  1. May be a stupid question but is there a measurement so you can tell if your vehicle is fitted with standard wheel arch’s or plus 2’s for example? I need to replace one on my defender but want to make sure they are just standard ones cheers
  2. Just ordered a new one from Dingocroft for a couple of quid, didn't realise they were different sizes. I guess I'll see if it fits when it turns up. Where else are they on the engine? I'll go round and have a check. When I put water in it though that's the only point I saw leaking.
  3. Thanks for that. Quite relieved to hear that's what it is as I was worried about a cracked block
  4. Hi everyone hope you can help me with this. From what I can work out the cooling system froze up in the cold weather we've had. It did have anti freeze in it but obviously not enough or something. Now water pours out as of a hole above the drain point for the cooling system as fast as I can pour it in, hopefully the pictures will make it a bit clearer. If anyone can let me know what this could be and how bad it possibly is, I'm worried that it's pretty bad at the minute and then engines coming out. thanks
  5. Maybe that would be easier. I'm just worried about getting a good watertight seal between the plate and the snorkel. This is the eBay item number if that works instead 172903822830 it looks like the right bit but i can't say for sure. I think realistically to have any chance of fitting anything on that passenger side wing I'm going to have to take the heater box out just to get to it. Or admit defeat and buy a 300tdi snorkel and run it across
  6. Also if anyone has time to look at this and let me know if this is what I need to connect onto my snorkel I would really appreciate it as I'm not sure https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/172903822830
  7. Right here are pictures as promised. There are plenty of discovery airboxes for sale online but whether I could fit one in I don't know. Also painting it is somewhere on my long list of jobs before anyone else says it. So as you'll see the snorkel enters on the passsenger side, where there is no inner wing connection so I need to buy/fabricate one somehow and I need to squeeze an airbox in and connect each side.
  8. It ran perfectly for a couple of hundred miles and then started overheating as soon as I got it off the drive. i drained and flushed with a radiator cleaner, replaced the stat and the water pump. Still continuously overheating. Pipes going to the rad and the rad never got hot but the heater pipes were red hot. I took the new stat out and ran it it with no stat and while it's still running hotter than before it's not overheating anymore so it must have been a faulty stat as heat is now getting through the radiator. Not sure what else could be causing it to run hot
  9. No that's my mistake. It's a passenger side one. No idea why I wrote drivers side. Its a very similar snorkel to the one scotts90 just put up. Looking at where the space is I'm wishing I had bought the 300tdi snorkel which is on the drivers side and then run everything over. would the airbox you have for sale fit on the passenger side of the engine?
  10. I'll take some pictures first thing in the morning to show what I'm working with. It's a drivers side snorkel that enters through the old intake grill on the wing. I don't have an inner wing connector so I'll have to find one or fabricate one as suggested. I don't currently have an air box and space is quite tight as the pictures will show you. I currently just have a pipe coming off the turbo with a conical air filter attached to that. I think a proper job would be to fit an airbox and an inner wing adaptor like some others have managed to do on this site but as it's a bit of an old bitsa truck I was looking at other ways. Land Rover airboxes are quite expensive, are they a special design or is it just a case of having an airtight box with a filter in it with an inlet and outlet hose? Hopefully pictures tomorrow will help clear things up thanks for the help
  11. Hey, need some help with this Bought a 200tdi snorkel on eBay, it came without any adaptor to go inside the engine bay. It's a 200tdi disco engine in an old defender and fitting an air box seems more hassle then I want so planning on just running a pipe direct from the snorkel to the turbo and fitting an air filter up the top of my snorkel but have no real idea how to get a pipe to run and seal between my snorkel which is just bolted to the outside over the top of the old air intake grill. any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm a bit stumped
  12. Thanks a lot, bit far for me but appreciate the offer. Will persevere with trying to clear it if its an airlock, if no luck I think it will be a new pump. Don't suppose theres any tell tale signs of it being the pump without stripping it out?
  13. Yeah that was my first thought, but if it is an airlock I haven't been able to clear it. Its actually belting hot air through the blowers (hotter than its ever been before) Also worth mentioning that I tested the stat in a saucepan and it was opening and closing
  14. Hi all, Need some help again Little while ago a hose split coming out of my heating matrix, chucking coolant everywhere. Replaced the hose, flushed the radiator and cooling system and refilled. Ran well for a couple hundred miles but now is overheating everytime I run it. Hoses out of the radiator stay cool but pipes out of the heating matrix are red hot. Wondering if when the hose split the water pump ran dry and knackered itself. Any help greatly appreciated before I start changing parts Thanks
  15. Must have been airlock like Peaklander said, bit of a drive and gauge started behaving normally again thanks
