We have been known to consume quite abit We are under a similar thought process and looking for something that is easily taken with us across Russia and Asia without the added weight to the main vehicle. Unfortunately, the truck is playing up at the moment so this week I had off to work on the trailer has been spent on the truck...but that's just typical LR ownership! Unfortunately not, the weather in Wales was, shall we say, a tad wet and too wet to fly the drone which is my main camera at the moment. I will get some sorted soon so it can be seen in it's natural environment

I stripped the top down to the cam carriers today to have a poke around and nothing but carbon residue in the oil which was to be expected. Still undecided whether I should strip it all down, but a new noise has now kind of answered that. On the way back from Wales, almost 20 miles from home we heard a noise coming from the drivetrain. Taking the centre tray out so I could poke my head above the gearbox/transfer box I got Nikki to drive about to see if I could work out where it's coming from. It doesn't feel like it's coming from the props, but it's difficult to pin point it. The noise progress's from; Gear in Neutral, coasting down a hill - no noise Gear in any gear, clutch in coasting down a hill - noise evident Gear in any gear, clutch out and drive engaged - noisy It also quietens down when you hit 60mph + in 6th My first thought is it's clutch related, mainly because that's the easiest to look at, however it's a new clutch and a decent one at that ( clutch fix ) I did the oils in both transfer and gearbox last week, transfer box was like tea but the gearbox was pretty perfect. No residue or metal bits on the transfer plug, but it was ' sludgy '. Any thoughts welcome, but I may just rip the whole lot out again to have a look ( and I'm getting good at it )

Blew me away when I first learnt to do this on a 22T machine...to this day I still believe an alternative universal force is at play

The trailer did well on it's maiden voyage with us. Firstly it's a doddle to tow, as Sankeys usually are, and other than bad positioning of reversing lights and running lights, there's nothing to change in that sense. I quickly took the CF30 fridge from the truck and fitted it into the trailer for this trip but didn't take into account the power required for it. Finally fitting the fridge in the evening before the trip, we loaded it up and switched it on through the night so that took a fair chunk of battery power, then we were experiencing cloudy rainy days which didn't allow the battery to recover that well...but it ran the fridge at 12.3v for the 4 days we were out. I will look to fit an secondary towing plug so I can charge the battery whilst towing as the truck has the alternator plug fitted and I will look at the solar panel as it's a cheap Ebay jobby, a possible upgrade there. The tent is great, plenty of room and if you know roof tents then you know they're good at what they do. this one has the extended front so you don't get wet getting in and out which was a god send this week as it Mildly miffed down 90% of the time! A few niggly bits...the rail fall off from the tent drips onto the kitchen area and lack of general lighting, both these I will look into. Other than that, it was nice to be able to not worry much about weight in the truck

I've been doing some miles over the past month or so and one thing which has become apparent is the black smoke on hard acceleration and losing oil. Combined with this is the burning oil smell when it's warming up. Since the vacuum pump self destructed, I believe part of the internals of it ( being plastic and melted ) had entered the block and has caused some chaos which I was hoping wasn't the case. I re did the injector seals recently and have since checked them again with no issues and 600 miles since doing them, but I'm still getting pressure in the camshaft area. Even with these issues the truck still pulls like a train and cruises along happily at speed. On a good note we threw the truck around in Wales and it didn't skip a beat and the tyres certainly did well.

We have thought of that, however if it doesn’t work out for us then the resell could be hampered by it being bright green! On that basis it’s staying as it is for the time being 😁

We sat in the woods a few weeks ago in Wales and decided that the weight being carried around in the truck was a fair bit ( Roof tent + dormobile, food, alcohol etc ). Also wanting to go around we were packing up and driving about to come back and reset camp we figured it would be good to try a trailer set up to see if it'll suit our needs for now and the future. We sold the caravan and bought a trailer built on a Sankey. Having a look around this one was complete at a decent price for what it came with. On top is a Howling Moon stargazer 1.8 tent with full porch and a HM 270 awning. It has an onboard water tank, battery, solar panel, fuel tanks and tons of storage. The front A frame hitch has been dropped as the previous owner was running a NAS rear bumper, but this works for me as I would like to fit a rear winch to the truck in the future, so the standard NATO receiver will be low enough not to foul this. The chap who had it before me did a full refurb on the brakes and frame and spent some time and money getting it to where it is and although I will be ripping it apart adjusting it in the near future, we're going to spend the next few weeks getting used to the idea of it. I'll update as I go along

