  2. hi i have a defender 90 200tdi with a worn transfer box . a friend had a low milage transfer box from an automatic .when i fitted it it had an intermittent drone noise in 5th gear it would drone about every second .2 years later i fitted a new chassis and i also fitted a rebuilt r380 gearbox and axles with good diffs .i still have the drone noise (i can feel it through the body of the car )has anybody got any ideas about what it could be or is it a recon transfer box ?

  7. hi i have a recently tried to fit LED headlights and noticed the blue and red wire to the headlights is permanently live my old headlights worked ok but they were very dim iv changed the light switch and that's not helped could this be a relay problem ? how would i test for this ?if i pull the left light fuse it goes out .the blue and red cable going to the main beam switch is live .would a dodgy relay be able to make the cable live when the key isn't inserted?
  8. i watched a video on youtube saying if you earth the chassis of the radio to a good earth this should improve the signal .iv tried lots of aerials over the years on both defenders and they've both had a rubbish signal iv got to be doing something wrong
  9. yep ground is good .right or wrong i even grounded it to the bulkhead .iv tried a new aerial and a new radio but still the signal is just about ok . im wondering what aerial peaple are using ?
  10. can anybody give me some ideas how to get a decent fm signal on an older defender . what aerial you are using ? iv had a defender for about 15 years and iv never managed to get a good signal .
  11. iv fitted it and they said it would be 30 percent lighter and wow what a difference it makes its literally like driving a real car (ha ha) .yes it has changed the biting point but for me its a good trade off on a days laneing when your on and off the pedal all day. id say its a total success and well worth doing to any early defenders.

  19. hi im fitting a military r380 stumpy to my 200tdi defender im using all the parts ashcroft say you need to replace but iv had to take 25mm off the length of the slave cylinder pin and still cant get the slave cylinder to bolt up .is the r380 cylinder different from the lt77
