  1. Well parts are arriving slowly, v8 is out, conversion plate, clutch, rad are here and i've ordered crank seal, gasket etc to fit conversion plate to tdi. in my ignorance i hadn't realised it replaces the original flywheel housing!! thought the hole was a bit small for the clutch.......

Just got to work out the clutch friction plate fitting, I've been told a series III centre will fit the clutch plate and the LT95 shaft...will compare v8 as well................see how we go tommorow!

    :)

  2. Finally have engine out!! piccies here

I know, poor rangie it's like castrating a teenage dog!! but my wallet was starting to have tantrums any time we went out .....

Here's hoping the diesel will be a bit better ....... til i play with it i spose.... :D

Cheers for the input chaps.... :)

  3. My rangie had some before the engine change. When we started fitting the new engine we realised that if we put the insulation back before fitting the engine we couldn't get our hands in to refit the bell housing bolts. If we did the engine first, there was no way we would get the insulation back in past the bolts and clips...so we chucked it in the bin, and quite frankly I can't tell the difference.

Ah ha, well here's hoping the 200 Tdi isn't louder than the V8...???

At last I now have a twin engined sankey trailer!! Well two engines in it, thanks for the advice Geoff, all bolts and engine fully out now! Just waiting on the conversion plate and clutch to arrive to get Tdi in...! Well it's easy int it??

    Cheers

  4. I've come in for a cuppa and a packet of biscuits cos' i've got the hump with these blinkin bellhousing bolts. Top three are out, 30 min each..........how do you get to the one with the wiring loom retainer on it, offside one down from top...??? blisters and expletives exhausted!

any ideas...i will be chopping out the rusty exhaust pipe shortly so that'll be out the way....

    Cheers all..

    Phil

  5. I'm with you all on the above comments as i and my family all walk the hills and fells when the chance arises, thankfully never needed rescue and generally are well prepared ourselves. That doesn't mean that one day one of us may need the help of an organisation such as this..!!

From the front page today I see that the LR4x4 forum has 1,242 members, just a thought but if we ALL stumped up a tenner that'd put a tidy sum in the bank for the cave rescue team...........???

  6. evening, having looked at the pics, the articblower is very, very similair to the rack blowers we fit in our coaches, and the arcticheat is nearly the same as the coach heaters ! so i bet you can guess where i am going this this line of thinking.... :-)

thank you for the pictures, i can feel some fabrication coming up..

    cheers...

No worries, it'll get a home i'm sure!

FYI the block connector is a std BSP (?) fitting 11/4".........need to check that but definately thereabouts, can be bought at plumb merchants i guess....still it is 4 in the morning (maybe zoom the photo?)

    Cheers.

  7. Not strictly true as it will ned some sealing. I've seen too many people dive strainght into water after fitting a snorkel to they're Tdis only to hydro them.

A HD clutch is well worth it. IMHO the standard clutch is hardly up to the job (I once did a standard clutch in 2 day long events with the Tdi  ). The 130 ones last longer although a paddle clutch is better still.

What gearbox are you using? If its an LT77 or R380 then make sure you fit a new clutch actuating arm!

    It's the 4spd RR box, 1980 so lt95 or lt85??

'Was wondering about the arm.........

  8. Arctic heater needs a home, cluttering up garage and I've had a RR for a few years now so no use to me anymore!!

The front plate has had the pipe connections turned around to fit it behind the bulkhead (S11A SWB) but otherwise std. in reasonable nick with all pipes (i think) and block connector/tap/themostat housing/window vents/etc.

    Pics can be e-mailed.

  9. need to change the pads on the range rover, first time for me  anything i need to watch out for? any special tips?

    regards

    orange

Ignore me if this is a grandma and sucking eggs comment..........................

don't forget to use plenty of copper slip between the piston and brake pad BACK where they meet and on the pins when you put them back if you have them. helps prevent rust and squeeks. mind the material side!!

  10. 3. Go for a clutch out of a 130 you shouldn't need anything more, and they're only a little over £110.

    4. There's not too much wrong with the standard airbox setup, at least it's easy to snorkel up!

    Cheers. :)

    3. OEM Valeo HD clutch "as used by many utility co.s" from '4x4 Mail Order' at £126.99 does that sound about right.? to suit all 200/300tdi.

    4. righto, cheaper too, snorkel ready to hook up.

front panel out just searching for a crane then.......

still can't remember no. 5.......doh. sure it'll come to me as I enter this post..!!!

  11. Hi folks,

some more Q's if you're all up for it..? cheers in advance!

Have sourced an engine, (cheers Chris), have mounts on way, it'll take a week for the adapter plate to arrive from ordering (once pay day comes and goes..!) and I know I'll need a disco rad with oil cooler in.

    V8 ready to come out.

    1. can i get the g'box out with the engine? assuming everything is disconnected g'lever, props etc.

    2. will an eng. crane cope with the range of movement needed? ( have not got one (borrow or buy?)so am considering a scaffold tower...?)RR classic on 235/85/16s...could swap wheels for sankey trailer ones..?

    3. is a heavy duty clutch worth it.....almost double std price, will be towing occasionally and plan to offroad as much as pos.?

    4. anyone got the gale force air box set up (k&n) as i haven't got any airbox yet so go straight for the upgrade...?

    5. more i'm sure but the pizza's burning....mnmmmm

    Cheers all for input.....

  12. Just done this conversion in my bobtail, its awsome!!! just watch the rear of the rocker cover fouling on the bulkhead, mines a bit tight! Used disco mounts seam welded on, very easy conversion took a whole day to do including gearbox aswell

    Nice one!

And if you don't mind .. ........what gearbox did you use? if it was a 4 spd, what adapter did you get ..?

    and exhaust....?

    Cheers mate. :)

  13. Cheers chaps, thanks for the piccy landrover598, I am going for a set from Motor and Diesel Engineering that are supplied with their own bolt on jig to get them tacked in place before seam welding.

on with the job then i guess..!

    Cheers.

    B)

  14. Has anyone got or fitted a 200 Tdi into a RR classic? I thought at one stage LR fitted these to the later classics (mines a 1980 2dr) so there would be some factory parts used to fit it.......?

At the moment I'm most interested in the engine mounting (as from other posts and the help I've got an idea of the gearbox fitting etc..)

    Thanks.

    :D
