hi if you do a disc brake conversion via the rr rear axle route make sure you get a later model axle with the shock mounts both facing the same way it saves a lot of work dont know about change over years though?
-
Hi all happy new year came to fit my rr rear axle for my disc brake conversion on 84 defender but have noticed the os shock absorber mounting bracket is on the rear of the axle is this normal or is it someones cockup on welding a new mounting onto the axle there dosent seem to be any sign of an old bracket that has been changed or cut off and the disc protector all bolts to it as well if this is the norm can you buy the brackets or do you cut the old one off a reweld cheers

hi cheers all for advice been doing a lot of thinking on this idea with your advice and more research it dosent seem to be as good as the makers claim ie they will work really well with a warm engine but i cant see them working great with a cold engine my original idea was to run a twin tank set up so if poss could you give advice on the set up ie do you use electric pumps to pump oil with simple flick switches in cab or is there a way to use lift pump from engine also do you still need to heat the oil in some way on switch over or will it run as is on a warm engine cheers
-
hi to all i was wondering if anyone has used the inline fuel heaters for running on neat veg oil the single tank system ie any probs with cold starting loss of power do they actually work sorry for lack of punctuation cheers all have a 200tdi from early disco in defender

hi everyone another small prob with my 90 brought it a year ago so had a few mods all ready done one being red polybushes in trailing arms if the landy is empty of gear it gives a really stiff ride once loaded it is quite smooth would the bushes cause this or would it be a combination of thinge ie shocks a springs which are all standard cheers
-
hi all starting to think i imagined the rubber bung in the workshop manual made lots of calls today to various engineers all have said the end crank is running in oil so i must have a perfect seal between engine a back plate as well as end crank a oilseal will fit tomorrow cheers for all the help
-
nice one will call them tomorrow cheers
-
hi dont know where to go from here except to land rover themselves i thought the only diffrence was turbo position on def a disco maybe its a design fault on discovery engine or a particular year cheers for the advice
-
hi cheers for advice there is a rubber seal either side of the end crank where you have marked in red the recesses with yellow the one in the middle has the hole right through to the sump about 8mm in dia i cant see any reason for it but the workshop manual shows a rubber bung to seal it
