  1. Thanks for that I will upgrade the speed as soon as I find a td5 one now.
  2. Looked into that, however, the td5 speedo relies on the ECU and my 110 is mechanical.
  3. I have used thinwall flex wire, and gave lots of slack so there should be no chaffing, I may use elastic in the stering column to retrack the wire if need be, time will tell on that one! here is a pic I took of the modification, the brackets are a bit crude, but I had nothing else at the time, goint to replace them with some better ones in stainless at a later date. The centre steel boss is sweated into the wheel and is a very tight fit it will not come out without first heating the alloy around it and tapping or pressing it out. Here are some pics I have just took showing the illuminated switches.
  4. no I haven't used the coupler, it is a bit big for the steering column, I secured the wheel to a wood plank and used a 44mm hole saw to cut an hole in the centre. I took an old type A steering wheel and carefully cut the centre out with a grinder.(excuse the arrows it was the only pic I could find) I will take a pic of the adapted centre when I take the airbag out to connect the wiring up. The disco 3 wheel pictured here is for sale if anyone wants one?
  5. I actually have another disco 3 steering wheel that I adapted first, it has the centre spline section removed to 44mm diameter where I fitted a centre 36 spline from an old type A wheel, which has a perfectly round and slightly bigger than 44mm centre which fits tightly and easily when the aluminium centre section of the disco 3 wheel is heated, then drill and tap a couple of holes and attach a couple of flat brackets to be safe! or a 48 spline centre could be removed from a defender wheel and fitted? anyway I will post up some pics of the wheel to show how I did the conversion, it has no airbag or switches, just the plastic cowl.
  6. not yet I will post some up and give an account over the next day or so
  7. The airbag is the complete middle section with the badge on, it wont activate though without being wired up. the switches have there own loom, and the multiplugs are just tooked away underneath, the wiring looks fairly simple, i'm going wire up the horn buttons, led spotlamps momentary flash (voice control paddle), not sure yet what I am going to do with the two right hand side momentary paddles, and the five surface switches, Any ideas gratefully welcome
  8. Hi just fitted a disco 3 steering wheel to my 110, I re engineered the centre boss, it was pretty simple really and took less than an hour! going to wire the illumination for the switches up and use the voice control paddle for spot lamp flash, not sure what uses i will have for the remainder of the switches. Was going to fit an heated one but the price for them was ridiculous, besides I have an Eberspacher on remote control so can heat the vehicle before I get in.
  9. Hi I have a TIM oil pressure gauge and my pressure at idle is around zero and when running down the motorway at 60-70 mph it is 20 psi? also I have notice a constant ticking that doesn't seem to go faster with the engine revs, I can hear it faintly inside the vehicle?
  10. Beware of this thief caught on CCTV posing as a legitimate potential buyer! he had obviously done this before by the clever ways he carried out the theft, walking to the address from around the corner with a plausable story that his wife had dropped him off and gone to get food! and he never touched anything, ie doorbell etc he called when he was approaching the house from a payg phone, note also he seemed to be concealing his left hand?
  11. My friend had advertised his 90 td5 on Ebay and someone contacted him for a viewing, they came to his home very chatty and seemed pleasant, during a test drive they pulled over to the side of a dark country lane and quite politely suggested that maybe my friend should drive back now as he knows the area better and he had experienced what he wanted during the test drive, he then applied the hand break and unclipped his seatbelt as if to exit the vehicle! my friend got out of the passenger door and walked around the rear of the 90 to enter the drivers seat when the 90 took off down the lane leaving him standing there puzzled for a moment of what was going on! The guy walked up the street to house wearing a jumper and jeans and called him from his front garden on his mobile,(number withheld) and told a story of his wife had just dropped him off and had gone to the local chip shop! He claimed to have come up from Nottingham that day! These people are obviously pro's at what they do, he was careful not to enter the house or ring the bell or knock on the door, as to leave no fingerprints (imho) he will have been part of an organised setup and no doubt? would have had a rendevour set up nearby for either placing the stolen landy into the back of a truck (as to avoid gps trackers and anpr camera's) or a set of number plates to hide the real plates as to not show up on police anpr checks? these people are a plague to honest enthusiasts driven by greed and no empathy at all. the police suspect that it may well be stripped down and sold in parts, this is also disturbing as we as enthusiasts trawl the internet and rumage around shows etc looking for used bargains, when we could be in fact buying parts from stolen land rovers and if our landy got stolen then these parts etc will be sold again! So anyway in case any of you don't know already, beware if you are selling a landy on Ebay etc! the potential buyer may be more than they seem! My friend is offering a £1500 reward to information leading to the recovery of his 90. there is a link here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-90 ... 236wt_1141
  12. I have not long had a heated windscreen fitted and I wired it up myself, this is how I did it: I used a 70amp relay a carling switch and 30a thick cable from a maxi fuse in an auxillary fuse box under the bonnet, this box takes its power from a second battery on a split charge system! the carling switch activates the relay which sends the current through on end of the screen and the other end is also 30a cable to a good earth point! although on testing the screen the earth wire got warm! not enough to cause alarm but I may upgrade the wiring to an heavier gauge. I do not have a rear heated window anymore as it is sealed off for security so I am trying to use the dash light for the rear heated window for the windscreen instead but the current draw is too much for the small wiring of the lamp, and although it works the screen will not heat up properly as the flow is restricted by the lamp in the chain! any ideas anyone?
