  1. Yes, large ring, but the cable is long enough to reach to the battery, would need to be cut and trimmed for starter. Auto electrician wants to connect it to alternator as we’ve already removed the starter twice and those 3 bolts really suck!! LOL Haynes diagram shows battery, so will do it there I think... thanks again... Any help on the relay needed as questioned above would be appreciated, need to order two ASAP...
  2. Great!! Thanks heaps But where is the large brown wire supposed to be connected to? Alternator, starter, battery etc please. It’s a long wire...
  3. Yes, that is it. Has the Slate/Red wires. Will leave a relay out of it and leave the wires blanked off if that’s a safe sensible option? Not sure my dash light panel has a space for it either....
  4. Thanks. My rear window is filled in with a thick sheet of aluminium, and the loom not plugged in. So good to not have it if possible. Just leave the relay out? Brake fail is perhaps Slate/Red? (Grey/Red)?
  5. Thanks. Can anybody tell me what relay is required for the glow plug timer please. Technical details appreciated as I’m at a auto electrician rather than a Landy place... Also, on the glow plug timer relay is a long thick brown cable. Does this go to the alternator or starter? Assume the thick yellow cable goes to the glow plugs?
  6. Ok, the complete dash is out and we are comparing the existing with the new dash loom. Voltage sensitive prc4427 switch is for heated windscreen or rear window demister, so assume I don’t need any more? We seem to be lacking 1 or 2 relays. Is there a good description of each with relevant wire colours anywhere please? This is what we have by the fuse box.
  7. Did you manage to look at these please mate?
  8. Awesome, thought that must be the case. Will strip out the dash and headlights on Tuesday so it will become easier to see it all. We assume this plug near the horn on the front passenger side is for an alarm? It traces back to one of the fuse box relays... Brown/Green and Brown wires.
  9. Ok, great, I don’t need them, more wires to seal off and not worry about How do the side indicators connect then?
  10. Awesome thanks! My old wiring has obviously been changed and that relay stuck behind the dash I think. The only other engine bay wires we are stuck on are Purple/Blue. Two on the passenger side, one on the drivers on the wires going to the headlights. Side indicators or hazard indicator? Can’t see anything else for the side indicators....?
  11. Ok, rear loom in and working well starter serviced, new alternator being fitted, making good progress... Looking at the new loom (1994-1996) it has this relay part and big thick wires in the engine bay that I don’t currently have, can anybody explain its purpose please ( we are guessing by tracing the wires, and as the loom is heavily taped up it’s hard to see what goes where etc)
  12. New ones are made from plastic it seems... going to use the old one, cheap local one on the reconditioned old one if it turns up tomorrow looking ok...
  13. Thanks, though at about 120 quid with South African tax it’s a bloody expensive piece of plastic!!!
  14. Phoned and mailed them. They are really only interested in providing customer support when you’ve made an order etc, not on what a part number is etc
  15. I’m looking to put in a new 65 amp alternator with my new 1994 200TDI wiring loom, being retro fitted to a 1991 200TDI. LRDirect list 2 Lucas models as STC234G.TR and STC234G.C8. Any idea what the difference is please? https://www.lrdirect.com/STC234-Alternator-A127-65Amp-Lucas-No.-242/?keep_https=yes Do they come with a pulley attached? Doesn’t look like it, if not what extra parts do I need to order please? Shipping to South Africans so keen to get it correct first time :)
  16. On YouTube, look up roamingtheoutback and Britannia restorations. Both have great advice and practical solutions to this... I’m on a really slow African connection so can’t find them exactly for you etc sorry
  17. That would be great, thanks. Monday would be the latest we could order them etc
  18. Having fun doing it, learning a lot... here testing the rear loom before installing it....
  19. Ok, thanks. I highly appreciate your answers Given I have the Wright Off-road matting on there it means all 3 seats out, bit of a drama etc. Maybe just cut the existing wire and solder to the new would work.....?
  20. Oh, ok, we had been thinking it was the hand brake without having looked at it yet. I have a stubby R380, will the access be any easier? Can you do it just from underneath or will I need to take the metal gearbox plate off etc? Update: when you say Difflock warning light, what do you mean please? This is different from the ‘Difflock is Engaged’ light? There are two?
  21. Thanks again. Making progress next question though! On the rear wiring loom where it goes down from the engine bay and starts to run along the chassis (or in it as it used to do) is a Black/Blue wire that sticks out of the taped loom and has a female plug on it. It’s not being used in my current loom, just taped up unused, but then I don’t have a full set of dash lights connected. It’s not in any diagrams or colour charts. Any ideas please?
  22. Great, thanks guys. Can anybody tell me what thread the 200TDI has for the temperature gauge please? And any risk of it breaking off when taking it out? Replacing the thermostat last month the bolts were difficult and one broke off. Assume as it’s brass it should be ok. For the engine oil temperature it just seems to be a semi hopeless clip on situation opposite the fuel injection pump?
  23. I’m rewiring with new looms my 200TDI 110 from 1991 with a 1994 new loom from Autosparks in South Africa. Seems a good opportunity to change to VDO gauges for engine temperature and oil temperature. No problem getting the gauges here, for sensors the trustworthy auto electrical I’m at says there are generic sensors that we will have to adapt to fit. Is there anything sensor wise for the VDO gauges that will fit the 200TDI exactly without having to modify? Or is it easy to do etc?
  24. Thanks! am I correct in reading that for the Slate/Red wires and relay I should just leave them unconnected and the relay holder empty?
  25. Slated/Red comes out at the 3 relays under the fuse box as one wire in one of the relay holders. There are also two wires coloured like this running in the main loom to the dashboard, they come out by the main dashboard indicator panel plastic plug ins as individual wires covered in clear plastic.
