  1. Thank you for your response guys. I have been looking over multiple posts but got a little confused over varied answers. So another thought. Supposing I had a td5 rear mounted fuel tank what fuel pump would fit into one of them for a 3.9 v8 defender? I only ask as I have a spare tank which looks better than the one I have off the 2.5na.
  2. Hi All. Hoping you can help. I have a 110 defender with a 3.9 v8 EFI engine going in. Used to have a 2.5 na diesel in it. Do you have any idea what the part number is for the defender v8 efi fuel pumps is. Also do we know if the fuel tanks are the same for the diesels and the petrol v8s? If they are different tanks, any idea what fuel tank to use? Iv never done a v8 before in a Land Rover so it has been a small learning curve also.
  3. Im putting the gearbox on a separate cooler. Ideally was looking to have the engine coolant and oil on the same radiator if possible.
  4. Hi All. Im installing a 3.9 v8 auto into my defender. Im in the process of modifying the chassis in order to fit everything required. I have looked online but there seems to be a few different things come up and I don't know which is right. Does anyone have any photos of a defender 3.9 v8 radiator and the mounts on the chassis side including measurements as to where they weld to. Also any measurements or part numbers for the correct radiator for this engine with oil cooler please. Thank you
  5. Hi all. does anyone have photos of where the 3.9 v8 engine mounts go on a defender chassis please. Just to help guide me. Iv looked on Google and there’s so many different ones which doesn’t help. Many thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks for the advice Arjan. No pics as of yet, but will be taking some. I’m picking the engine up this weekend. Very excited to get started.
  7. Brilliant. At least I know which way to go with it. Is the series 3 gearbox and transfer box used in any other Land Rover? Just so I know what I am looking for when buying.
  8. Pretty good then by sounds of it. Thank you Stephen.
  9. Ahhh. That would make sense. Thank you. Are the series gearboxes in your opinion pretty bullet proof. ? Some say they are but some say they rubbish. I was assuming bad due to not being maintained right or abused.
  10. Hi Bowie69. Thank you for your response, I think you’ve helped me previously also. I was looking at keeping the standard tyres on. Not looking to upgrade the power. However I was under the impression the freewheeling hubs are what turn it into 4 wheel drive when needed. Am I wrong there ? This would be needed. The 4 wheel drive I mean. There’s some pretty awkward obsticals at the minute to get to the fields.
  11. Evening everyone. I hope everyone is well and coping. I am about to start a build on a series 3 88inch. Diesel. I’m building as a gift for my mum who’s wanted one for a long time for when she moves to France and bomb about on the fields and roads now and again. im looking at building it properly. Experience wise I have rebuilt defenders and discovery’s but never a series. iv read different stories on the issues you can have with series vehicles. Never put me off though. I have a few questions. Can someone explain the issues with the front drive system and the locking hubs and is there a way round it. Apparently the diff and drive shafts are prone for breaking. apparently the UJ’s are not always up to the job. If so is it advisable to have cv joints and is there a kit for this type of thing ? We have a 2.25 Diesel engine which I will be fully rebuilding but no transmission as yet. Is there any recommendations you guys would advise to look out for or change along the way? any advice or things you would recommend to do along the way is welcome if you please. please no one put a downer on the project It’s something I’m looking forward to doing and want to do it properly and have it last. Iv never done a series before. many thanks in advance everyone Chris
  12. Hi Paul MC that’s great thank you. It did cross my mind earlier if that would be the issue. Thank you for confirming. Much appreciated. Thankfully I have a puma heated seat switch I can swap over.
  13. Hi all. Hope everyone is well. im hoping someone can help. So I have a discovery 2 spot lamp switch which fits in place of the blank spot up where the fog light switches go. I already have set up a aux fuse box one with a permanent live side and a side that only becomes live when ignition on. what I want to do is have the front spot lamps On a permanent live so I can turn them on at the spot lamp switch when I need them with out the ignition on. is this possible and how. Also does anyone know the pin set up on the back of the switches. There are 5 pins. it’s purely for usability when working and would rather be able to turn them on and not leave the key in the ignition when working ideally I want to be able to use the genuine switch as I prefer a normal genuine Land Rover look. Not aftermarket many thanks. chris
  14. The purge sequence is what I meant. Sorry. So I did that 3 times and it still wouldn’t start.
  15. Hi all. Need some advice please. I was driving home Sunday and my discovery cut out up hill. It started up a bit croaky and a bit smokey which I thought was weird but then felt fine. Was driving down hill most of the way then went up hill and slowly lost power and then stopped. Would not fire up. It cranked but wouldn’t start. The first thing I thought was fuel pump based on experience. I’ve changed the fuel pump for a new vdo pump this evening and bled it up 3 times to be on safe side. Went to start and it just cranked and wouldn’t fire up. Then made a beep 3 times. not normal. I stuck the hawk eye diagnostics on and it advised all 5 injectors open circuit logged. And can tx error has been detected. I cleaned the red plug of oil 2week ago. Checked tonight and it was clean. I checked the fuel cut off switch which was fine still depressed. I changed the injector harness on Xmas day too. can anyone give me some ideas please. Fuel filter was also done 2 month ago. many thanks in advance.