  13. Not wanting to hi-jack the thread or anything, but has anyone come across a legend for the carling switch for 'Kenlowe' ?
  14. I have just fitted an Erberspacher and was wondering if it could be used as a pickup?
  15. I have a question regarding the rear tank on a 110! there is a spare pipe that is capped off on the top edge of the tank, I know this is to link in with an aux tank but is it just a tube at the top? or can it be used as a pickup? ie it has a tube running to the bottom of the tank.
  16. I spoke to them about a fortnight ago on the phone, when I called their usual number I got a message that the number had changed to: 0844 879 4440 their web address is: http://www.mobilestoragesystems.fsnet.co.uk/ They had a stand at Driffield although the couple that own it wasn't there it was some different people who I had never seen before, so it all makes sense now! maybe they have sold out? I have some of their products including the cubby box which is absolutely superb, the build quality is second to none with attention to detail throughout, They are expensive but you really do get what you pay for.
  17. I went for the day, it was my first time to Driffield and I thought it was great, I knew it was a smaller show compared to billing etc but to me it felt better laid out and I actually thought it was better than billing!
  18. The box was off a disco 300 tdi around 1995 I think, it has never been off tarmac, I fitted it about 7 month ago and it has been used on some challenging lanes since then! ie: Chapel Gate, Derbyshire, all over the lake district and yorkshire dales and south wales! I run 33/12.50/15 tyres on 10" rims too!
  19. Hi all My steering went with no warning at all, fortunately I was on doing about 20mph. At first I thought I had a flat tyre because I was turning a corner and the steering did not respond properly and the vehicle drifted, on closer inspection I realised that the steering box had failed and it wasn't until I removed it that I discovered the real sobering potentially fatal failure! The actual main shaft that drives the drop arm had completely sheered! This is what I was greeted with when I looked underneath and this is what I found when I removed the box and the remaining part of the shaft fell out
  20. Good pics & tutorial Stephen, especially the ECU relocation, this will no doubt be useful to others wishing to do the same
  21. The Westmorland Gazette is running a poll on access to 4x4's in the Parks. They are apparently quite pro-4x4 as well, so it seems like it's only right to vote yest to 4x4 access to the Parks http://www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk/ It's under the firework picture.
  22. All the kbx is stuff is absolutely superb, it is made of a good thick ABS plastic and painted very well. KBX is run by two long standing Land Rover enthusiasts, and their customer service is second to none, It took a lot of deciding for me to part with all that cash for plastic parts but you realy do get what you pay for! My experience with NAS lamps is that I had Wipac ones which where of very poor quality and filled with water when it rained etc, if you want nas lamps go for the perei ones that are fitted NAS defenders they are more expensive than wipac but same again, You get what you pay for......
  23. I have had a sankey for a few years now and really like them a lot, but I have always been wanting to take it off tarmac so finally I did and the results where astonishing! these trailers really do go anywhere the land rover will effortlessly, They are very well balanced and it feels like you have no trailer attached, although they must be towed using a rotatable NATO hitch and not the rigid one found on the back of newer sankeys!
  24. I have the led lamps on the rear of my 110 and did have the nas ones on the front, for the indicator lamp I used a white sidelamp nas unit and simply replaced the bulb with an amber one!, however since the pic of the front end was subbmitted on this forum I have re-modelled the front end and now use standard land rover lamps on the front again indicator with white lens and amber bulb, this was the nas ones where too big for my KBX headlamp surrounds!
  25. I agree, it looks a very tidy defender , in my opinion I would change the front indicator lamps for clear lenses and amber bulbs
