  1. I put a second hand master cylinder on to see if it was that which lasted a week so I put a new master cylinder on. I thought why not change the slave while I am on! Well when I took the slave off the fork dropped off inside the box lol so I've had to take the box out and put a new clutch and fork in. To answer your question: I found if you pump the clutch trying to get a pedal like bleeding brakes doesn't work. The way I did it was foot to the floor once open the bleed nipple tighten the nipple let the pedal up I repeated this about three to four times and got a decent pedal.
  2. Thanks for the advice fellas, I changed the master cylinder and the jobs a good un.... sorted. I had the same problem on a series 3 years ago but it leaked, it threw me this time because there was no loss of fluid.
  3. I have lost the clutch a few times on my Discovery TD5 2002, after a 25 mile journey the clutch wasn't working properly, the gears wouldn't select unless the clutch was pumped a few times after a while doing this it went back to somewhere near normal. Its losing no fluid and I cant see any leaks on the system I bled the clutch a few days ago in case of any air in the system which made it no better. Anybody had the same problem or have any idea what the problem may be?
  4. Anybody tried one of these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-EXTRA-HEAVY-DUTY-500amp-WINCH-SOLENOID-THE-BEST-UPGRADE-AVAILABLE-/281027244563?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item416e877213
  5. Thanks mickeyw, it is quite an old winch.
  6. Ok thanks soon as i get time i will take bridge off and have a look then I can go from there
  7. LandyManLuke, Its a warn XD9000i All I did was connect the positive and negative to the battery, the vehicle I took it off the red was to the starter motor and the black to the chassis. The land rover I took it off was a p reg 300tdi 90 the discovery I have put it on is a m reg 300tdi. This is exactly the same.
  8. Ive just checked the winch again as its not raining now! Once the winch has been started it just keeps going until its stopped by disconnecting it from the battery. So seems like the the solenoid is stuck? Just found this after a quick google.... http://www.wandering.../warnwinch.html So Iam thinking take the cover off the top of the winch and replace solenoid with an albright one? Anyone with advice or tips appreciated.
  9. Am I reading this right, if I fit an albright solenoid it will bypass the one fitted in the winch even if its broke?
  10. Cheers for the input lads, as you have probably guessed I know absolutly nothing about them
  11. Ive just fitted a winch to my disco and wired it the way it was on the motor I got it off, straight to the battery. It was on a land rover I bought and I kept it when I sold the vehicle. I previously used it on that land rover with no problems. Only thing I have done different is put a bit of copper slip on the bit where the control wire fits to the winch because the contacts were a bit grubby and it wouldnt work. 1st time I used it, after a minutes pulling it wouldnt click off! I had to pop the bonnet and disconect it to stop it. Two questions. Is the winch fecked or could it be the copper slip? Whats the proper way to wire them up?
  12. Patched as do the inner wings, I want it threw one more mot then Iam planning on looking for another.
  13. While changing rear shocks and springs on my disco I noticed one of the ball joints had popped out on the anti roll bar, as it has to be loosened anyway and I didnt have the ball joint to replace I just took the bar off all together. Havnt noticed a difference yet but I havnt been far, so cannot make a decision as to liking it off or on. Has anyone else took them off and left them off? What are the pro's and cons of having them on and off?
  14. Yer mate that would be good, the sills and the inner wing need patching there not to far gone still repairable.
  15. Thanks for the advice guys Think Iam gona avoid the britpart one
  16. so there not good then, which ones are the best to buy?
  17. After a bit of patching up done on my disco, anyone willing or know of anyone in the durham north east area who doesnt charge telephone numbers?
  18. Does anyone know if the britpart winch bumper DA5621 will take a warn XD9000i winch?
  19. Winching with a highlift as already said is extremly slow and hard work but it is also very effective. Much better than scratching your head and panicking if there is no other option! Got me out of trouble more than once.
  20. Could anyone give me the correct tyre pressure for 205/80 16 insa turbo special track on a discovery 300tdi for genral everyday road use? The tyre fitter who fitted them said 32 front and back but steering feels a touch light to me with this pressure in.
  21. Has anyone used puncture seal, is it any good what its pro's and con's etc?
  22. Put a new thermostat in, job sorted Thanks for the replys.
  23. Question for those who are familiar with discovery 300 tdi. When Iam just ticking over around the doors the heaters on my discovery are hardly working even after they have had plenty time to heat up the heater gauge barely moves and there blowing out coldish air, soon as it gets on a motorway for a few mile the gauge goes up to half and the heaters are red hot this being my 1st discovery Iam not sure if this is the norm? Iam thinking if this is not the norm the thermostat could be stuck open?
  24. The customs guy told me the fine is minimum £500 no maximum, the fine depends on how long the vehicle has been running on it and if they can prove how long. Ive been dipped quite a few times and they only chemicly tested it when they could visuly see the red, if they couldnt see red I was sent on my way. Iam not saying they will do that every time but have done on the occasions I was tested. Drain the tanks change the filter and keep your diesel receipts the milage will be on the mot certificate which should near enough corispond with when you re tax, no big drama IMO.
  25. Since this topic was posted I have been stopped twice by the police in a discovery owned by a friend, the vehicle had no insurance but Iam insured to drive any vehicle on my insurance. Both times I gave my details and the details of the land rover I am insured for the police were fine when it came back that I was insured to drive any vehicle. Both times the police said straight away "this vehicle has no insurance"
