  1. Hi Guys, We're currently looking for a series 1 landy for our wedding car. Does anyone have a good condition S1 with rear seats (SWB or LWB) which they would be interested in helping us out with? We are more than happy to pay an agreed figure! If not, does anyone know of someone who might have one? Our wedding is in Peterfield, Hampshire UK and the reception is in Farnham on the Hampshire Surrey border later this year. Thanks for any help, Graham + Dani
  2. Many thanks for all that & posting the walk through. I'm going to give it a go this week. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks, Graham
  3. Sounds good. Does it need any special tools? The workshop manuals talk about pullers and pins for the crank shaft - can I improvise with something else and diy pullers? If so I will give it a go after you post the thread. Edit: what size socket do I need to obtain to undo the crank shaft bolt?
  4. Hi, I've got a 1986 landrover 90 with a leaking diesel injector pump. I've picked up a second hand reconditioned injector pump (from someone who had it reconned then sold his landy before he fitted it) I need to fit it, but not sure how to go about it/what tools I need. I've done most other tasks on the vehicle but not ventured near the cambelt/pump area. It did have it's cambelt replaced about 5000 miles ago so hopefully things shouldn't be to tight. I've got all the gaskets I think I need, but not got any pullers/pins and would like to do this on a reasonable budget I already have the front of the vehicle off as i resoldered the radiator ad don't want to put it back on just to pay a garage to take it off again! Any info (or if anyone knows of a jobbing mechanic in south hampshire who can come and do it) would be great... Graham
  5. thanks guys. I was hoping it would be nice and easy. In my lightweight I recall it involved removing the wings - not done that for a few years now. (Needs a new engine, so its sitting in the corner looking sorry for itself)
  6. I've phoned a radiator repair place in slough I found on google, and have been quoted £15+vat to get it sorted. Just got to get around to removing the radiator now. I take it that it is a pretty straightforward job to remove? Not taken it out on this landy before.
  7. Thanks guys, i'm going to check out getting it repaired if not i'll think again. Haven't had chance to get a good look at whether it has an oil cooler or yet yet. (it's currently stuck 70 miles away at my parents house!)
  8. oh right. According to paddock neither have the oil cooler - although on closer inspection they have the same part number (ESR3684) listed for with oil cooler. as well as esr78 is with oil cooler. I will check it out to see which I need. Many thanks, Graham
  9. Fair enough. Time to save a bit Anyone know the differences between ESR79 and ESR3684 - both listed for the 2.5na diesel, but with over £100 difference in price? Graham
  10. Hi, I was just opening up my radiator to fill with antifreeze for the winter, and it didn't like me trying to undo it, and the threaded bit of the radiator came off the the filler plug.... Any ideas what I can do to sort this out or is it time for a new radiator? Graham
  11. I'm glad to get it out the way. I'd say definately easier than changing the whole bulkhead - only having to remove a few easy items (half of dash, windscreen, vents and bonnett) saves a lot of work. There's still a few small holes left in inconspicuous/non-strength places (top of vent area) that i've rust converted and going to use to inject waxoyl, then seal up with sealant. I would definately recommend welding up for a cheap and quick fix to last a year or three (assuming this lasts:) Assuming you can weld/have a good friend who can weld it for free of course
  12. Thanks guys, did the work over the last two days. Turned out to be pretty easy. Worst bit was getting the doors back on and aligned (the captive nuts had to be opened out for the extra bulkhead thickness) I've done it hoping it will last for 2 - 4 years before replacing the whole bulkhead for new. Just got to waxoyl now. Some photos... Passenger side very rusty Rust cut out and being cleaned up Driver side not so bad Internals all rust converted with Kurust Repair panels cut to shape Clamped in for welding... Welding it in! Passenger side partially welded, with extra metal fabrication beginning. All primed and drill for windscreen hinge... Thanks for all the information!
  13. A bit late I know, but I got 3 metres of 3" bore coil wound rubber hosing from http://www.parishose.com/ Cost about £12/metre. Just give them a call or drop into their trade counter (which I did) They sell it by the metre. I wrapped it in butyl liner (as used for ponds) wherever it was vunerable to thorns/sharp landrover edges. They are officially trade suppliers I think, but they were more than happy to serve me! Graham
  14. It seems mm4x4 don't carry a snorkel for a 2.5na. The one pictured is a misprint and is actually the Safari Snorkel for a 2.5na. and wildly expensive. I'm going to send it back and probably order one i've found that's produced by ServiceTune.
  15. Well I ordered the snorkel - and they sent me the one for the later models - the style that replaces the side vent, not the one pictured with the cut out exit. Going to phone them tomorrow and get them to replace it! Graham
  16. Yep, thanks for all the help - once the snorkel arrives - hopefully soon as the money has been taken from my account, so I assume it was dispatched on friday - I will get some pictures of the kit and once it's installed! Should have my new wheels early next week as well, got the tyres yestarday - Kumho 235/85 Venture MT on 16x7s:) The vehicle is beginning to get more capable! michael calvert> Try http://www.acronymfinder.com/ . handy website
  17. Thanks for that advice - I ordered the mm4x4 one, not the mantec, so it'll be interesting to see what the kit comes with in regard to air hose. I hadn't thought of sealing up the air filter, thanks! I'm heavily into keeping fish so i've got loads of various water tight sealers/glues around, i'll give some of them a go. Can the heater be damaged by water entering over the wing? I have a hard learned respect for water already - this was caused by sending my lightweight to fast into to deep water without a snorkel. (2.25 petrol) It's not deep wading i'm after in particular, it's more extra protection from flying mud/water over the winter on offroad days, the normal air intake position seems very vunerable, and I have already found a tiny bit of mud in the bottom of the air filter, and that was from a dry day in mid summer being very careful!
  18. Ordered it this morning! Thanks, Graham
  19. Fair enough! I'll order one in the morning. There doesn't feel like there's much room around the heater box for the piping to go through, so i'll have to wait and see the kit to see how the piping snakes round everything! I was expecting one to look more like: (thats the £200 mantec though! - there's aloads of room where that would go in + right next to the air filter) Thanks for the advice, Graham
  20. Thanks - I have looked at that one, and phoned them to check (as so many don't seem to fit the n/a) and they claim it wouldn't fit my landy ('86 n/a diesel) not convinced the person knew what they were talking about though! My landy is one with the vents on top of the wing and and air filter at the front right hand side wing (looking at the vehicle from the front)
  21. Hi, Can someone recommend a not to expensive snorkel for a 2.5n/a diesel 90 - pretty much all the ones i'm seeing either don't fit a 2.5n/a or cost getting on for £160 - £200. Graham
  22. Possibly sold origonally. Sh@gged/Scrap better description now:) New transfer box going in tonight, picked it up last night! Graham
  23. Thanks, that's probably it! The bulkhead is going to be done in early october - my friend who does the welding is a ships engineer and doesn't return until then. I've already started rust converting and grinding it back a a bit to see what it's like now.
  24. Hi, Sorry for all the questions recently guys... many thanks for all the advice:) Just cleaning up/stripping out my old transfer box ready for replacement, and found a big yellow S painted on the top of the box. Any idea what this means? I've had a good google and can't find anything referenced. Graham
  25. No problem! Just got one on ebay for £35. Going to pick it up tomorrow and install it tuesday. If that one turns out to be a dud after I install it I'll be interested! Thanks, Graham