  16. Hi all. Apologies if i have missed any post about this i have tried looking. I have a M-reg 1995 discovery 1 300. It has the 1 button fey fob which i am attempting to program. I have followed the procedure of : Start with the ignition off and bonnet open with the bonnet switch pressed down. Then you have to complete the following sequence within eight seconds:-1. Ignition on - ignition off.2. Lock doors - unlock doors.3. Release bonnet switch.4. Ignition on - ignition off. Then, if alarm is set the horn will sound and the LED light on dash (in the middle of the dash under the radio compartment) will light. Now, the programming of the fob or fobs can begin.Press and hold down the button on the fob until the red LED flashes fast. When i do this the alarm does not sound and the led light does not flash. I have done this under 8 seconds and tried a number of times. Does anyone have any ideas. I have also checked to see if it required the later key fob being close the the change over year to the 2 button fob requiring the diagnostics to code it. It does not have any diagnostic socket. Any ideas of what i can try would be great? Also I have attached a photo of a socket i found under the glove box. Can anyone tell me what the plug is for? Thanks Chris
  17. Hi all. Im looking at fitting a winch mount to my Discovery 300. I love the look of the Discovery TD5 G4 challenge winch mount. I am wondering if anyone knows whether the G4 challenge mount would fit on to the front of my 300 Tdi. I am unsure of the dimensions of the chassis's on both vehicles so wouldn't know if it would similar. Or does anyone know if anyone has made a version to fit the Discovery 300. I do get that ground clearance wont be as good, but if they G4 challenge boys managed, I will too. I just think its different and better looking. Many thanks for your help in advance guys.
  18. Thats great thanks . Does the merc one fit with no mods ?
  19. Hi guys. Im looking to upgrade the alternator on my latest motor. 300tdi discovery. Wanting to do a few mods ect make it more mine. Youll all understand. Whats the highest output alternator everyone has fitted to theres? I have heard you can have a 140amp on a 300tdi. Has anyone done this an know where to get them from?
  20. Excellent thank you. Looks like it going to be something i do over xmas. Really looking forward to rebuilding and trying it out. Thank you.
  21. Hi all. So looking to buy a defender td5. Been shopping around to see what the latest mods are for performance gain. I have seen the VGT turbo on a few sites. Just a few questions. Whats everyones thoughts on them ? Is this turbo the same turbo as the ones already fitted just with different internals? If its the same is it possible or has anyone ever bought the internals and fitted them themselves, and if so where can you buy them? i enjoy stripping things down a and building myself like alot if you guys i imagine hence why i ask. thanks for your time
  22. Hi all. So im looking to buy myself a Defender 110. I know they have a 1.4 ratio transfer box. Iv decided to put in a 1.2 transfer from my old discovery 200. Never rebuilt a transfer box before. I have read up and decided to give it a go. Just wondering as i am a novice at this. Is there anything everyone who has done this recommends? im looking to put the limited slip diff from ash croft in and modify the casing for the cross pin. I know i will need to get a hydraulic press. Does anyone know what ton press is suitable for this sort of thing before i go buy? Any help and advice is always welcome. Thanks in advance. Chris
  23. Hey all. Im currently in the process of looking for another motor. Been thinking about 3.9 v8 discovery 1 . Just wondering any advice. What to look out for. Iv tried looking on here to see if there is anything so i apologise if i have. Ideally id like a v8. Iv always had diesels. Id like something with a bit more grunt ideally I know sometimes cams need changing from things i have read and heard. Are they fairly easy to do or is it a engine out issue? Just any advice is all i am after. Many thanks chris
  24. hey all, you'll have to forgive me I'm not formiliar with speed sensors, do td5 speed sensors on the lt230 side have a top speed reading? If it sounds like a stupid question i apologise but i just wanted to ask. thanks
  25. My plan is to use the vehicle everyday, but have a big engine and best performance out of a disco i can, i know it won't be the best but its something i enjoy doing and giving a go. Iv gone a long way with this vehicle folding mirrors upon locking, heated front and rear seats fully bespoke interior, heated front and rear screens the list is too long to tell you . Even a big american v8 engine when it get here, paddle shift you name it the discovery one has it. but my plan is to also make it light weight for when I'm using it both on road and offroad. At the moment photos are pointless as i only have a small garage to work in and parts are everywhere hence no photos. This was my first vehicle i ever bought when i was 15 year old, its saved my life due to a lorry crashing into the side of me and now I'm rebuilding it i want to do something different from what everyone else does. My biggest thing i want from it is fast road use, and fast offroad use, when it comes to competing which i won't be doing for a while due to health issue, ill change up the parts for now I'm working on lightweight on and offroad performance. Im sorry for the s/a guys hopefully it explains what I'm trying to do
