2. New all-electric Land Rover Defender on the way with 300-mile range: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/land-rover/defender/359382/new-all-electric-land-rover-defender-way-300-mile-range "... The latest version of the popular 4x4 was only introduced in 2020, yet it’s likely that we’ll see fully electric versions of the 90, 110 and 130 arriving as part of a refreshed Defender line-up in 2025, with cars reaching customers in 2026. The move is likely to mean a switch in platform tech, from the current D7 Premium Lightweight Architecture to Land Rover’s advanced new MLA Flex platform. MLA can support fully electric powertrains as well as internal combustion engines, and already underpins the firm’s new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models, with all-electric versions of those cars due from 2024. The switch in platform will come at a time when the Defender is due a mid-life refresh, but don’t expect huge alterations to the car’s look, despite the change in architecture. As with the Discovery Sport when it switched platforms to Land Rover’s Premium Transverse Architecture in 2019 (as part of a mid-life update) to allow for greater electrification, the look and dimensions of the Defender are expected to remain the same. There may be some changes to the infotainment system inside, with a slightly larger screen, but the cabin design has been so well received by customers that it’s not expected to be altered too much. An increase in the use of sustainable materials is likely, though, as Land Rover looks to boost its credentials in this area. The firm’s engineers are bullish about the prospect of its iconic 4x4 going electric and the benefits this will bring to its off-road performance. Greater control of the electric power delivery through software management is possible, along with advanced torque vectoring. Both will further boost the Defender’s serious off-roading ability, while a completely flat underside will deliver greater ground clearance, too. Technical details of the Defender EV’s sister vehicle, the all-electric Range Rover due in 2024, have yet to be revealed, but Land Rover insiders suggest a battery of around 100kWh will fit easily within the MLA platform, and the aim will be for at least 300 miles of all-electric running. We’re yet to see how Land Rover differentiates the look of its all-electric models from internal combustion-engined cars, but with less cooling needed, we’d expect the intakes on the ICE model to be blanked over for the electric version – as previewed by our exclusive Defender EV image. ..."
3. Last Sunday I took my mate off-roading in my RRS, his second time ever. We had loads of fun 👍 Some photos & a video of the day:

5. In May we did a family trip to Kenya, here are some highlights Angama Mara
6. That ND was probably doing around 120-130kmh, which is what I often drive at on our highways. But I have resigned myself to not surviving any sort of collision in my Puma 🤔
7. We don't even need to speculate about the occupants had this been in a "real" Defender...
8. Well, I drive like a granny most of the time, so no issues there 😂
9. I was bored last week, so I ordered the VAP remap + supercharger pulley: Range Rover 5.0 AJ133 Supercharged ECU Tuning, Range Rover Full Size, Range Rover Sport & SVR – Velocity Automotive Performance VAP's claimed figures, the one I'm getting is in bold: Stock: 495 HP , 510 HP , 550 HP , 575 HP -> = 605 HP (with tune) Stock: 495 HP , 510 HP , 550 HP , 575 HP -> = 620 HP (with upper pulley, and tune) Stock: 495 HP , 510 HP , 550 HP , 575 HP -> = 645 HP (with upper and lower pulleys, and tune) After a few communications issues and some back & forth, I received the remap unit last Thursday & the pulley a few days later. I uploaded the remap to the car as soon as I got it and went for a 40km drive. First impression was disappointing: it didn't really change much in the car, felt just the same as the OEM map. Then on the way back home I took a detour via a deserted road just outside of town, where I, let's say, drove enthusiastically... Holy !!! Once you give it beans, it really comes alive, especially beyond 300rpm, where it feels like there's a second engine taking over, with a massive growl. I did a couple of runs, and the responsiveness and the smooth power delivery is quite addictive. Overall, I would say this remap won't be noticeabled in 90% of normal driving, and only when you push it does it show itself. This morning I spent a couple of hours at my mechanic and we installed the new pulley, which is 3mm smaller than the OEM one. The installation of the pulley was pretty straightforward, although the OEM one took a bit of convincing to come off: And then we went for a test drive... The power delivery is simply amazing - smooth and linear-like, I chickened out at 2x the speed limit, and there was plenty of power still to come. It's not a brutal power delivery like the OEM map, it's much smoother, and lulls you into a false sense of security. Until you look at the speedo, that is, and réalisé how fast you're going. Still doubtful that the gains justify the price, but hey, we only live once, right 😁 I might still get their crank pulley as well, which is 11.8% bigger than the OEM one, and adds 3.5psi of boost.
10. yeah, from what I've read, that stuff doesn't really work
11. they blast ground walnut shells into the ports, with a vaccum running on the other side to scoop up all the debris - at least that's how I understand it
12. At 12 years old, Orxy got a well-deserved carbon clean - look at how much gunk had accumulated there 😳 Superb job by Carel and his team at Racing Technik - https://www.racingtechnik.com/! 😃 That workshop is so clean, it would make Ron Dennis blush Before photos of the intake ports: After:
13. Hi all, This happened twice in two days, after starting the car the first time in the day (ambient +-34C). Video: It doesn't happen after driving around and then starting the car again. I went past my mech yesterday, and he tightened the bolts on the brake booster. They were not loose, but there was some give in them. Funnily enough, I saw the replies to my question on another two forums, and got similar feedback. Someone posted this TSB, which affects the booster, it may be helpful to others: https://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/23569/SB-10106336-9340.pdf "Reference: SSM72903 Models: Range Rover/ L405 Range Rover Sport/ L494 Title: Air Leak Noise When Brake Pedal Is Pressed Category: Chassis Last modified: 29-Jul-2016 00:00:00 Symptom: 301000 Service Brake System Attachments: D7u Booster Fixings Secure Sequence.pdf (D7u Booster Fixings Secure Sequence.pdf) Content Issue: Air-leak noise when brake pedal is pressed. Cause: Low or high clamp load on brake servo fixings. Action: If an air-leak noise is exhibited during brake pedal depression, then slacken the 4 fixings off and re-torque to 24Nm. Ensure when torquing you follow the pattern detailed in the attachment. Re-apply the torque (following the attached pattern) a second time 30 minutes later to ensure the fixings have not relaxed. If the noise is still present then please progress with replacement of the component."
14. I've been running Truck-Lite (gen1) since 2013/4, no issues whatsoever, highly recommend them.
15. So two years ago I misjudged a small dune at Atlantis Dunes and broke the lower part of the front bumper: I just left it as is because Land Rover wanted R20k to replace the whole front bumper. According to them, the lower part doesn't come separately. Anyway, I had plenty of time during the recent lockdown to trawl scrapyard/parts shops, and finally located the part needed to replace the broken one. I just needed to spend some time with my trusted indie, which happened this morning, since most of his clients are away on holiday. Man, what a mission - LR 'engineers' should be drawn, quartered, and hanged for some of the **** they design. While the bumper was off, we cleaned the radiators a bit, removed some mummified birds, and straightened the bumper mount that had been bent in the above-mentioned incident. Five hours later, including an engine oil change, plenty of broken plastic clips, and lots of swearing 😂
16. Yes, it does send small children, dogs, and horses running for the hills when I start it 😂

22. Hi, unfortunately I am not familiar at all with that area. The only nice spots that I've passed around the area are around the Magoebaskloof, but that is a detour from your route I think, it's about an hour East of Polokwane, on your way to Tzaneen. Very scenic drive, lots of farms and lodges, and plenty of fishing/hiking, etc.
