  1. Gotcha. Very true although I have to say that the last two or three Puma's I bought went pretty well but I was always mindful that it was no stronger in the body dept than the standard Series jobbies I trundled about in decades ago.
  2. Idiots are to be found driving all kinds of vehicles, 'proper' Defender's included. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the standard of driving in that clip the integrity of the passenger compartment of the vehicle after the incident potentially offered greater survivability when compared to the relatively flimsy hardtop on a standard 'proper' Defender.
  3. Following discussions about the current trends in secondhand values of the new and old Defender models I wonder if sales of the Grenadier are likely to be impacted? Interested to read views and opinions.
  4. The batteries for the last Makita I got gave up the ghost in no time as did the replacements I bought. My corded Makita's I have must be thirty years old and have had some serious use in their time, they have held up well although the power leads have been a bit troublesome in the past.
  5. Adjusting the steering box on the '43 Jeep today I decided to give the old gal's nipples a bit of attention. As I walked over to get a fresh grease cartridge off the shelf a wee mouse scurried across the floor and disappeared under the shelf racking. Probably the great, great, great grandkid of the one that chewed through my mower wiring...
  6. Ah Zeus, moderating memories of trying to keep order in the mammoth thread on the old LRE forum.
  7. Was a long time ago now but my first car was a red Mk1 that had the long non remote gear-lever. It hhat had a wooden dash very similar to that.
  8. I had mice take a fancy to the wiring and sundry essential bits of fuel pipe in my ride on mower which was then only a year or two old. This caused an impressive conflagration and a burns to my arms when I pushed the burning mass out to prevent loss of the building and its contents. I was in the same building last just about to shut a pair of the big doors when a partridge flew in with the afterburners on and smacked into the end wall. Methinks more game for the freezer but it came to before the spaniel or I could get to it, stumbled about looking a bit dazed then flew rather erratically up into the apex of the roof. As I wanted to shut up shop up I didn't want to leave it in there so spent ten minutes up a stepladder wielding the longest bit of batten I could find persuading it to leave the way it came in. The dog must have thought the season must have started early this year and it was the weirdest beating she had seen.
  9. Ah yes, I remember when he burst onto the scene with 1001 questions about new Defenders prior to owning one. Same with the corrosion treatment malarky.
  10. Aha.... Obviously insufficient zoom, scrutiny and imagination on my part.
  11. I still don't understand, an explanation in plain English would be appreciated.
  12. Aye, but asking a price and actually achieving it is another matter.
  13. A shed load of cash more than the top spec Puma 110 XS USW's I bought new.
  14. Courtesy costs nothing was something that was drilled into me from a very early age. IF everyone were to abide by that maxim then the world would be a far better place. To be honest gents I think that all that needs to have been said has been and subsequently this thread has run its course. Some will agree, some disagree but such is life. Closing this now.
  15. Based on my experience with a new Puma Defender in 2007 if I'm still around I won't be laying cash down on an early production example, others can have that pleasure.
  16. If the video showed a small to medium size electric powered family saloon passing what appear to be elderly cyclists on a narrow country lane that had a damp surface at the same distance and speed would there still be accusations of hidden agendas and potential footage fiddling I wonder.
  17. Did the lead cyclist stop as the vehicle approached causing the wobbly one to keel over or did he stop just after the camera swung as the rear person shouted and gesticulated, job to say. The driver should have slowed or stopped. Period.
  18. I don't want to get involved with the wider cyclist, horse rider, horse drawn vehicle, walkers debate. The UK is a crowded place and we all need to show some common sense, to give and take. Unpopular as it will make me here I observe in that video a relatively narrow country lane with a damp surface. It would not have hurt the Land Rover driver to further slowed right down or even stop. A few seconds lost on a journey is nothing compared to the potential consequences had the wobbly cyclist toppled over into the path of the vehicle. Pulling out of a carpark yesterday I noted an elderly gentleman pushing a walking aid slowly approaching the midway point. I stopped and beckoned to him to continue. Courtesy costs nothing.
  19. Aye, looks like it. I quite like the look of the thing as a whole.
  20. Me too Mo but sitting on the beach trying to stop the tide was proven to be fruitless centuries ago. Self charging spinach batteries are the future ..toot toot...
  21. Appealing in looks perhaps but what with world affairs, energy, fuel plus food security and other concerns I really can't get too excited about a pickup that will do much the same as one I bought new last year. Times they are a changing folks....
  22. Haha, I recall adverts in Exchange and Mart for "over-sills" that you could fit over existing panels to cover up inconvenient patches of corrosion and any unsightly holes. Welding not required 🤣
