  4. I have this if it's any good to butcher to utilise the brushes Brush dimensions barring length are 19mm x 8.7mm I can bang it in the post if you think you can use it Regards Stephen
  5. Pictures would help I have a knackered warn motor off a 8274 one of the brushes may do the job will need to look and measure up. On the link above you can see the one I repaired it was also very crusty regards Stephen
  6. A welding rod will always reach tight areas better than a mig torch, however there is a greater degree of skill required to stick weld effectively, overhead and vertical welding is way more difficult than using a mig for the same I would suggest plenty of practice before going for it, also you can buy multi-positional rods that will allow you to weld downwards in the vertical plane. Arc power also needs to be considered as it is easier to blow holes in thin steel with stick welding as appose to mig That said I also turn to stick welding for very tight areas, the ability to bend the rod in a configuration to make access easier can be hard to beat sometimes Hope this helps regards Stephen
  7. 1/8" NPT taps ordered Regards Stephen
  8. What's the thread in the bung, if I have the right taps I could easily make a couple for you guys Regards Stephen
  9. I run a 3 phase Alfred Herbert drill off a static inverter, it occasionally chatters when I occasionally overload it............. But have to say it works great Regards Stephen
  10. I've made one before out of pipe, flat plate with the curve hammer formed, also shaped some steel to form the raised section for the ring gear, made mine out of 6mm plate, basically fit and forget...lol Regards Stephen
  11. Is it running OK, timing could be slightly out giving /causing some unburnt fuel Regards Stephen
  12. Looks like a good boring bar, they can be quite expensive to buy new Looking forward to seeing your future turning projects Regards Stephen
  13. I have the American Pro ones, been good up to now, feels like decent kit Unfortunately I got mine second hand so cannot tell you full price regards Stephen
  14. Nice lathe It should have adjustment bolts on each corner, you need to use them to ensure your lathe bed is absolutely true in both planes to guarantee machine and work accuracy Regards Stephen
  15. But surprising that a chain is being used for this, in my experience a chain is to be used for lifting only, chains do not like any shock loading, this is exactly what happens when tyres find grip and then slip again, the winch takes up the slack sometimes rapidly and shocks the chain/rope back into tension Certainly in heavy industry we would never use a chain for pulling Regards Stephen
  16. Changing cutting tools is easy once you know your shim set up, I'm with @De Ranged on what he is saying about spending money on tooling, there is always something you need, for instance I did not have tooling for cutting the circlip groove on the recent fairlead build, so 6 years on from getting my lathe I'm still needing tooling for specific tasks Regards Stephen
  17. Some very nice work gone into building that... Regards Stephen
  18. It's called a vacuum for a reason @Ed Poore........lol Regards Stephen
  19. Forgot to add, make sure you get one with plenty of accessories etc because it can be time consuming and expensive when tracking them down. They all pretty much come with a 3 jaw chuck but a 4 jaw is essential if you want greater accuracy, face plate, travelling steadies, tool posts, boring bars, DTI etc can all add significant costs regards Stephen
  20. My lathe is a Harrison 12" gap bed lathe obviously you're aware of what it can do as pictures of my lathe in action have appeared often enough, think it's a 42" bed, a wee tad longer would be nice. The chuck fastening system on mine is L00, not easy to find second hand. It's also single phase which is good All in all well worth the £400 I paid for it, although I have spent probably the same again on tooling etc I would personally hang out for an older model, but probably because I'm an older model...... Regards Stephen
  21. Sthil saw...........lol Sorry could'nt resist I guess you will need to look at aftermarket seats or go to an Auto breakers and see if there is anything suitably lower that could be adapted to fit Otherwise, cabriolet project would be nice to read about regards Stephen
  22. Skip divers, interesting term... Up here we are called skip rats........ A word of caution though...... Up here I am top rat.....everybody checks to make sure I'm not inside when chucking scrap into said skips........has the potential to be very painful......lol Regards Stephen
  23. Unfortunately I don't do Facebook and no intentions of joining, however I can see market place has it's used Nice spot..I really need light truck tyres due to Sid not being the massively heavy holocaust roach squasher we all thought he was going to be.......... Regards Stephen
