  1. Hi, I kept having this problem with the breather cap on my Turbo Diesel, there was negligeable pressure but the ribbed sealing ring just wasnt holding in place through age. As I was away on greenlaning trip, removed the rubber sealing ring, applied a couple of turns of insulation tape and then reapplied the rubber sealing ring. This solved the problem and although was only deemed as a temporary repair this was nearly a year ago and havnt bothered to buy new seal or breather. The cheapest landy repair you will probably ever have! Buy yourself an easter egg with the money you have saved!!!! Cheers
  2. Hi Guys - can you help? I have got a 2.5td 90 and have just replaced the engine with a rebuilt unit. On refitting the injectors I applied a new set of injector seals - Domed crush washers at bottom, and copper flat washers further up. When first fitted no probs and engine started well and ran beautifully. After about 300 miles the injectors started leaking with traces of diesel running down block from each of them and started to lose a bit of performance. Again I took the injcetors out ensured the old seals were removed and replaced seals with new ones. As before immediately fine and again pulling well etc but within 100 miles two of them have started weaking again. What am I doing wrong or are there any tips out there to stop this as if diesel is leaking it must also be sucking air hence reducing performance. Oh and when I fitted the lower crush washers the domed surface was fitted facing upwards Cheers Rog
  3. Could anyone who has a 19J turbo diesel with a hand throttle fitted please help me, I have been provided with copies of the parts manuals but really would appreciate a PHOTO of the cable where it attaches to the throttle linkages. I am looking to fabricate my own brackets over the weekend and would be very grateful for a picture to work from. Cheers Rog
  4. Hi Folks, I am the proud owner of a 2.5 tubo diesel 90 and have recently noticed that she is using/losing engine oil. Firstly believe it or not the engine is not breathing as have recently replaced the one that did that and have recon head, good pistons/bores etc as have only done about 500 miles since fitting. After looking closely appears that a very small amount of oil is coming from the breather hole in the bottom of the timing cover where their is a gauze and a wading plug that can be installed. My question is - am I looking at a failed crank seal?
  5. Thank you for the diagrams posted - These have answered quite a few questions. I have priced up the genuine parts and after I picked myself up decided its time to fabricate my own bracket to mount the clevis pin end of the hand throttle. Could I please ask if anyone could post me a photo of the linkage on their vehicle where it mounts to the throttle linkage on the injector pump. Thank you Roger
  6. Cheers for the Parts Guides, Dont suppose anyone can provide me with a photo of where the addittional cable connects to the injector pump linkages. Basically looking to fabricate my own as only have the cable and all the individual bits add up to a pretty penny! Cheers folks Roger
  7. Hi Folks, I have a Landrover 90 (1989) with the 2.5 turbo diesel (OK OK so i'm not proud!) and am looking to fit a hand throttle to increase the revs when winching. I have acquired the genuine land rover cable off flea bay for a couple of quid but have no diagram showing how the clevis pin end of the cable mounts to the accelerator arm on the injection pump. Is there anyone out there with one fitted who could kindly photograph it and either post it on here or email it to me on berwick.wacton@virgin.net. Alternatively a scan of the diagram from a book of words would suffice. Thanks in advance Roger
  8. Get hold of an Allmakes Accessory Guide page 59. (www.lrparts.co.uk) They do a specific rear winch bumper for the 90 which mounts onto the rear chassis member and still allows the fitting of standard tow hitch etc. Part numbers are - Pre 1998 - GWK 005 Post 1998 - GWK 004 I havnt seen one in the flesh or know how much but looks a pretty serious bit of kit. Hope this helps
  9. Hi Mate, I think I can answer your problem as exactly the same has just happened to mewith my 2.5td 90, sluggish turning of starter motor eventually dying before the engine fired but with a brand new battery, recon alternator etc etc. Basically decided to get shot of the starter motor and replace it. local garage did the work and on removing the old starter which turned out to be a prestolite (Rubbish) and on a test bed was drawing nearly 20v just to turn the thing with no load hence it was draining the battery down in seconds. New Valeo starter fitted, at the turn of the key now the motor spins into life and sounds more like a japanese motor!! I bet if you change your starter motor your problems will be over. Cheers
