  1. Result! I took the ovetdrive off and put on the original transmission gear. All the slop has gone, nice and smooth now when lifting off the power. Looking at the clutch sleeve it has a lip on the teeth that slide on the mainshaft also it was moving on this tooth wear ( mainshaft is fine no wear) I will over the winter split open the fairey and see what is worn ( def clutch sleeve though the outer fine teeth look fine so hopefully the corresponding teeth in the overdrive are not too worn.
  2. Excellent, i am just waiting on a new genuine steel bearing from blanchards as the plastic cage one it has was a bit crusty.
  3. Im pulling my fairey overdrive and going back to original for a bit. One question that is not answered in any literature, green bible, land rover service manual..nothing Is When fitting the support plate.with bearing in it do you grease the roller bearing in the support, im 100% yes you do but with what? Standard LM? Molybdenum grease? EP90? can anyone advise or better still find some literature on what land rover standard practice is on this part. just one other thing, my mainshaft support (transfer case cover plate) is cast iron, some were aluminium is there and differences, do they all fit the same?
  4. Looking through my pals stash of parts im trying to access rarity of parts, what is worth something and what is not. Im getting pretty good on most parts bonnets fans tubs etc. However he has these inner door cards which i think are in good condition. They look like this , i can just see them hiding in this picture, with the back ones as well so off a series 3 saloon. Worth keeping of two a penny?
  5. I'll ask if he has any stage 1 parts, don't think he has. The axles were cut and flipped to clear the prop shafts have a look here https://issuu.com/thelandy/docs/the_landy_nov_18
  6. I want an opinion on just this backlash, if it is normal. Prop disconnected from rear diff. 1st gear engaged Box has a fairey overdrive. I have rebuilt the box 7 years ago with minimal milage per year since. Normal or something loose or not right. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AoQ4CZYzE-ZEkn10ZSVCWlhtqhsu
  7. This is what my friend brian used to build in his younger days. He was telling me they bought them brand new then striped them back, the middle axle was cut and flipped(salisbury) and ashcroft were involved with the transfer box mods. The green one is a recently restored article.
  8. 😃 thanks for the replies, the final video i did earlier today was looking back at the gearbox, engaging 1st and.looking at the movement before the gearbox output resists in each direction, does this look normal. I totally rebuilt the gearbox 7 years ago with a nos layshaft and all new quality bearings, it has a nice quiet fairey overdrive. Im wondering about that castle nut in the box near the overdrive, should i check if that is looke or does it all look ok? https://1drv.ms/v/s!AoQ4CZYzE-ZEkn10ZSVCWlhtqhsu
  9. They looked ok 7 years ago:) trouble with an env axle is you need to take off the brake back plate and stub axle to allow the half shafts to be withdrawn due to their size, the looked like this last time they were out.
  10. Right got some video of today. I took the prop of to see what play i have with the ENV rear diff. This first video is with both drive flanges bolted up and wheels on the ground https://1drv.ms/v/s!AoQ4CZYzE-ZEknvzB9-k68PTEEbJ The next is the minimal play in the half shaft to drive flange https://1drv.ms/v/s!AoQ4CZYzE-ZEknqki5sQkLh0VTHI The next is as above drive flange unbolted but half shaft still engaged to look for play by turning the drive flange back and forth and observing the pinion flange. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AoQ4CZYzE-ZEknxVwnKUMIbxUnrx Does this spread any light for you people?
  11. He is having a clearout of parts from years of fixing the good and breaking the bad land rovers. Im going to get an idea of prices an then either advertise here or ebay. Here are a few pics of his collection or bits.
