  1. Either take off the hook or wrap it rags and zip tie them on, and then ( whilst the enemy is not around) chuck them in the washing machine on a cool wash with half a tub of washing powder. and dont get to near it when it goes into fast spin, you will think the machines going to explode, and "hey presto" 30 minutes later - one spotless rope..... Top tip - Make sure you wipe the door seal clear of any grit/mud to get rid of any evidence that lets them you know how to use a washing machine..... Easy innit?
  2. Steve, there are loads of lads up and down driving "Challenge trucks" but they don't want to use them. We were running the "Challenge North West" but a lot folks didn't want to commit, which as an organiser is murder. They wanted a turn up on the day sort of event, which is nigh on impossible to run, finantially, setting up, choosing sites, caters, camping, putting barbeques on etc, all sorts of proplems. We had aimed to set a 25% easy, 50% normal'ish, 25% difficult ratio of punches to try end encourage new folks into it and keep the vets engaged, we saw a few new ones come along, but not what we had hoped for and we constantantly sought feedback to try and evolve to what people wanted. But it was a lot of mither, not a lot of support (from the club) so we ran it for a second year and stood down. Hats to organisers and teams who do put in the hard work, they are all diamonds. Boothy
  3. After years of breaking pegged diffs, Ashcroft C/W's, shafts, C/V's and 2 ARB's (late ones) on my Supercharged 38.5" tyred V8 challenge motor the best thing by far I ever did is fit a pair of Patrol Y61 axles, complete confidence...... Saves me carrying a trailer full of spares and gives me the confidence to "nail it" where in the past I was always on tenderhooks at times.... No brainer for me......
  4. It the usual view of my motor - upside down. I have no idea why it always puts them upside down, perhaps somebody with more brains than me could educate me or even do the dirty deed.... But it does leave me a 7 peak belt that 2418mm long, useful for a tow rope.....
  5. Trust me, my V8's on Megasquirt and it's Supercharged and it's certainly very capable and very used to being revved a bit, a bit too much some will say, but the whineing up the snorkel sort of pulls you in a bit........
  6. I used a Glyn Lewis bracket on my V8 for a second alternator which charged a pair of Optiima yellow tops which powered my winches. These were were completely seperate from the vehicle 12v supply (because of volt drop etc when winching hard), but what i did do is power the 12 excite winding to the 2nd alternator of the vehicle supply via switch, this enabled the winch alternator to just spin on its bearings and not take any load of the engine when it wasnt required, it worked a treat, there was no point in charging away when just driving around or whatever, and you could certainly hear the engine note change when it was activated. Another money saving idea.....
  7. 1st July 2006, my how things have changed... There used to loads of old men moaning about things..... In fact...... I'll go with the flow.....
  8. Well noted Mr Conway, buts that is the normal way that I see it, and why are you up so early???? Sorry folks for some reason - probably because I'm dim, I have manage to post the same'ish photo upside down twice. Also for the more astute amongst you may notice that the belt is bypassing the charger pulley, this was because the coupling adaptor was rattling its head off and I used it to do a competition the next day, so decided to do it with charger in place but just revolving itself in the airstream. I was just trying to show the rear throttle body was that I have used.
  9. This was prior to the finished result in my set up. I used an adapted Ford Lightning inlet jointed to a Range Rover throttle body, it gave me the perfect throttle sensor, size and shape for my snorkel arrangement, my kickdown / accelerator cable was kept simple and standard'ish, removed the need for a dump valve and finally kept it simple for stupid. Big bonus - sounds awesome.....
  10. I torqued my ARP studs down to 70ft/lb on my Supercharged engine, no problems at all....... Use the grease/ paste that comes with them though.....
  11. Been reading this and resisting posting. I have owned Series 2a's, a series 3, Discos, Range Rovers, a Nissan Patrol Y60 4.2 LWB turbo and presently a late Toyota Land-cruiser 100 series 4.2 24 valve TD, amongst over 30 odd other cars over the years The Patrol is the second best machine I have ever owned, but nowhere near a good as the Land-cruiser, but £2.5K will probably only buy you a breaker so please don't rate that against a cheap Disco. The modern Land-cruisers are awesome for towing, getting across rough land, or as a daily drive perhaps lacking all the luxury items of the new Range Rovers but those that are fitted do continue to work for years unlike our British machines. The majority of motor traders hate Ranger Rover or Discos because of giving warrantees or dealing with companies that make warrantees simply uneconomical to supply. The problem with the big Japs is the price of spares and as they reach there twilight years thats normally when they are going to start to need them, the beauty of Disco's is the availability of cheap spares. Sorry boys but I love my cruiser as a daily or as tow vehicle for my Challenge motor, it simply gets on with the job with no fuss or drama.
  12. Thick Hydraulic hose, bomb proof and you can bend it and hit it with an hammer.
  13. Simon I fully agree, I think its a great show, great venue and it gets me inspired ready for the start of the season. From a competitors and I suppose now also an organisers point of view, its great to walk around and meet folks with no stress or last minute panic going on and see what they look like when they're not covered in mud, and the missus sometimes goes for a change, to keep her eye on the budget I think. And its only hour away......
