  1. You could cut sheets and weld them at the right angle avoiding the need to fold anything. Probably not worth my time, but as i say would give me something to practice welding on.
  2. Wonder where you could purchase the locks from....? Could knock one of these up myself and use it as an excuse to practice with the welder!
  3. I havent got as far as waxoyling the whole chassis on the 110 yet. I've done the rear third when i replaced the rear crossmember, but not gone any further yet. I'm currently going over the whole thing looking for holes that need welding up and have just one under the gearbox crossmember that needs cutting in and welding. Question is, what if more holes appear after the whole chassis is waxoyled? I know how flammable the stuff is and, in my mind, i'm worried that once i waxoyl the whole thing, any further repairs, if necessary (which is inevitable!), will be impossible in case it all goes up in flames. How do you guys get around this safely?
  4. I agree with much above really. My chassis on the 110 is quite good for 21 years. Did the rear crossmember last summer and plated a couple of holes on the bulkhead outriggers. Got one remaining hole to be welded up under the gearbox crossmember. Will waxoyl the whole thing thoroughly after that, but anything else major, and its gonna get a new galv chassis - you get the chance to take everything apart and re-build then and IMO, although a lot of work, if done properly you will end up with a vehicle in much better condition than the same money would buy. Better the devil you know and all that.....
  5. Fair enough Same advice all the same - go straight to Adwest since they manufactured the things in the first place!
  6. If its the seals on the steering box, general consensus seems to be that replacing the seal will only fix the problem for a few months.......
  7. Great programme. Makes me sad though at how we were world leaders with so many things once upon a time and i cant think of much where we lead at anything now.

  9. How can they insure modified ones fro so much less than the standard model? Are they heavily limited mileages or something? It doesnt make sense
  10. Squirt a bit of wd40 around on the bolts that need undoing the night before you do the job. The heat and welding gear used in kwik fit is usually completely unnecessary so dont worry about it. Otherwise i agree with Litch.
  11. I wouldnt let kwik fit anywhere near any of my cars! the sections arent expensive http://www.land-rover-parts-shop.com/shop/lrps/en/browse/Defender+90/2/0/7/19/30 and access is easy, so i'd do it myself.
  12. I've asked this before, no answer at the time, so will wait to see whether anyone knows now.
  13. I'm pretty sure its for a cooler - i'm sure i've seen that pic on here before. I have considered doing something similar as a cheap way of adding cooling to my transmission to effectivley keep my overdrive cooler by dissipating heat from the transfer box. If anyone knows where the pump kit comes from i'd loke to know.
  14. I had this on my 110 - only under very hard braking. There is no handbrake light (no switch fitted) or float switch in the resovoir that i could see - the fluid level was fine in any case. I had a thorough investigation and found a very slight weep from one rear brake cylinder. Replaced both rear cylinders and the light never came on again. My light was activated by the PDWA valve on the bulkhead picking up the disproportionate braking due to the slight weep from the back end. This leak was really hard to find though, so it might not be obvious at all.
  15. Been there whem it sucked up all the transfer box oil! Spewing out of the breather all over the engine bay!. Changing all of the seals solved that issue.
  16. I thought the gearing (ratios) is exactly the same on the R380 and the LT77s http://members.shaw.ca/red90/gears.html
  17. Cheers Ralph. I got that, it was the approx 600-700ml bit that caused the question. Without the handbook, i wouldnt have bothered anyone! Will check it tommorow after a run. Head is hurting now in anticipation of tomorrows hangover - the nightbus back from covent garden hasnt helped that at all - blasted trains werent running again!!!!
  18. Ah yes, but the question is, is the right amount to the filler level, or the specified amount in the book?! I'm going with the filler plug i think as any more than that has to be too much?
  19. Just changed the oil in my GKN overdrive. Got 520ml out and just over 500 back into it before it started coming out of the filler plug. It was on level ground, i filled it, took it for a short spin (about 3 miles both engaged and disengaged), got back and on level ground checked it. Nothing came out, added about 20ml and it was coming out of the filler plug again. The manual says to put in between 600 and 700ml. I know the amounts i put in are accurate because i used a graduated syringe. Question is, do i just check it again after a run (80 miles to my parents tommorow) and top up if necessary then forget about it, or park it facing down a slope and put another 150ml in? I guess there might be some stuck in there and its ok as i have replaced almost exactly what i took out.
  20. I've got a set like this for my 110 although the series bits were in there too. A load of the washers mentioned in the instructions were missing in mine. Might be worth chasing up with the supplier to check the correct parts have been supplied.
  21. The lower bolt that holds the gearbox casing to the transfer box is weeping EP90 on my LT230. Will PTFE tape put up with the temperatures and oil if i put this round the bolt to seal the thread or would i be better smearing the thread in instant gasket before i tighten it up? Thanks
  22. Mo - I think hes talking about the oil cooler, not the intercooler - (left side facing the vehicle) Sharpy - there is an oil cooler in the left side of the rad as you face the vehicle. If you follow the little pipe you have disconnected back, it should trace back to the oil filter area, so yes, oil there is normal.
  23. Hi Prith, Mine is electronic, so i have replaced the original gearknob with the GKN one which has a bitton on top. Does this help: http://www.roverdrives.com/installing_dx.html More here: http://www.rockymountainspares.co.uk/?p=73
  24. At what level of cover? Might be worth checking...
  25. Thing is, whenever i read any of the threads where anyone has tried to return anything faulty to them, you get the impression that they just dont care, so that is probably why they never respond.
