  1. Hello, We also own a 1.8 petrol 1999 freelander, we had the same sort of problem and it was to do with imboliser, called RAC out pressed the key fob a few times cleared it. It still happens as problem is still there. hope that helps.
  2. Help, Owned Freelander 1.8 petrol for 14 months, allways had problems with imbolisher ie some times will not start till fob is pressed several times shown by RAC man. Allways lock with key as remote fob makes it worse. Since we have owned it the cooling fans come on straight away and do not go off and has a small misfire on tick over, had fitted new leads and plugs. In the last few days we have replaced the radiator, water pump, cam belts and auxillary belts with help of tame mechanic, bleed the systems ok as described started first time, but fans still coming on, yesterday did not want to start early morning from cold or late afternoon. Went to it this morning opened up with key lifted bonnet alarm went off cleared with remote fob checked levels oil and water ok started ok, fans ran for a few seconds left running fans stayed off (seems that the imboliser could have something to do with it). One thing that I noticed that it has allways comes up to temperature quickly, one thing to point out that when we bought it the head gasket had been done paper work to prove it. It has got us baffled any ideas.
