I posted earlier because that's who Buzzweld buys it product from before rebranding it Buzzweld.
  14. https://www.landroverworkshop.com/diagrams/cooling-heating/heating-system/heater-controls_52983 The slider controlling the fan motor speed is playing up, my question is can someone tell me whereabouts does item number 3 in the link (cable control mode control heater) connects to, I've looked around the heater box and see only the control cables at the right-hand side of the steering wheel controlling hot/cold & direction windscreen or footwell?
  15. Has anyone fitted this size of tyre to a Defender running standard suspension or does it definitely require at least a 2" lift (which I really don't want to do)?
  16. I know a guy has done lots of rebuilds using current Shielder chassis and swears by them. There was a few issues with earlier ones which I've been led to believe has now been rectified and according to this guy a Sheilder is now as good as it gets. Likewise I'd be interested in hearing bobtail4x4's verdict.
  17. Apparently if the MAF sensor isn't working to spec the ECU resorts to a default setting therefore doesn't show it as a fault.
  18. My guess would be the MAF sensor. Pity you couldn't temporarily swap a mates just to see.
  19. That's the part I balls up on my first attempt as I had done everything spot-on up to the point I screwed the adjustment down far enough that it then pressed on the injector plunger instead of carrying on until the injector itself had bottomed out before then backing off the 1 turn. If nothing else this confession might prevent someone else making the same mistake. BTW, perhaps someone else has already asked earlier, you said you acquired the Defender with the fault but have you actually ever seen the engine running?
  20. Another thing, I haven't got a Nanocom but i have a Lynx, it can trigger the injectors one at a time and you hear the audible click of each one as it triggers which indicate there's nothing awry, if the Nanocom has that function it's always another thing eliminated.
  21. I think you'll find that's what it was as i had the same. Re-read my post again as i edited it.
  22. Could these showing up as faults not be the result of you disconnecting the injector harness to remove the injectors when you changed the washers and seals? BTW, make sure connector on the injector wiring harness where it exits the rocker cover is clicked into place. Also, that the injectors were bottoming out when they were set as i messed about for long enough wondering why mine wasn't starting after I read the procedure wrong and just bottomed out the locking nut when it bottomed out on the top of the injector!
  23. Isn't the Puma engine the same as in a Ford transit van?
