  1. Oh - I put on General Grabber AT tyres as they are very good and give a softer ride than BFGs. Dogs no Children Yes. The 4 of us are off on a day trip tomorrow and they choose the Puma over the FL
  2. I have a 2010 90 XS as a daily driver and we have been all over France etc in it. The difference which made it a great car is: Dynamat sound insulation, quieter than an FL1 at 70 now ! Koni shocks replaced HD rear springs with standard road LR spriings Uprated Kenwood HU, speakers, and Alpine SW. A few othe 'bits' like the glove box, rear door damper, Momo steering wheel, Mud Rails [long legs] etc. Oh......personal choice......I converted mine to an Ashcroft Auto box.......massive difference. I now have a personalised 90 XS that will go anywhere and my wife loves it, prefers to be a passenger but also drives it as well. Best combination ever
  3. I changed from BFG AT to GG AT because I went from a few K a year and soft off road to 1000 miles a month on A roads and motorways plus 3k across France in the summer. No problems at all with them and wearing very well
  4. have a look here, reasonable prices and also heavy duty glue. I found heavy duty double sided carpet tape good for the sides. http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-15-sound-deadening.aspx
  5. I had a special tool when I changed my springs - it's called a-son ! As said above but I had a-son push down on the hub to make popping the spring out easier, did not need a spring compressor. The longest part was initally working out how to remove the Puma turret cover under the bonnet with breaking it. If I recall start to finish took about an hour for all springs and shocks.
  6. I have a similar TD4 and found the 225/55/17 tyres gave a harsh ride and expensive to replace. I bought off ebay a set of 16" rims, fitted 215/65/16 tyres which has improved the ride a lot and then sold the 17's. The overall cost to me was about 1 wheel and tyre for a better set up. I am told you can air them down but I don't know how much.
  7. ...and make sure the infill strip join overlaps the outer seal join to ensure no leaks
  8. very impressive. One day i would like to re-furb and SIII or an early 90.
  9. I have tried ordinary diesel with FB and FC 2so and BP Ultimate with both. I have just run the last 5 tanks without any 2so as a test, filled up 2 days ago with 1:200 FC 2so, that's 100 miles worth and it is quieter and smoother. I use Castrol Aceto 2T. Tried various others, research loads and know of some people who seem very experienced and knowledgeable on another forum who have covered 200k+ miles in a Puma and swear by 2T. Each to their own though
  10. hmmm, I would recommend either Pirelli Scorpion STRs or General Grabber ATs. My family have 2 FLs running the above in summer and winter and both have been fantastic whether in snow, wet or cruising to South France. I have also used the STRs on both 215s on 16" rims and 225's on 17" rims. The 215 ATs are on 16" rims and get the most hard use. They both wear well and I would buy both again without hesitation
  11. Have a look here http://www.deadening.co.uk/bonnet-solutions/ and at the Noise Killer http://www.noisekiller.co.uk/ the biggest difference to engine noise suppresion I have found is the Noise Killer engine blanket.
  12. you could try these people. very experienced and very good, http://www.the4x4solutions.com/The_4x4_Solutions/Welcome.html
  13. Pirelli Scorpion STR's. My 06 has 225/55/17's and I am bout to replace mine. They have been brilliant in the wet and in the snow over the last 3 yrs.
  14. the scuffing noise could be low pads rubbing on the discs which could be rusty. I always seem to fit new front pads and discs on new to me second hand cars.....it's a safety thing for me and quite low cost and they are easy to fit
  15. I just prefer auto's especially in regular traffic. Also the labour cost of a clutch change on a FL is very high, I have heard it is around £1200? A member of my family recently had a quote on one and as a result is thinking of changing his 53 plate FL for a later auto version. Each to there own though.
  16. yep, i remember now. it was a bunch of new 4x4s and and old series plodded past.
  17. got a loan FL2 from the dealer at present so i had to undertake a test to ensure it worked in the snow.......
  18. Ashcroft do have a demo, I am after any long term experiences if at all possible. cheers
  19. Hi, I am seriously considering an Ashcroft auto conversion on my Puma now that it is out of warranty. Has anyone on here driven one or own one that can give me their opinion on the conversion, driving experience etc. Thanks
  20. check out super pro bushes. swapped mind a while ago and they are much better than the standard ones IMHO
  21. have you checked ebay? there are a few on there but not sure if they would fit your version. example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JEEP-CHEROKEE-3-7-LIMITED-AUTO-ESTATE-2001-2004-3-7-ANTI-ROLL-BAR-REAR-/251136050366?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a78e004be
  22. check here as well http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-15-sound-deadening.aspx
  23. i'd check the MAF and for loose or split turbo hoses. The right angle turbo hose by the EGR maybe the culprit.
