Alternator stripping belts
Stellaghost replied to jennydefender90's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Yep that's been very hot, hard to see the inside of the alternator pulley, but it looks clean when photo expanded, looks like water pump is failing probably not moving freely as Mike said, probably why rubber has filled pulley up as it will be the point of highest friction therefore the hottest point Regards Stephen -

Poor hill climbing performance, 300Tdi Disco (manual)
Stellaghost replied to SPendrey's topic in Discovery Forum
Do a compression check, the engine may have lost compression over time so that your not noticing it for everyday driving, but the hills on your recent journey have highlighted an issue Regards Stephen -
Alternator stripping belts
Stellaghost replied to jennydefender90's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Welcome to the forum As a starter you need to repair the stripped bolt, because that will not tighten it may be allowing the alternator to flex, thus putting the alternator out of alignment and causing strain on the belt. To repair the stripped thread, drill through oversize and put a nut and bolt in if possible Keep us posted please Regards Stephen -

Sid had a modest 20yrd run, moved from previous position of the last several months, steering seems a bit heavy but I suspect box is not great, I have another one I can try No massive oil leaks, knocks or bangs, yes I know its early days but I'm very happy Now he is moving its just the right motivation to crack on and get finished regards Stephen -

Not managed a lot of late but filled diffs and drop boxes with oil I put axle stands under and let car tick over in gear to allow oil to coat inside without being under load, just jamming the spinning wheel to transfer power to get the opposite drop box lubed up 20230426_190239.mp4 I'm also pleased to report no nasty knocks and bangs Regards Stephen -