' Tad wobbly ' is of course my way of putting it. I get a wobble at 55-65mph and when under the truck this morning changing the oils in the gearbox/transfer box I gave everything a good shake to make sure it's still attached where it needs to be. Whilst doing this, the front output for the transfer box has some movement, not a lot, possibly less than a mm, but it is there none the less. What's the probably diagnosis of this do you think? Big job? The oil that drained out looked like tea and was a little thin as well with some sludge built up on the magnetic plug. Gearbox was that good I felt like re using it!

the 255/85\s just make the truck look more complete. I have removed the spacers although the inner kid still wants them on as they look even cooler, however they rub the arches and aren't a particular great idea on an overloading truck.

If you check out seals direct's website they do quite abit of car stuff from yesteryear with pdf's showing actual measurements etc.

Great year! I was fed, watered and clothed then given lots of weapons to shoot and things to throw which blew stuff up and generally get drunk quite a lot. Fortunately it never happened at the same time The music was alright as well

Spending some time creating a website and instagram channel, I came across a few pics. I made this little before and after pic, top one was the day I collected the truck and the bottom was taken 3 days ago... A bit of a difference wouldn't you say?

I did consider a rub plate as you say, I even measured out some 2mm alu to form along the contour of the tank and bend away slowly so as to not create the ' lip ' that the tyre hits when the shock compresses...it's a bit unnerving when you hear it even on bends when doing a left hander at speed ( I use the word speed loosely here )...but it'll come under the guise of ' bodge ' rather than ' fix '

We went on a jolly last week up to sunny ( make that VERY sunny ) Wales and stumbled on the Strata Florida route by accident. Nikki was driving so she got to drive it whilst I sat there flying the drone and being a very nervous technical navigator for her. Anyway, I'm not looking for anyone to measure the Strata Florida route, but I did come up with a ' problem ' with my aux tank I fitted awhile ago in that it sits into the rear wheel arch space. This wasn't an issue on the 7.50 tyres but now I have big boy tyres( or little if your @FridgeFreezer & @landroversforever 😁 ) the tyre was rubbing on the edge of the tank. Now I bought the tank cheap...as you do, and I figured it was worth a punt for the money and I got it shoe horned into the rear arch space and just lined up but it sits forward of where I want it. I have 2 options, drop it out, drain it, wait a while and then cut the front section out and re weld it so it sits further back or buy one at full retail that is designed for the TDCI 110 set up. As for the tape measure, well I can only assume this tank is for a model where the filler cap sits a little further back in the rear quarter, so can you ( the greater LR4x4 members ) measure from the rear corner to the edge of the filler area and give me the measurements so I can ascertain what year/vehicle this would fit? Mine's a 110 USW TDCI 2011 and the measurement is; 233mm Ta

I find fixing anything will always produce better mpg as I always end up with left over bolts, washers and odd bits which reduces the weight of the vehicle overall. My estimate is the current tuck is at least 5kg lighter with this ideology.

I bought a dometic cf30 draw fridge which allows you to mount the compressor away from the unit to keep the hot part away from the cold part and if you’re short on space ( which in a landy we are ) you can mount it up to 1.5 metres away which allows some creative thinking! Im very impressed with it and as a drawer you can store more in it over a standard upright as stuff ( I mean vodka bottles) won’t need securing without wasting space but it’s not cheap at just over £600. i went through the usual ideas if hacking a table top fridge to fit where I wanted and running that from an inverter but they just pull too much power. A good 12v fridge will save you in the long run for sure.
