  1. i realise that veg oil, used or new, requires a "refining" process to a certain standard to be called bio-fuel.
  2. dunno, old shoguns have heated ones too i think. i'll grab that complete one off ebay in my first link. comes with a new filter too as it could do with changing tbh.
  3. hmmmmm. you just fit that inbetween the head and the filter? that thread size correct for mine then?
  4. an expencive troublesome "swim" there then.
  5. these look good for the money. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250965645291?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  6. just last week it was on offer in tesco. 4.50 in 5l tubs. i bought two. so as not to look suspicious. but you could quite easily do the rounds buying two tubs in every tesco branches in your area. tax wise theyve been mucking about with the rates, i think you can use 2500l a year with out paying tax.... then its 27.1p tax on each l after that. think i'll get the heated filter thing and just carry on sticking a couple of tubs in a week when theres already plenty of diesel in it. maybe use more in the summer.
  7. as above... r plate disco 300tdi.... i've sprodically stuck the odd 5l tub of veg oil in the tank when its been on offer at supermarkets for 4.50 for 5l etc etc. with no ill effects so far. been wondering about running it more permenantly on new vag oil?? anyone else doing this? been reading up on heated fuel filters and the like to prevent waxing etc. so... people doing it, whats your vehicle set up and overhead costs..... more than anything advice??
  8. had an earth fault on mine where the cable from the battery to the body and then the chassis..... the stud on the body had rusted off. the body was being earthed thru the engine and to the body via the handbrake cable. was causing all kinds of wierd goings on. most notably youd start the car up, put the headlamps on, take the handbrake off and the lights would go dull. put the indicators on the radio would cut out and the speedo needle would drop out as the lights flashed on/off. handbrake lever would get hot too.
  9. what is it specifically that your wanting to do?
  10. ive been reading into this on ours and i have the same fault. except mine wont crank over. but if you try to bump in it still wont start. its very intermittent tho. when it faults the key immobilizer lights flashes on the dash. 7 out of 10 times it cures itself by dis and re connecting the battery. from reading on the internet i believe it to be a fault in the (previously mentioned) spider unit buried in the dash. i am yet to look into this myself on mine. http://forums.lr4x4....hp?showtopic=86 ^^^^^ read. sound likey?
  11. ours has the 2" lift. it wanders all over the road, but then the rear trailing arm to chassis bushes are knackard. just ordered them so we'll see if it cures it. i dont think the 85 profile offroad tyres are helping either.
  12. hi, been looking round our 1998 disco 300tdi today, trying to work out why the brake pedal wonders up and down when your braking. also why the rear axle feels like its floating around when you accelarate and brake (you have to correct it the line the vehicles takes with the steering wheel.). spotted the radius arm bush to the chassis on the passengers side is hanging out. so ive ordered two of them plus antiroll bushes. but brakes wise theres oil leaking out of the axle all over the brake discs/pads. i have all new rear brakes waiting to go on (bought for our previous disco but never fitted) -questions.... looking on the technical guides bit of the forum (excellent guides!) it doesnt look difficult..... but what seal/seals do i need? theres an inner and an outer hub seal listed on paddocks. do i need both? if gear oil is leaking out, it must have got out past both seals? does the inner go in the end of the axle tube sealing gearoil in the axle? and the outer on the back of the hub like a bearing grease seal? what could have caused this? theres no play or roughness to the wheel bearings.
  13. front prop u/js havent come yet. will need to use the landy on monday. if i took the front prop off and put the diff lock on would it still drive ok? how strong is the center diff lock?
  14. checked that wire. the single spade terminal? cuts straight out when you pull it off! was a loose fit but ive tightened up the spade terminal with some pliars just incase! never heard of that bearmach place before! downloaded the disco parts thing...... they are hardy spicer ones ive ordered from paddock.
  15. sedimentor??? im new to this landrover stuff! had old vws audis before this disco. where on earth do people buy these prop u/js? cant find anyone in sheffield that even stock them! not paying £33 each from guy salmon! ive ended up ordering them from paddock online, tho it doesnt say when their going to turn up? any ideas?
  16. well ive fitted a new fuel filter and after a few miles it seems to have cured it! next problem started with a squeeking then a cluncking on take up of drive and still squeeking! had a quick look under it today and the front prop u/j nearest the gearbox is falling out!
  17. hi chaps, looking for a little help diagnosing an intermittent misfire/lack of power problem. its a 96 n 300tdi with 114k on it, ive had it for a couple of months now. its seems to have developed a misfire over the last few days. it shows itself when you accelarate slowly in gear or pulling up a hill, the car shakes and has noitablely less power. doesnt do it every time tho. if you boot it and get the turbo working it goes like it should. im thinking its something on the fuel side. ive got no service histroy with it whatsoever (tho ive changed the oil since i bought it) think i might change the fuel filter as it looks old. questions? do the injectors need servicing/reconditioning? do the fuel dizzy pumps go wrong on these things? thanks!
  18. cheers for the advice chaps! if its only £60 a side for the repair kits then ill give it a whirl. its the first one ive been to look at yeah. my uncle used to have one like this till a couple of years ago... had 216000 miles on it! and he only spent money on it when it broke (preventative maintenance was not his "thing" lol). to say it was worn out, rotten turd would be an understatement! this red one was really nice tho. completely original (including the stereo!) was looking for signs offroad abuse couldnt see anything. only bit of ally corrosion i could see was a couple of bits on the rear arches and small bubbly bit in the recess round the rear lights. bit of a scuff on the plastic o/s front bumper and water in one of the front indicators. every panel was straight. think im guna go for this then. i cant see another one being any better than this one, from the ones i see on the local roads anyway!
  19. not in a saturday night fever sort of way tho. lol. im a new member, so hello! while ive been a mechanic for nearly 10 years, ive not really been around 4x4s much working at a german car specialist. been look getting a discovery to replace our lasses 06 jimny jeep. at the price range im looking at, ive figured out that i want a facelift 300tdi. went to look at this the other day..... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1996-N-LAND-ROVER-DI...%3A1|240%3A1318 ive done a search etc but..... is there a specific buyers guide on here for these? link? looks very tidy, seemed to drive nice....... was happy with it, so left a deposit! just got a couple of questions about it; both front swivels are a little pitted and the seals are leaking. what does a bad leak on these look like?? ive look at the repair manuals on here... doesnt look like alot of work and would be comfortable doing it myself...... but how much do you recon it would cost parts wise? also there appears to be a gear oil leak from the box/transfere box. there was definate wetness all around the casing and on the o/s chassis around the box too. there was also a corresponding drip from the leak onto the floor where it was parked. is this something to worry about? or do people with a similar leak just top up the level every month? above all, shall i try to drive him down on the £2k he wants for it??? thanks!
