  1. Thanks for your answer L90-v8. the head is open now. Do I have to refit all together and clean the system the way you suggest? Wouldn't be better to try and clean now? And which are the water channels and which the oil ones in the engine block?
  2. yes, getting them out to fit new seals as you said. So I won't go for new plugs, and thank you very much for the info about the slide hammer not being the ultimate solution and the allen key being a good alternative.
  3. Hi, I have oil and water mixed up in engine due to a oil cooler fault. I now have all the circuit dirty with a dense black stuff as you can see in the pic. Ideas on how to clean the engine inside circuits? Thanks, Roberto
  4. new injector sealings... I need the special tool to take injectors apart? Then yes, I will go check injector's cleaning literature, promise!
  5. fantastic explanation! So, I can wait for the ordered timing pins to arrive, in the meanwhile work on the cylinders and head, put the pins in the right positions with sprocket mark and chain aligned and it should be ok. A double check would be that of, once all tighten as should, rotate the engine 26 times manually to make sure no valve is being caught by a piston at any time, correct? And thanks again Neil Roberto
  6. Hi Neil, thanks very much for this answer. Let's see if I got things right. I aligned timing mark and chain links before taking the head off. A bolt was insert in the timing tool hole as visible in this photo http://robertostephenson.com/TD5_problems/content/20170909_084650_large.html No timing tool was insert through the crankshaft as I don't have the tool and assuming that the engine will not rotate until I will decide to do so. So, till here I should be fine. Now I need to rotate the engine to clean cylinders. With someone holding up the camshaft sprocket, I rotate the engine counting the revolutions (should be 26) and watching for the chain links and mark on sprocket to line up again. At alignment I should be ok and able to refit the head, right? Thank you! Roberto
  7. Yes, of course, I read about it, but to get the tools to Haiti takes time, so in the meanwhile I have a bolt as camshaft blocker and nothing in the crankshaft hoping it wont move until I figure out exactly how to rotate it and get it back where it is now. In fact, as many even in other forums don't get, is that I am aware that there is a strict connection between cam and crank and I need to move them separately for cleaning purposes and thenget the to the sync position once again. 3- blanked off = ? do I close them ? how? what are those for, do you know? The Haynes defenderdiesel and TD5 is in the list. I really thank you very much for the answers. I will study the other member's answer on how to sync cam and crank... didn't quite get it at first glance.
  8. HI, I need to clean cylinders, so I need to rotate the engine from the sync mark. How does the realignment work? Couldn't find on manual. Thanks
  9. I had to take the head off to check the gasket. In the process I have some doubts. I hope you guys can help. if you want to see pics, here are some: http://robertostephenson.com/TD5_problems/ Thanks. 1- with head off, how do I rotate the engine (to clean cylinders) and get it back exactly to where it is now to be able to refit head with camshaft in the same position? 2- and how do I rotate camshaft to get back to the same position? 3- When taking EGR off, what to do of the blue pipe lines? see photo http://robertostephenson.com/TD5_pro...617_large.html 4- And the EGR cooler water hoses, can they be connect together once the cooler off? 5- The exhaust manifold had 2 gaskets fitted. Should I just put one new one? Check photo at link and following. There is much corrosion on the manifold wall, would this be ok anyway? http://robertostephenson.com/TD5_pro...154_large.html 6- One of the manifold studs unscrewed from the block. How do I fix it back in? http://robertostephenson.com/TD5_pro...121_large.html 7- Any advice on how to clean cylinders and head from rust and deposits? check photo at link and following: http://robertostephenson.com/TD5_pro...828_large.html Thank you all!
