  1. sorry for bringing this up again... but just fitting my new britpart arches at the moment... I wanted these since the other wide arches are tough, and if you hit them there is a tendency to warp the wing since they do not flex so much. I also like their look...looks pretty standard, just a bit wider which works for me. bungled up the first front one...you guessed it... I cut the inner bit wrongly.... managed to join it together and make it half decent using cable ties.... but the biggest issues is trying to put them back together using both the new arch and the old part (filler) in the same hole and using the same plastic thing... the plastic rivet is not long enough and it does not fasten properly as instead of one layer of rubber/plasic (arch), you have the new arch and the old cut up part acting as the filler, sandwiched together and you need to fasten in the same hole. in the end I ended up just stuffing the filler part in there, and drilled a few holes in the metal inner arch (6mm) and used the same plastic bits to keep in place... seems to have worked... alternatively one can consider using some nut and bolts (maybe not in all the holes to at least fasten this filler piece in place so it does not fall off. will actually consider this, remove a few of the plastic rivets and use nuts and bolts and it should work fine. will see what happens on the other side... cheers
  2. I know that this is an old thread but any idea on how to this in practice pls? re aftermarket pins, mine did get grooved and have contacted the supplier ( a chap in poland) and he is sending another one...
  3. Tf 204 is the heavy front and rear..... Think it is too stiff for what i need as well.... Front should be ok but rears are too hard definitely....
  4. From their info i think that you will be better of with light duty on yours... I have heavy duty up front for now... And looks ok... Slightly firm but will pass... Rears i have to decide.. Now the heavy front are light rears so csn try those at the back.. But i think will be too soft.. Most prob will end up with medium at the back and leave the heavy duty up front
  5. Hmm thanks... Seems to be a hit and miss thing this....
  6. Hi, Wondering if anyone had had the same experience.. Want to fit terrafirma plus 2 springs to my defender.... But the whole heavy, light medium thing is a bit confusing... My defender is a 300tdi hard top with full roll cage, winch and bumper up front, the usual array of guards for protection and nothing much more. Did anyone fit these springs and has a comfy ride? I like the ride a bit on the firmer side but still comfy.. As in not a bone jarring ride, but neither having the suspension too soft with thr car going all over the place.. Anyone has an idea what setup i can fit? I am assuming that i need a mix between the front and rear such as heavy front and medium rear.... Thanks
  7. thanks to both.. will check them out
  8. Hi, would anyone have an idea on where to get a set of bushes that can be fitted in a set of Bilstein 7100 14 inch external reservoir shocks.. I need to find these from a European location since they exist in the US but the price of shipping for a couple of bushes is downright silly.. The heims that come standard with these shocks wear out very quickly and rattle like crazy... so if anyone has some experience with fitting a set of urethane bushes on these shocks and has any idea where to get them in Europe, I would appreciate.... before i bite the bullet and pay 50 USD of shipping costs for an 8.50 USD set of bushes.. many thanks
  9. Brilliant. Any idea of selling price please ? And would these be suitable for fitting bilstein 7100 series ? Bolt size i mean at the top Thanks
  10. Hi, will you be having these mounts for sale shortly by any chance? thanks
  11. absolutely brilliant... boss has to get me a new monitor this book is a must.. better than reading clarkson....
  12. I personally use the Garmin Mobile Xt on my nokia 5800... there is the option of OVI but i am not a great fan of it personally.. you are supposed to buy the Garmin program and maps but well.... (will stop here) at least it is a dedicate GPS programme... but you need the A-GPS in your mobile phone..
  13. I have the newer high output ARB compressor fitted and it filled a 33inch tyre with no worries whatsoever and in a reasonable time... however i think for such things an external tank will help a lot.. Mine has a 50% duty cycle and should run constantly for around 30 mins before cutting out... at around 60lts / min i think it does the job. I have easily inflated airbeds and other stuff directly from the compressor and it does the job... the smaller compressors are only really good for running arb's. whatever system you use if you want fast work you need a reserve of air i think...
