  1. I have a ex utility hydraulic kit ( winch and quick release couplings ) fitted to my land rover 90 and the unit that increases the revs has a bad oil leak and I was wondering if anyone had one for sale. I want to strip the old one down and re seal it but I use it regularly and cant really do with it off the road for a while. Many thanks, Bob
  2. Its about 3 seconds for 500mm travel out and the same back, its a nice speed and with it being a double acting ram you just back it off so you can get your next one in. The angle of the wedge seems to be the thing as you dont need to drive it home before it splits unless its nasty twisted stuff but its not been beaten yet, very happy with performance. HTH, Bob
  3. Hello Nick, the pipework is all flexible and runs along the inside of the chassis, the oil tank is in the back behind the drivers seat and the filter is located on the tank top under a large screw cap, it was a full kit off a electric board 110 Defender but mine is a 90 so I could not locate the tank under the drivers seat so it went in the back. The cooler is behind the front grill in front of the radiator and I have fitted a electric fan that I switch on when splitting/winching this keeps the engine and hydraulic oil cool and I run it for 1-2 hour stints with no problem at all, I think it would keep going till it ran out of diesel. The oil cooler is plumbed into the suction side of the system and the engine speed is set at 1500rpm when running the splitter and it operates at 2500psi at 33.6lpm. HTH, Bob
  4. Got bored with Christmas day already so I thought I would have a nosey on here, anyway not sure how far your project has gone but I have built a log splitter that is powered off my Defender, I bought the full hydraulic kit off a electric board landrover. It included tank hoses cooler rad, spool valves winch etc etc. The pump is direct onto the transfer box and has a flow of 33.6 lts per min at 2500 psi and combined wth a 2" ram puts out a serious amount of force, I have not had a refusal when splitting logs. When the ram is working an a tough piece of wood it slowes the engine a fraction as the resistance builds up so i would imagine a belt would slip. My kit works really well and I now advertise my splitting services. Have a nosey here, only a free website but it works for my needs. click on the photobucket links in the services section. http://www.bobs-logs.co.uk/ or look below at the links The splitter Here is the splitter in the build/welding http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/bobbd6543/RobsNokia200910234.jpg Here is the splitter ready for the pipework. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/bobbd6543/RobsNokia200910250.jpg The result of 40 mins very easy splitting, and the splitter makes a good holder for cutting with the saw, just apply a bit of pressure and it holds it solid http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/bobbd6543/RobsNokia200910252.jpg Winching with the landy http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/bobbd6543/RobsNokia200910230.jpg The system plugs direct into the hydraulic dry break connectors mounted on the front bumper of the Landrover http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/bobbd6543/Drybreakconnectors.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/bobbd6543/Sameas.jpg Any question please ask and I will share my experiences during the build with you. Ps Neil " http://www.log-rover.co.uk/ " was a great help with the build ATB Bob
  5. Had a nosey at the spool valve block and there is what could be the relief valve. It looks something like a brass coloured spark plug!!. It has lock nuts and a cap. What damage can I do by playing with this. . Could I do damage to the pump, that is my main concern. Thanks, Bob
  6. I have removed the panel and there is a bolt head sticking out of the top of the pto casing there is no lock nut or adjustment. The pump is just a block with in and outlets. could this be it.
  7. Been looking at the pdf again and there are only 2 pipes on the motor in the diagram, mine has a third small bore pipe that returns direct to the tank, do you think the motor has a built in relief system. Thanks, Bob
  8. It has the hydraulic throttle control which kicks in when winching, about 1500rpm.
  9. It also has the outlets for hydraulic tools on the bumper and it says on the PDF file they have full flow from the pump so there will be full flow to the spool valve assy. It must be one of the pipes from the spool valve to the winch drive motor. Would new pipes give it full flow ??. Thanks again, Bob
  10. Thanks for the info, Just been under the landy and had a look at the pump that is on the back of the transfer box and it is a solid unit with in and out pipes but no adjustment that I can see, am I looking in the right place Thanks, Bob
  11. Hello again, I have got a H14 superwinch (hydraulic off PTO pump) off a utility vehicle and it works fine and I was told by superwinch it should shift about 6 tons but mine cuts out well before this. I was winching tree sections and using the 11 mm wire rope and a rope extension to reach some of the sections of tree. The winch cut out when the tree section dug in the bank but it did not break the rope. It made me think of what the winch pulling power was. Have any of you guys had a winch pull tested or have any idea where I could get it done. Does anyone have a clue how a winch could be downrated like this. Many thank, Bob
  12. Genny arrived today, delivery guy has a bad back now. Many thanks, ATVB Bob
  13. Thats the one, got your PM. Will ring later. Many thanks. ATB Bob
  14. Very interested. How is it incorporated into the system. I will PM you my number. Very many thanks, Regards, Bob
  15. I have fitted a hydraulic pump that powers a H14 Superwinch and the system also has auxillery ports for tools to plug in road breakers etc. The system runs at 2500 psi @33.6 litres a min with full flow to its 1/2 BSP outlets. I now fancy putting a 110v system on to it. Is there anyone out there who has any experience with this type of system and where I could buy one. Many thanks, Bob
  16. I am just in the process of fitting a ex utilities set up to my defender, I have a question if you dont mind over the wing mounted spool valve levers. Does the winch lever only move once the PTO is engaged as it appears siezed in the cenre positon and will not move but the auxillery moved fine. I presume its a safety feature so the winch wont kick in if the lever was on retrect and you never noticed it when the PTO is engaged. Hope that makes sence. Thanks, Bob
  17. Thanks for the replys guys, the tank came with all the other parts as a full kit so it should be ok if plumbed correctly I would have thought. I intend to use the outlets rather than the winch, I want to run a log splitter off it so it will be long duration working so the cooler would come in handy. The winch was an added bonus but will probably see very little use. Thanks again for the replys. ATB Bob
  18. I am in the process of fitting a full hydraulic kit from a United Utilitys vehicle 110 Landy to a LR90. Most things bolt on with little fuss including Winch, pump, cooler. I have changed the front springs today for 30mm lift ones that now sits nice with the extra weight. I know the pipes will need shortening and I have that in hand. The tank will not fit in the rear wheel arch like they do with a 110 so I think that it will have to go in the back along with the spool valve set up unless some one has come up with a better idea. That is where I hope someone will come in with a good idea. I am thinking of making a box arrangement with the tank and spool valves in the rear footwell and the pipes going through the floor to their various destinations. Anyone have a better idea. I Hope so Thanks ATB Bob
  19. How have you gone on with the tank removal, I have one to fit and I am not really sure where it goes. It is also off a utilities vehicle. It only looks like it has four bolt holes down eack side of the top plate that bolt through the floor plate......somewhere. Any picys would be most welcome. Thanks, Bob
  20. The title says it all really, just trying to get a better understanding of what the part numbers are for g/box- t/box in case the worst happens and I have to buy a replacement down the line. Thanks, Bob
  21. Hello James, my winch is PTO hydarulically powered and is controlled by a spool valve lever arrangement., I have to re engage the drive which disengages the PTO. Is yours directly driven off the crank pulley. ATB Bob
