  1. What i have is a FRC9460 intermediate gear cluster 19-41-38 teeth FTC1741 HI-gear Thin teeth 34T FTC1084 LOW-gear Thin teeth 40T This is what ive gone with , THIN Dogs hi/lo .... im just hoping ive got the correct pairings
  2. Yep the dog teeth on the hi/lo gears
  3. Maybe someone can help with this one . Which are better the early THICK dog teeth or later THIN dog teeth . although its confusing what is early and later , as appears both can be fitted from 1985 up to 2005 , 2005 is new to me lol . and im not sure how true this is but checking pt numbers i think the THICK DOGS were fitted to V8 models , Not sure which way to go . But i have ordered a new thin dog high gear , as it will speed most of its time in high . But i have this niggle though that thicker is stronger and appear as a rule to be more expensive to buy . and maybe it was a cost cutting exercise , but there is little info available .
  4. Hi when i was striping the LT230 diff , the hi/lo selector sleeve and hub got separated , (dont ask) . I know you are meant to keep them as they come off . Will this matter that much , if eg i was replacing one part , and im told to flip them over so the most wear is in low drive . So will it matter , they seem to only want to fit together in one position . ???????????????????
  5. Sorry that was an essay , but all the google and forum searches end without giving an answer . Ive done mine , This is to help others .
  6. Fitted a later td5 pedal box to my 300tdi , don't think can get the older type . Pedal height is now adjusted using the m/cyl pushrod Now is it the 2 lock nuts or the nyloc nut that you adjust move to get the pedal height . Let's assume its the nyloc on the end of of the rod , furthest away from the cylinder . When you set the pedal height and lock all nuts upto trunnion , can you wiggle freely move the Pushrod or is it firm . I've just done the above and its firm , ( I must explain here I've modified the p/box and put the old style pedal height adjuster bolt half way up the box front . Not confusing with the later pedal stop bolt 17mm at the bottom , ) Even if I back off the nyloc to the end of the rod and the pedal is so high it hits the roof . So I set the height again , and as I have this modification bolt which I can set pedal height independently with (old style) I gave it 1/2 a turn in and its given me wiggle on the pushrod . Now ! , If pedal height is adjusted T d 5 type via the m/cyl pushrod only , Is there no wiggle on the pushrod? , no or should there be ? . Can anyone give me the correct procedure to set it up properly , ie adjust nyloc on the end of the pushrod to set pedal height and then run the lock nuts 2 cylinder side upto the trunnion . Theres no clear instructions anywhere on this hopefully this thread will Help others as everyone refers to the old way i.e. adjust pedal stop set pedal height and adjust rod leavening free play , But they don't make that type anymore if you have to replace your old worn one . So please No adjust lock nuts as which ??? Lock nuts , Nyloc nut or the other 2 , simple ommision can cause issues for anyone trying to adjust it . Easy When you know , but assume this is an idiot's guide i.e. for me . is there any way to check pushrod free play ? Or is it simple set pedal heiht and forget , yet some say they have had to raise the pedal height to get rid of clutch slip on this later type . Enough off me .
  7. Hi i know it was a while ago that you modified your clutch pedal box , extra adjuster for the pedal height  .

Im in that place having just got a replacement and its the later type , was the mod worth it or time again would you bother ? ,

The depth of one once riveted  put me off using one , so i did tack a nut on , wasn't to bad actually for me . Pedal now great .

but would still like to know how you get a decent pedal Travel using just the rod lock nuts to adjust the height . Tried it and got the height ok , but the pedal was half way to the floor before any resistance .

Anyway glad you gave me the idea , thanks gerry

  8. Plan B then thanks . Have found a T-max connector and have a clip on valve connector and pipe obviously . But now ive made it up im wondering why they put the silly screw on end to connect to the tyre valve ? , maybe to slowly increase the pressure , so if i just connect will it damage the pump . Must be a reason why they fitted that type of end . cost cheaper ???
  9. Old thread revival , But does anyone know the tyre valve thread size , Because you could screw a tail into the silly t-MAX screw-on valve and then a length of pipe onto that with a PCL valve fitting on the end . I still would like to make an adapter for the push connect fittings if it was ever worked out .
  10. Hi apologies for late response and thanks i didn't expect a reply . Yes i removed the m/cyl and servo as i had purchased new ones . And thought i may as well fit them . Luckily i did as the servo although still had vacuum when i removed the pipe (Doh) i forget to deplete the vacuum , Had fluid in it and the m/cyl was wet on the end . Both replaced and now a rock solid pedal at long last . So it must of been weeping for a while . Is it ok to use the servo if needed , Can it be cleaned out and if so what with . Im sure it would get someone out of a pickle if it can be used .
  11. Old thread revival , but was this ever resolved as i have the opposite issue , Mine does go down and i wish it didn't
  12. Hi does anyone know what the pipe fittings are on the T-Max pump , either the thread size or what the snap fitting is . Dont really want to chop the pipe and fit a standard fitting just yet .
  13. Did anyone ever sort out these thread sizes . .????
  14. Wasn't there some issue of the turbo running away ?? . it was some danger of something going pop .
  15. Heard about this but wasn't to sure about it , So you would advise doing it . , the Plenum thread is as Troll Hunter said 12x1.5 .
  16. Hi does anyone know the thread size of the EGR blanking plate bolts . Ive give a little try and they feel like they will snap like carrots , so think best to have a TAP ready . defender 300tdi , thanks gerry
  17. Thank for that , fantastic . Now i know i can get on .
  18. Hi does anyone know the thread size in the intake manifold at the rear on a defender 300tdi . To take a boost gauge feed .
  19. Looks good , not sure how to wire it up , do I just miss out the coil bit .
  20. Hi i want a bit of extra security so i want to fit an isolate switch on the battery box . Do i switch the poss or neg . i can fit a jumper fuse to keep the radio presets Is there a simple way to not fry the alternator If it was ever switched with engine running . If so how please . thanks gerry
  21. defender 90 300tdi 1996 rear 70cm fitted , new one coming is 69cm i assume closed fully .
  22. This craziness has been going on for at least this last 12-18 months ive been looking . I sold my last 1985 118k 90 4 years ago , it was fully rebuilt 5 years before i got it , nice straight no issues and sold it for £2200 and thought i had done ok . Just got another after searching for one not like what you describe above , And found 1996 105k 300tdi , body work is ok but there's corrosion under the paint in places etc , overall its ok but not as good as my last old girl (maybe 😢) , but had to pay £6800 for it , originally it was listed for 8K . There was a 6000 watt power inverter worth £800 ??? in it a bit of a bonus if i can sell it , But still Silly money , Any less money and were nothing better than scrap . I agree totally mad mad mad
  23. Hi i know the weather is not ideal or where i can do it , but ive only just got the 90 a few weeks back and its got to be done . Ive hand pump sprayed fertan then i got serious and used the compressor and paraffin gun and sprayed 5ltrs of Jenolite in and outside the chassis . Tomorrow getting really serious and spraying Dinitrol ML inside/out . Now after i have sprayed the ML do you think i will be ok to spray the top coat Dinitrol 4941 , it gives it dry + sunny spells tomorrow and i will blast it withe air gun prior to starting . thanks for any reassurance given .
  24. Main thing is i definitely know mine is not a L316 . so must be a LD .