  14. thanks to all for the input... bio is the one sold at the pumps, and made by an oil refinery here... so I am assuming that it is tested and done properly.
  15. thanks.. just want to clarify that I am will eventually be using around a mix of 20 Bio and 80 Diesel... that is the max i will go on bio... but as some said, the effect of the bio on the seals is a worrying factor...
  16. Good Morning all, here in Malta we have been hearing on the local press that due to the Ultra Low sulphur Diesel, a lot of older cars and some newer ones are having seal trouble in the fuel pumps, thus resulting in a couple of months wait to go see the diesel pump doc (there are only about 5 in total, therefore I think they must enjoy this since they are swamped with work) My 300 tdi rangie seems not to have been affected ( at least till now) and to be honest i have not heard of another one. My question is about the cam in the fuel pump. I have been told that the lack of lubrication will eventually wear out this cam, thus resulting in an expensive pump overhaul. Funnily enough it seems that my better half's disco td5 seems to run better on this ULS Diesel. What do you guys think. I have changed over to a mix of bio and diesel in order to restore some lubrication back in the system. Again I am not too convinced of bio to be honest, but my reasoning tells me that it is better than having to refurbish the pump... cheers ian
  17. Unless you are going for a dive bottle or something of the sort or else have on board air I think it would be worth using the Arb compressor anyway.. they come all pre-wired and if you look at the new hi-output one they have you can even inflate tyres direct from it in a reasonable time... i did get this one for the possibility of having an on-board air system in the future, which I will do when I get the chance to source/make a reservoir. I have friends who have used another compressor and then fitted it to make the ARB's work. But call me a traditionalist but they always seem to have some sort of trouble.. and not an isolated case.. The stuff that ARB use is good and heavy duty, plus since it comes with all the stuff you need to wire it up, it saves the hassle of running around to source parts and stuff... the wiring thing is a bit of an inconvenience since it let you put the front locker only where the rear is engage but is easily rectified but cutting/ splicing a couple of wires... good luck
  18. nice bumper... dont want to be cheeky but no one has drawings for an 8274 winch bumper by any chance
  19. yes here in Malta we have a number.... they had a hard top previously but reverted to a soft top for weight issues in competitions.. what they do is put holes in the tilt where the flanges are screwed together... have no pics at the moment but if I find some i will post them up for you.... I have also seen the same setup on half internal and half external cages... soft top is fitted then cage bolts on the flages as before but instead of a hard top, there is a soft top... holes are done in the bolt holes in the soft top...so essentially the soft top would have to be always used with a cage...
  20. Hi all seems to be a fuel problem.... funny thing is that it is erratic... and fuel seems to be coming out from the pipes in the appropriate manner. I have been told that there is a small gauze filter just before the carbs.... will give that a check out... otherwise i am rather lost replaced plugs and dizzy cap and that thing that spins around (forgot the english word since we call it the literal translation of a cockroach in maltese ) just to be safe as well.. thanks
  21. thanks Nige was going to check the plugs anyway but will give all the rest a look as well... coil is a lucas hi power (gold coil) just have to find the time.... thanks Ian
  22. Hi everyone having some problems with the V8 driving normally, then car goes off running on less than 8 cylinders, then backfires, with a flame coming out of the exhaust and a loud bang!!!!!! Now i know that the plugs might need changing since they have been there for some time however i am not sure that it could be the cause... Some people mentioned timing problems however it is intermittent so i am not too sure about that.. carb probs maybe? it is a stromberg carb high compression v8 (83 or so) and has a newtronic electronic ignition. any advice would be appreciated... thanks
  23. My 94 soft dash has the light grey trim in fact.. and soon have to go down the route of re upholstering or changing the thing anyway.... started sagging badly now.... I thought that there was an aftermarket option for them but reading snagger's post seems that there is not... ah well seems that trimming them again seems like a good idea.
  24. I think it is because you might have a Disco or range R380 with the t/c lever in front of the main gear lever. The defender one has the main gear lever in front of the t/c lever...
