  1. Hi there I drove from Cape Town to northern Kenya through some fairly rough territory 2 years ago in my D2 V8. The only major problem I had was that the front prop shaft died (with "double knuckle)- very pricey to replace in tanzania. I took spare oil and air filters for service en-route. I did no modifications like sliders, bumpers etc and had no problems. Home made shade cloth over the radiator to catch seeds etc in the long grass. I fitted a front-runner long range fuel tank (behind right rear wheel); dual battery system in the boot with beer fridge; one extra spare wheel on the roof rack; air suspension removed and replaced with britpart springs (bit soft but still great for day to day driving- if i did it again i would keep the springs but definitely add helper springs); I replaced the air suspension compressor etc with an on- board compressor); down here BFG tyres are fairly common and were great; I removed the rear fold out seats and built brackets to hold a water tank (only 20l though)on the one side which was enough for us and the dual battery in the other side. Home made drawer in the boot was brilliant. if possible make your rooftop tent fold out over the back as it gives you an extra shelter over the back door. My roof rack wasn't too loaded most of the time (rooftop tent; spare tyre; one jerry can and firewood) however since our return I have noticed stress cracks in the door pillars where they attach to the roof. My main advice would be to keep it simple and dont get too carried away on mods that add a lot of weight. Comfort in the campsite is paramount though. It is a brilliant car to travel in and I wouldn't hesitate to use it again Cheers Stewart
  2. Hi there Any suggestions for a jammed ignition? My DII has done about 150 000 km, the ignition used to jam occasionally but now seems irreversible. The key goes in but I can't turn it, tried various positions, turning steering wheel, Q20, wire etc all to no avail. Help- stuck at the top of a very steep driveway, steering locked and under a low roof so definitely a 'home job' Cheers Stewart
  3. Hi there My jack on DII has been leaking and it isn't working properly. Is it worth re-filling it and if so how and what oil etc? Thanks in advance Stewart
  4. Hi there I have just changed my spark plugs and noticed that the plugs I was given are different to those I took out (both sets are champions). the ones I took out are RN11YCC'S and the new one's are RC11PYPB4's (a label stuck on the outside says they correspond to NLP100320's). I noticed that the new ones have a very thin looking central pin. Any advice? Thanks Stewart (PS driving a DII, 2000, 3.9)
  5. It's a SII V8, 2000 . I assumed that the compressor is fairly hardy but if that is the case would consider another pump, Thanks Stewart
  6. Hi there I have replaced my SLS with coils and was thinking of using the compressor for pumping up my tyres etc. Has anyone done this and if so how ? How do you detach those pipes without harming them permanently? Cheers Stewart
  7. Funny thing is no bonging at the moment only intermittent hissing of compressor. Maybe it is better to listen to the hissing instead of bonging and leave fuses in?
  8. Hi there I'm on holiday and have just replaced my SLS airbags with springs (hand was forced due to collapsed left side). There are no places nearby to tell the computer so I was wanting to know exactly which fuses etc to remove so as not to upset the three amigo's too much. I presume the fuse in the main box should be left alone as it seems to be linked to the ABS. In the engine compartment box would just the fuse suffice or should I also remove the relay? Thanks in advance Stewart
  9. That does it, will go with them. Do you have contact no's for Britpart agents in SA?
  10. good guess-Cape Town. Thanks for the suggestion
  11. I'm thinking of replacing my DII air suspension with Pedders springs (rear only)- does anyone have an opinion on them (rubbish or not etc). Cheers Stewart
