  1. I don't see why my post should be compared to that of a 12 year old when purely stating an opinion, which I mistakenly assumed was the aim of a forum. I am in fact 76 years old & since the age of 19 owned five series vehicles (some of which have served me well in LR club competitions) all of which have been petrol powered. I have also owned four V8 Range Rover classics, including the original example I've now had for thirteen years. I was merely surprised at the OP's choice of a 4x4 in the land of cheap (by European standards at least) fuel & large capacity engines. nb. I disagree with you on your comment 'a series LR will never be that' My love child would be a Stage One V8 station wagon.
  2. I'm going to be really contentious here & ask the question that others have probably held back on ... why would someone from the land of 'there ain't no substitute for cubes' buy a puny 2.25L diesel? Even with the UK's high fuel prices the market over here for such underpowered & mind numbingly slow vehicles is reserved for total masochists 😏 Even amongst our farming community, traditional users of LR products, you'd have to search long & hard to find such a museum piece still in use. No offence intended though, I hope you get the problem sorted.
  3. I don't know to what extent the lowering of compression ratio, due to the use of composite gaskets, would have as I've only ever checked the values on an engine with tin items, but your readings are very low & you are right to be concerned. Even on a 3.5L I've had an average of 155. I believe when reassembling with just 10 bolts it's advised to install the 'unused' bolts as well & just nip them up. but I doubt that would be a contributory factor to your problem (?) I'm sure qualified members will be along with advice shortly, good luck !
  4. My solution to this problem may be of interest to others. Using a thin flat-blade screwdriver it's possible to prise the actual vent out of the moulding, rotate it & snap it back in. That way the moulding fits back into the facia the same way up whilst the air flow direction is changed. Can't think why I didn't suss it out before posting, I guess it's what's known as 'thinking outside the box' Take care when doing this though, remember this is a plastic component & in many cases an old one (in my case 34 years) so be gentle.
  5. Just out of interest(?) I still have one of these fitted to my '87 & it works 😏 Probably original, it's certainly not been replaced in my 13 years of ownership.
  6. Thank you. Thinking 'breakers' maybe?
  7. Sorry for the late reply, I've been experiencing PC problems. I've tried rotating the vent, but although they initially look the same either way up the moulding is different on bottom edge, which means it doesn't fit into the aperture in the dash properly. Now that I'm back on line it's time for a little more 'digging'
  8. That's interesting, I have the same problem but OK if I put something under my head 🤔 Maybe an age thing (in my case anyway)
  9. Many thank for your reply, so the vents must be handed (?) whereas my '87 must have two the same. I'll have to do a part # search Your help is appreciated.
  10. Could any hard-dash Classic owners tell me if their facia fresh air vents both face the same way (ie the passenger side vent on a RHD car is closed when the slider is moved towards the left) The vents will only fit into the facia one way therefore cannot be rotated 180 degrees, so is there a left & right hand part number ? Thanks to all.
  11. This problem is not confined to P38's. In recent years both our Mondeo & BMW door locks have played up in hot weather, but will operate after a couple actions with the remote. Sorry I can't be of more help, I'm useless with modern electronics 🤔 Hope you get it sorted.
  12. I've a vague recollection that a company in the UK that re-cons/services Citroen suspension can rebuild the Bose, but this was a while ago & I can't recall the details.
  13. Quite true Steve, only the name Velar on pre-production vehicles. Interestingly my '87 Vogue is registered with the DVLA as a Rover, as opposed to LR which you would expect as that was the company's name from 1978.
  14. I admire your determination & the balls to undertake this project, but I have to ask WHY ? Why would you ruin a perfectly good Classic by retrofitting such a complex piece of technology (or junk depending on your point of view) when you could be in the market for the factory built model with that engine designed into it ? Sorry to post the only down-beat reply, this is only my second post & I'll try to be less cynical in the future 😇
  15. Nice buy, shame it's not original but the power swap will obviously make the car more usable as a daily. Any idea where the V8 originated from, it's a later unit with a 2 or 4 barrel carb & that sticker (that I can't quite read) on the left valve cover could indicate a specialist build ? Enjoy 😉
