  1. OME are the best. TF are fair, but very poor powder coating. Britpart may or may not be any good depending on who the manufacturer was
  2. The lump pulls like a train from tick-over, really smooth and it looks right. A friend has one of the old kits for a 2.25 as well as one of the old turbo kits. He's been building a 2.8 pet for a while
  3. It is interesting, It's saved many a TD5 head
  4. I believe it was an old Shorrocks, from a 2.25 series kit, supplied in the olden times
  5. Can you still get chromed swivels?
  6. Having recently had a drive of a supercharged 200Sdi, I'm rather hoping that's could be one of Nick's secret projects..
  7. My late Disco 200 is 24 spline and roller bearings
  8. Fair point. For me it's worth £50 for the quality, reliability and support from Nick. It's also purple and shiny. I generally avoid shiny on my vehicles, but this is hidden away, so it only becomes a natter of discussion when the bonnet is up. I do also like that the kit is all made up and ready to fit. Nothing has to be dressed, filed, etc and I don't have to find correct bolts. Added to which, Nick has expensive tastes
  9. My local engine re-builder has a crack filling process for alloy heads and blocks that uses a liquid chemical metal and pressure to fill cracks. They developed it for the top fuel engines they build, but found it was also very good for TD5's However those cracks look small enough to simply fill with carbon during use
  10. Interestingly, the pump on my old T5 2.5 il5 was the same as on the 200/300 and it's boost pin was exactly the same profile and dims as the standard 200/300. I was told the Audi version of this lump had a better profile....
  11. The Vitara has been particularly reliable and all the basic service software is ok on a basic Garage reader. I have to take the car into the main dealer to re-set an SRS warning light. I fitted a new sensor, all works fine, but I can't wipe the light with a standard reader, it comes back on after 20 mins....
  12. Suzuki are very protective of their software. I can get the dealer to do the re-set, but that's £140 per hour
  13. I have TPMS sensors on my Vitara. Really good, but you can't swap wheels around or it gets upset
  14. I was chatting to Adrian form 4x4days about this a couple of Sunday's back. We used to MOT check the vehicles on line, at the event. However he had a chat with his brief about the legality of turning up in an non MOT'd vehicle. The brief said that signature of the acceptance form put all liability onto the punter, if an accident was down to lack of MOT, as he/she/they had signed to accept that they had an MOT'd vehicle. The TPL is more for something done by the organisers/marshals when undertaking recovery, setting out a course, allowing the use of a certain are etc. As marshals, if we don't want to attach recovery equipment to a vehicle, because it's a death-trap , we have the right to refuse. Or we can get the punter to attach their kit to their vehicle. If said death-trap launches it's self off a hill and wipes out three vehicles at the bottom, no matter whether it's got an MOT or not, it's the individual drivers responsibility, although they can take a civil action out against the owner of the death-trap. Very few P&P organisers actually get legal advice
  15. 235/85x16 is my tyre of choice. Has been for years and 100's or 1000's of miles in various vehicles for over 30 years, always on MT's, except on Trac Edge. Probably driven on every type of surface apart from artic ice. I rarely air down, although I used to when I ran 7.50x16 XCL's or SAT's. My vehicles don't suffer from excess tyre wear Admittedly I tend to go by tyre manufacturer guidance rather than LR guidance, then do the chalk test
  16. It's a serious option. A 605 with a mechanical pump from a 602/662 would be about 140-150bhp if I avoided boring it out to 6mm. Smooth and nice to drive, not excessively torquey On the negative side, it won't run on Rape oil and it won't be as economic as the 200. But these are things I can put up with
  17. I run the 2.3tonne Disco on 33 front and 30 back, with 235/85x16. However the tyre walls on the Falkens are stiff, so this was worked about with chalk My 110 was 33 front and 35 rear for the same size of tyre My 100" was 33 front and 30 rear Rear tyre pressures are raised for towing or max weight, but only by a few psi I've heard of some folk who run 110's at 60psi rear/ 40psi front!
  18. A site has to hold TPL, just for possible trespass/ injury issues, but the event holders will hold TPL for the event, so the site site TPL won't be crazy money and trespass liability is greatly reduced by the correct signage. Site maintenance is chunk of moolah, but not crazy, especially for WAM, who are owned by Walters Mining. Environmental issues are often troublesome, although generally unfounded, unless the site is of some form of protective interest. But Environmental isn't just ecology, so noise, pollution and water contamination are high up on the list... Planning is the big boy for WAM. There is a strong rumour of some events getting the green light by the local council thanks to brown envelopes. I'm wondering if that rumour is being investigated. However site like Binegar don't have the above issues. Newton Abbot has just closed due to it becoming houses in the near future. Two of the quarries up the Mendips have major water issues after this last year so can't get TPL (although Binegar hasn't had issues with this and they have an area flooded to just below the roof line of a D2). In my work wanderings, I'm always looking out for site, even in Ralph's part of the world. With quarries being the most sought after and landfill the next. But I will admit to struggling now
  19. I think that was a pre booked pre-booked event Mike, with Walters AM honouring those who have paid up to a cut off date. Interestingly WAM isn't the only site closing it's doors to 4x4 events. I know of two others going the same way. I know the owner of one site very well and I've been trying to find out why...
  20. I run a 200Tdi. I have one spare engine. When it's gone, I'll either fit a V8 (which I also have) or fit an alternative diesel
  21. What's the expected life of a standard 24 spline half shaft, with out big tyres and driven properly? Difficult question, but I'm looking at refreshing my Disco axles. I've yet to break a half shaft, but know it will happen eventually. I over fill with EP and use a good HD oil. I drive steadily and sympathetically, without huge power, without Speshul Tracks and I see no point in going heavy duty on the whole drive train, although I may fit an LSD sooner or later I pulled the rear half shafts at the weekend and they are pretty much as new, but I've had them for ten years and probably about 15k off road in all sort of conditions. I'm tempted to replace them all, and the CV's, as I have the time/money Suggestions please
  22. Did you use Somerset Bearing Supplies? From FB? As suggested... Best bearing suppliers in the UK
  23. There's a fair number of engine specialists who just weld the crack up There's a fair few on EbayUK. Paddocks have a brand spanking new one and Simmonites are selling reconditioned
