  1. Sorry to hijack the post but where did you get yours from? Cheers J
  2. Thanks Mav, How can I find out, any tell tale signs its the pinion bearing I could look for? Cheers J
  3. Hi, The noise is a minor clunk when changing gear and releasing the clutch if I am clumsy but that I know is partly me . The noise I am referring to is a sort of rumbling whirring rattle (difficult to explain) I thought it was my jate rings vibrating against the chassis at the rear to start with and the sound magnifying through the chassis section but no luck. This happens when I come off the power and start to slow down; it seems to be worse sometimes than others. Is backlash a sign of imminent failure or just an indicator of a worsening chronic problem? If imminent could I fit a TD5 Disco rear axle as there seems to be a load of those about at reasonable money? Cheers J
  4. Hi All, I thought things were going too well.... I am having what I think are back lash noises coming from the rear axle on my 200tdi 90. The axles I think are from a TD5 however I don’t know if the donor vehicle was a Disco or Defender that was pre my ownership. The question is can the problem be fixed and how bad/difficult/expensive is it to rectify? Or is it a case of replacing the axle? Cheers J
  5. Hi All, Anyone recommend one/few gentle lanes near the Oxon/Wilts border? Taking the wife as she is trying to understand this Land Rover thing that "takes up all my time" Cheers J
  6. The pipes are push fitting but I cant see any way of getting the actual fitting out. Mine are just like this http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=44495
  7. Hi All, I was looking today at fitting my new breathers and want to replace the standard push fit type fitting with the more durable right angle ones I have got. I have had a look at the fitting but cant see how you extract it, that's the fitting not the pipe by the way. Any tips J2j
  8. Well after finally getting the bolt grip far enough onto the stupid tapered bolt it turned off quite easily The bolt was pretty rounded though so I am quite impressed with Irwin Bolt-Grips
  9. True..most crooks I encounter (the art worlds full of em) don't relish giving out their phone number or address for that matter.
  10. Yep I take your point.just a thought as to why they may have asked.
  11. Hi, I fitted gas rams to my bonnet and was horrified at some of the prices of the rams. I opted for some from a company that makes motor homes and burger wagons and sells the stuff they use on their vehicles. If you find out the strut size you need you could save a wedge Good luck J2J http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=75365entry648323
  12. I know you can make your own but sometimes its nice not to have to source all the bits for a kit its nice just to buy one and done with..or not in your case If its any help I have just bought a kit from these people and they were fine http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370627997150?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1998wt_982 I hope you get sorted out James
  13. Those trailers are as you know the fastest item to get pinched. Perhaps the prospective buyer wants to check with the police if its nicked, not suggesting anything by the way . I don't know if there is a national database or something?
  14. I have got it.... to stop this happening start on the last bolt first J2J
  15. Well on Sunday I fitted my new steering pump (ntc9070)and both drive belts while I was at it all went well and I even managed to stay dry lying underneath the 90 …Until I decided to increase the tension on the pump belt and one of the bloody silly tapering headed flange bolts rounded like it was made from Cheddar…bugger. However checking again the deflection, I think it’s right at about 10-12mm so no need to undo that bolt yet but I have just got some of those IRWIN Bolt-Grips and hope they will get the damned thing out. Why do they fit the pump with seemingly tapered headed bolts, the flange bit I can understand but tapering what’s that about?
  16. That looks very tidy. Mine seems to be constantly covered in oily hand prints and bird poo! Oh well I suppose it adds to the patina . Just out of interest is the chassis very ropey then as the truck looks for as much as you can see from an image as if its been looked after?
  17. As somewhat a novice oils are often a bewildering area because sometimes the manuals are suggesting one thing and the greater consensus another. I suppose specification and formula change and develop from the date of the publication of the manuals. That's why I like to check and find the forum so much help, Thanks Guys
  18. I have decided to change the oil in the gearbox and transfer box of my 200tdi (engine is early 90s vintage) am I right in thinking ATF for the gearbox? Its an LT77 I think, I don't know if the same oil is used for the transfer box? Cheers J2J
