  1. agree that every business has to make money ,but what i cannot understand is why will they not say what the possible problem may be, if I decide and attempt to fix it myself and it go wrong then thats my fault. for example If suddenly the engine cuts out and will not start again , if they was to say may have ran of of fuel that would be a reasonable answer as would be fuel pump could be naff or fuel line is leaking.at least they are offing a answer ,it may not be correct but it is something what you can have checked. Again i dont beleive they do know the problem but will not let people know. if head , injectors or what ever then they should let you know . what may be causing the problem. like i have said in previous threads there is more than a few people with the same fault.
  2. Hi everyone ,Have spoken to god knows how many LR Dealers, with reference to my missfiring TD5. all of them will not divulge any information or even give me a clue to what is the problem, all I get is Get it in to us and we will link it to our test book which is far better then any other computer and let you exactly what the problem is.of course there is a small fee for this service, it varys from £50.00 + vat to £125 inc vat dependant on large the dealership . Now i know this is a well know problem on the TD5 more so on the Defender version.I just dont beleive that Landrover Dealers do not know the answer and i hate to say it but feel that the reason behind this is because if they did give the information they would be more warranty claims Then what they can afford.hence the Dont know attitude. I have come to the opinon that landrover should be praising all you guys out there for you advise and support you give to all LR owners ,because I am sure that if it was not for your support many LR owners would bin there vehicles and go for the jap makes instead. Sales would plumit and no doubt LR would probally start harping on how the british public do not back a british made product.(only LR nuts have LR's me included ) Sorry for the rant had to get it off me chest.
  3. thanks to everone for all your input, engineer as been out to td5 again check all what everyone as mentioned , looks like it could be injector/s .Engineer cannot do anymore to car until he has had go ahead from Dealer.Have sent the dealer a letter stating sort in 14 days or my money back.Shame I love the car when it runs as it should. fuel mpg seems heavy 18 -19 mpg.sure this linked to the missfire problem I have. Will callthe dealer tomorrow to see what they have intend to do to rectify the fault. whats been checked. ecu harness clean and dry no diesel in oil waste gate not stuck maf ok fuel pump replaced ecu software upgraded no faults or errors showing on diagnostics (thats assuming engineer telling truth,no reason to doubt him) cant beleive LR technical dont know what the problem is Have seem a few threads on the other forums as well as this one with other td5 owners having exactly the same problem but they dont seem to have the definative answer to this problem. its out there in the twigglett zone somehwere. will let you know if it gets fixed and try and find out what the problems are or is hopefully
  4. dont believe it engine missfiring again after 2 days of new pump been fitted .spoke to engineer who come on monday to have a look told me not to worry.easy said then done.also my S M are lit on the dash. engineer said error on gear box will check out on monday and let me know what is going on.I wil say this for the engineer he as always sorted my previous cars and LR's no problem even when the dealers could not sort them. Im sure he will give me a honest opinion on monday.Just so fed up of this now thought if i bought a car with low miles and full SH have trouble free motoring ,other then what gets broken when off road. ,is this someone i must put up with on the TD5 or am I just unlucky or lucky having the faults now while it is under warranty. wanted to go off road this weekend and check everything hill decent etc ,low box,air suspension. no chance now .Will have to decorate the bedroom instead. will let everyone know the outcome on monday.may have to start looking for another disco ,hope not like this one when its working right.took me a long time to find one that i liked.
  5. Hi everyone just to let you all know my td5 is now running great. alot better then it did before the missfiring started.Engineer as been today and fitted new fuel pump. Drives alot better now and i feel confident that he as sorted the missfire out. will know better in the morning as this is when it is really bad.he also mentioned about the harness to ICU and what to look for.only took hime 30 mins or so to change it.will post more info later o how he tested for the fault.
  6. hi I replaced floor in my 200tdi disco 6 months or so and it passed mot no problem.I was told the floor could be rivetted as long as it is secure .on the original floor it was spot welded. placed the rivets in the same locatation were the spot welds would of been.one thing about rivetting is that it is easy to remove floor for future work or inspections to be carried out and re rivetted again, advice i would give if you are going to rivett it is use a good quality rivets.
  7. Well the engineer has been and had a look at my td5 missfiring engine. got his box of tricks out link it up, guess what no faults at all reported or log .lifted bonnet up removed covers tapped into fuel high pressure line with pressure gauge and said fuel pumps naff .Did a few more checks and said fuel pumps naff and then did a few more checks with his box of tricks manage to get it running alot better but said fuel pump is naff and wants replacing.Explained when first start up the pump prime the fuel rail up to pressure but cannot supply fuel at the correct rate so engine will start to hunt. see pretty sure of the fault. so fuel pumps nackered by sounds of it. he will return with the new part and fit it later in the week. i will let everyone know if it cures the problem once fitted. will also post full symtoms on forum for future reference for all to browse. keep me fingers crossed again knowing my luck.

    help

just check the oil it appears to be ok no sign of diesel in it feels ok and does not smell of diesel.not checked harness as I may invalidate the warranty.got to wait until engineer turns up from dealer to check for that one. will have to wait another day. at least I know it is not the fuel leaking into the engine oil sump. will let all know the outcome when sorted .

    help

thanks for your reply just come off the phone with the dealer as said he would send someone out to it on monday.I have only had the car exactly 1 week. Will check to see if 14 day cooling off period applies. not to sure with cars etc.I have spoken to a few friends who are quite knowledgable with LR but they have not come across it before . I was thinking it may be a cracked ring once heat built up expansion is sealing the compression hence then running more or less ok when warmed up just grabing at straws now. nothing like buying a new car with a fault to get your blood boiling. should of stuck with me old 200tdi .
  11. Hi I replaced my disco 200tdi floor purchased it from Paddocks £45.00 + the dreaded . cheaper then trying to find a large sheet of steel to make a repair. I went for rivetts seems ok and I have removed the floor since to check everything before it went for a mot. just drill heads off and up the floor come. replaced floor and redo rivetts. must tell you when i originally removed the old floor the floor frame/ lip was badly rusted so made some more up and repaired frame lip before fitting new floor. go for it

    missing

Hi all me again just a quik question again regarding my td5 Disco , first time i start the engine in a morning it fires up no problem and runs smoothly and after 30 seconds or so it starts to run lumpy as if it is running on 4 cycliners as opose 5. if I depress the accelerator it seems fine. once warmed up appears to be ok. is this normal or as the engine got a problem were the heat which is generated curing / preventing it from being noticed. any help appreciated.

    bought it

Thanks everyone who replied to my question before buying my td5 disco auto. Well I bought it , it drives lovely, no warning lights (fingers legs arms crossed). Not driven auto for a while and find it a little frustating to drive around town as it always sounds as it is going to change up a gear but never does. I have been advised this is normal ?.Im not to sure maybe someone will confirm this for me. happy driving days to you all and thanks again to all who replied.
