  1. I have an intermittant problem on my 2005 TD5 110 Defender. Basically, when I turn the ignition on to the second position I should get an array of red lights hand brake etc and the amber lights of ECU and glow plug. The amber glow plug light goes off after a few seconds and I go to start her up (third position) engine turns over and starts correctly all warning lights go out with the obvious exception of the handbrake light. However, occasionally the ECU and coil light do not illuminate and whilst the engine turns over it will not start. There is plenty of power in the engine. This has necessitated 2 RAC call outs. The RAC guy (who has worked on X5's a lot at BMW) suggested perhaps a loose conection in the inner fuse box or ECU issues. He also said that there might be a defective common rail fuel sensor cutting fuel to the engine and disabling the engine startup proceedure. I took it into Landrover 'Harwoods' they had it the day started it +50 times it worked perfectly, they plugged it into the machine and the computer said the ECU was fine. They gave it back with a clean bill of health and charged me £50 for time. It let me down again two days later again. Any ideas anyone? My previous car was a Series 2, apart from one alternator failure it never let me down. I am a bit lost with this one. If it matters it is ex white fleet MOD 'special build' allthough it all looks fairly standard to me. Problem number 2 is the door lock buttons. When I looked back through the lease car service history I noted that the door lock buttons have been replaced. My son today managed to break the door button on the rear door. It is locked in the shut position the button literally snapped off. Is this a common problem? if so I think I will just get it unlocked and leave it without a lock. Does anyone know how I can unlock the door without taking the door card off. Thanks, Steady.