  14. I've spent the last 6 years or so up to my neck in water regularly and the only problem I've ever had was water ingress into the MAP sensor which was due to the the inlet tract getting wet, apart from preventing ingress into the 'V' which is a whole new ballgame. Now I don't use the MAP sensor anymore "happy days", I power-wash my enclosure following every event (its on the bulkhead inside) without any panic, and just get on with it, like Fridge said earlier your looking for a problem that doesn't exist, you may be thinking of a winch off against a Trident submarine - forget it, stick to mud. Incidentally Fridge - motor on roof = find something to use centre winch on - right it - start it - and carry on, expert at it.....
  15. Right Gents Postcode to a house next door is ST7 3PW But here goes anyway From Biddulph stay on the A527 towards Congleton, you will just as your approaching the outskirts of Congleton go under a bridge (Staffs/Cheshire border) keep going for approx 1 mile until you arrive at the traffic lights, turn left into Leek road, take the 4th left turn (just before Railway bridge) into Moss Road. Follow Moss Road past garden centre round right hand bend and you will see another Railway Bridge turn left into Mow Lane along side tracks and keep on this road to site, you will go past Horshoe Inn (fine country pub) up the steep bank and site is at top of the hill (just where it opens up) through gate on right. A34 Congleton to Kidsgrove road, turn at Astbury Church (big Church big spire near pub called Edgerton Arms) there is a big green triangle of land with a small garage on junction. Up past Church, ignore small right turn into house's and take right fork at the junction (with house in middle) this called Dodds Lane and keep on over Canal bridge until you reach the end which is where it meets Mow Lane (just over Railway bridge) turn right up past Horseshoes Inn (dam fine country pub and still is) and up bank to site as above. Lads that is really the only ways to site with a trailer, caravan or lorry, If you approach from the other way you will have to go down past the site and try to turn around somewhere. Who needs Multimap........ We aim to start scrutineering after 8.00am and start at the latest 10.00hrs this will bring a finish in daylight for possibly the last challenge event on the calender. Its given out some great weather for the weekend, could you also make sure you please bring a bin-bag to remove any rubbish you may produce as it is working farmland with livestock back on there the day after. Thanks for your support. Chris
  16. Well Ladies and Gentlemen its just a few days to go before the 4th and final Round of the AWDC Challenge North West 2014, which will be held at Mow Cop near Congleton Cheshire on the 19th October. We are looking at a large number of enteries so make sure you let me know either by phone, PM, email, message or post, to avoid dissapointment. As always we are totally dependent on the volunteer marshals who are vital in making these events function properly, so can you also let me know. Those of you who have been to Mow Cop before will know of its ability to provide a great site with just about everything that can be thrown at a motor. Usual great camping and plentful parking on good ground, one of the best views in the area with Cheshire as your picture, toilets, usual "off the cuff" entertainment by the team, couple of great pubs nearby (for those that need one), and a huge friendly welcome to what should be a fun competitive weekend. Good "crack" saturday night with a good old chin wag around the fire. You know the legend by now - "by competitors - for competitors", please do support us. We are also keen to know your suggestions for next year, so don't be shy with your ideas please. Chris
  17. The post code WV16 5LS is for the Halfway House pub which is half a mile north of the site, you can see it on the streetmap above, this means we are half a mile south of the pub. I am told they do B&B if anyone wants it or there is also the Downs Inn which is approx one mile away.
  18. Yes, its nots so difficult to find, I will put some details up soon, and its a good site to spectate....

  20. No its not road legal AFM ties in great to the squirt and calmed it down because it then got a steadier reading Wastegate, never considered one Belt is useful as a tow rope if it ever fails to run, its certainly long enough But when I back off my hols I will find a way of putting a better photo on p, because most folks think it looks better the standard factory installation of things, without sounding cocky it does sit in there very well and is nice and easy to work around. Off on my cruise now......
  21. Cannot figure out why the photo's upside down, but we are just in middle of going out. Stand on head, cant find figures but from memory about 370BHP and 380 Ft/Lb torque but torque was proper high and flat from about 1500rpm, but don't shout I will have to dig the paper out to have a proper look. I've just noticed on the photo thats the belts not around the pulley, its a photo I took in the initial build and when I put the second alternator on I had to get a longer belt.... Its on now din't panic. Cheers Chris
  22. Sorry 6psi not bar. The AFM was fitted because of the differnt rate of air going in made it very difficult to get an even tick-over. The conversion was quite simple and is a very neat job. V2 Megasquirt and it was on the rollers at Bailey Performance at Broseley near Telford, Dale who runs it knows Mega squirt inside and is an absolute gent, who is not expensive and a pleasure to spend time there, plus he will work for cash... Yes its bolted directly to the manifold, and its been on for about 18 months now, the only problem being that a hard plastic coupling inside the nosecone broke and I had to replace it with a modified one, and there is a nice whine with it. I'll have to trawl through for the figures I'll edit them in.
  23. My supercharged Rover V8 Challenge motor is awesome.... 4 Litre Cross-bolted, Offenhouser manifold cut to accept the fabricated and welded aluminium adaptor to suit the Eaton short nosed titanium shafted M112, running at 6 bar boost, via Mega squirt, Transit Air Flow Meter, Ford Thunderbird throttle and then a nice tune on the rolling road. Awesome as they say, sounds sexy, just a great conversion that actually sits in the valley using one 6 rib belt to drive everything including 2 120Amp alternators, a modified power steering pump to driver the hydro steer and a crank shaft driven 60cc hydraulic pump for the hydraulic winches, and to top it all off the charger sits lower than the standard Plenum chamber does, hows that.
