  1. Or and Mr Wabbit suggests, if you have access to a lathe then you can polish the seal lands. It should be ok as long as the interference fit for the lip seal remains within tolerance.
  2. If it was mine I would be changing them, a rough surface finish will tear a new seal to shreds.
  3. Interestingly a friend of mine has just tried to re-new his tax online and the DVLA website won't let him, of course this could be completely unrelated but you never know...
  4. I've got to write 600 words on a famous engineering entrepreneur for a module at Uni, has anybody got any ideas? The first person that sprang into my mind was James Dyson but I would like to write about someone less well known if possible!
  5. As in Ringmer, East Sussex? I live in the next village when I'm not at Uni but might be able to help depending upon what you require?!
  6. Just read this sold for £129,000 including buyer's premium and VAT!!!
  7. Nige a friend has got one of these on his lathe: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-axminster-sieg-coolant-system-prod570891/#bottomsection 27 litre capacity James
  8. Turners sell "King" bearings IIRC. http://www.kingbearings.com
  9. The 300tdi block doesn't have liners as standard however they can be retro-fitted. With regards to the OP's question I think it will save you a lot of time and money in the long run by replacing the block like for like.
  10. I can do it if no one else wants to. PM me if your interested and I'm sure we can work out a fair deal
  11. Snap-on UK will give you your local dealers number if you give them a call, thats if all the above doesn't work!
  12. What about a ptfe based coating like Turcite or Moglice?
  13. ContiTech might be worth a try: http://www.contitech.de/pages/produkte/antriebsriemen/antrieb-industrie/antrieb-industrie_en.html They have also got a free design software which might be useful if you can obtain a licence key.
  14. Petes thats just what I'm after, thank you very much GBMUD I wouldn't have a clue what internet websites your talking about...
  15. Hi petes, I need the distance from the centre of the gudgeon pin to the top face of the piston, it doesn't have to be super accurately measured just within a 1mm if possible. Could you also take a picture of the back of the piston to show the recess for the con rod? Many thanks, James
  16. Does anyone have a TD5 piston that they could take some measurements from for me?
  17. Skimming the head won't change the piston protusion, only skimming the block will have that affect. However skimming the head will reduce the combustion chamber size and bring the valves closer to the pistons hence the need to install a thicker head gasket.
  18. Hi Frax, I presume this is on a 300tdi engine? The easiest option is to put it in a high gear with the handbrake on, however this will only work up to a limit until the clutch slips. The other option is to remove the starter motor and lock the flywheel, some people just wedge a socket or something between the ring gear and the engine housing, but I preferred to quickly knocked up a tool which bolts on where the stater motor fits. I'll try to dig out a photo. James
  19. I've got a set of Waeco ones in my 90 and they are brilliant in the cold weather. The cheapest supplier I could find was MPS 4x4 http://dca.dominohosting.biz/dca/mpsdb01.nsf/MainCatalogue!OpenForm&RestrictToCategory=90_110:%20SEATS%20AND%20COVERS James
  20. I got one from Greenwood tooling, they are available in a range of shank sizes: http://www.greenwood.../shopscr20.html It turned out to be sandvik when it arrived, really good quality, inserts are readily available and often pop up on ebay too. James
  21. Just found it for myself, part no. 233243 http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php?xProd=78470
  22. Does anyone know the part number for the bulkhead grommet that the speedo cable passes through? The grommet is 25mm/1" if that helps. Thanks in advance
  23. Thanks for the help, I've got it sorted now. For future reference the thread is 7/16" UNF. James
  24. Ralph, The bolt I require secures the upper seat belt pivot point into the B post of the truck cab.
