  1. Some great input guys, lots to think about. Building a complete restoration form the ground up is a great thing to do but for me on top of what is a steep learning curve already it's probably a bridge to far this time round. I'm not planning on getting underway for 10 - 12 months and want to spend that time fitting out the vehicle myself and getting to learn all I can about using and fixing it. It kinda felt that the ROW 300tdi was somewhat on the expensive side so nice to hear that confirmed also even in nice condition it's still an older vehicle and may need work like rubbers, as mentioned, to get it as reliable as possible so will pass on that one. I've driven Puma's and TD5's perhaps I need to try a 300tdi for comparison. I suspect I am leaning towards Puma, more civilized, newer, less wear and tear as a starting point for a base vehicle, good to hear some one say not to be scared by electronics. LHD/RHD plenty of pro's and con's both ways on that one so maybe I'll not stress to much either way. I didn't know that about the deposit for the Carnet so that just highlights the need for a lot more research and also maybe planning some routes, although I do like the idea of travelling where the fancy takes me. Anyway thanks again it's been useful, back to the research.
  2. So I am currently looking for a 110 defender to build into a overland vehicle for world travel and my head is going in circles as to which way to go so I was hoping some of the experienced bods here wouldn't mind pitching in with some opinions which I expect to be varied My budget is around £30k for a decent base vehicle and some opinions push me towards a lowish mileage 2.2 puma RHD. There are many opinions though that say that an older defender with a 300tdi engine would be preferable for overland travel, no electrics easier to maintain and repair on the road. I'm currently considering a 2006 ROW 110 with a 300tdi engine, one owner 67000 miles and a full service history, price £33k. I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but it looks brand new in the photo's. So any feedback or insights gratefully received. Is 33k a fair price for a 2006 ROW 110? Should I go newer more comfy 2.2 or would a 300tdi be the best choice? RHD or LHD? and anything else you think is relevant. Cheers!
