  1. digga digga digga digga dunk, digga digga digga digga dunk, "My TD5's run on 4 all year"
  2. Is that young Dibnah ?????
  3. Ian, the clues in the credits "by Glaggs" he's the marshall with Glaggs on his number plate on the green Suzuki thing,,,, Don't know how to contact him but Neil or somebody may point you. Cheers Pal.
  4. I don't think I will be there until Sunday morning, early doors, due to the fact I've only got a diff in my front axle, no shafts no C/V's etc at the moment following a few breakages at the Howlin Wolf, after speaking tothe suppliers just, they willbe in the post tommorow expect them Fri poss Sat, we'll see. Is there a beakfast available or is it Mac D's in Chesterfield or what?????? Man needs to eat
  5. Well a good weekend , well done to all involved, loved the one way systems with the 2 punches in them but I think it would have been a diffent story with a full compliment of 40 vehicles, all with different abilities and speeds stuck in them,, Night stage's were good fun, but long and tiring and went on a bit late, and I didn't sort of associate the significance of the points accured by them, and again imagine 30+ vehicles on them. Once again I put the tent on a slope again which was murder, I hate camping with a passion. Broke a front C/V or shaft half way through the day which slowed us right down, we were sort of flying until then. And thanks to John Fair for giving me the miss-placed reassurance to go for a punch I knew I couldn't get to with no front drive and for only smiling when I got stuck afterwards, I owe you one pal. Great weekend, as always superb Marshalling and thanks again. Chris
  6. Just hope my motor survives the Howlin Wolf this weekend and my foots still killin' me Matt, but the breathings improved somewhat thankfully.
  7. I think the Neil asked why EX-competitors were not entering this year and was looking for a constructive answer, he asked, they answered, On the subject of scrutineering I don't think anybody can moan or argue, they are VERY fair and offer constructive advice, and at the end of the day if a scrutineer pointed out a defect on my motor that I had overlooked as a possible health risk or a danger to anybody near to it, then I think I should be shakeing his hand for saving me a possible misshap. There are a set of regs that were written for safety and everybodys welfare, they are easy to read and understand and should be adhered to, it's not rocket science. See you at the weekend. Be ready
  8. Neil, A few of the usual suspects (at least 3 as I know of) have not finished building their new machines yet, one I know of hates water and night stages, another one wrecked his motor on the XTC, so on the whole it probably looks worse than it is. Saying that I cannot find much power out of my new engine yet, looks like it may be valve timing, but thats tomorrows job. Is the camping area still as it was or has that been dug upas well ???
  9. I use Triumph Vitesse / Herald outer sealed beams, which have sidelight clearings and dip/main beam, cheap as chips small sealed beams, Why sealed beams Boothy ??, Oh come on think about it boys, they will never fill full of dirty water when doing Challenges etc, because they're sealed. carp lights but they will do the job and perfectly legal and practical, and Gordon you tight git, they're cheap too. See you soon. Chris
  10. Neil, due to unforseen complicatitions I will be using Dan Thomas as a co-driver, Our Thomas has booked to go to Dublin for the weekend and managed to get his dates wrong. So the theme of "speed and youth" continues.......
  11. I own a 4.2'ish Megasquirted ARB'd, Ashcroft'ed, Simex'ed, 100", all singing all dancing Challenge truck, which I tow around the country with my 1996 Nissan Patrol GR Turbo dielsel, autoboxed, difflocked, Patrol Y60 Trust me the Patrol will pull the chassis rails of your beloved Landrover, don't risk it. The only thing the Patrol will not pull is a women, they're pig ugly brutes but very very good at what they do, consistently and more so reliably. When you get fiddleing with the Patrol they are very similar but like a Landy on steroids, everything's huge from shafts to CV's, propshafts are humungous, tranfer box is massive, front diff holds 5 full litres of EP90, just very very solid, But is doesn't have a heart or a character like a Landy, you respect it but don't love it, but seriously it would pull America behind it if had a 50mm ball on it. For work Nissan Patrol LWD 4.2 TDi, for pleasure, without shadow of a doubt Landrover (anything), and I have quite a few Series, Disco's and Rangeys, petrol or diesel.
  12. I rebuilt (with a mate) and coverted to fit, a Jaguar 4.2 autobox, which is a 4hp22 into a Range Rover casing, exchanging the output shaft, valve block, pump, and governer to the more suitable Range Rover ones. Reasoning, Jags usually have a very easy motorway or golf course life, are not normally thrashed around some quarry on play days when they have outlived their road worthyness before they are broken and sold, not many have a tow bar fitted, the shell usually rots around a low mileage engine/box, most breakers don't know what they're worth because they rarely sell one, so a low mileage bargain is to be had if your carefull. Its now done about 3 years of hard challenges on 35 inch Simex ET's and is mated to a big V8 that's certainly had some revvy hard work and has performed faultlessly. But as an assurance I have in my garage a brand new, never even had oil in, ZF 4HP22EH which I came by, absolutely spanking new, but I daren't sell it because the moment I do the other one will no doubt go bang. Like the boys keep saying, get a big NEW oil cooler with a fan on it, so that it cools when its working in the swamp and its standing still winching. At least what ever you use has half a chance if its kept cool, chances are you will never use all those BHP's and torqueys anyway. Good luck and look forward to seeing it.
  13. Whatever it is, it doesn't look to have a very big capacity, the water jackets are not massive suggesting it wasn't sporty or high revving and looks to have been heavy by the amount of metal in the block. Is it some sort of diesel powered boat engine, or something out of a Thwaits digger/dumper or similar ??? We could start a sweep, at a "tinny" a guess.
  14. Nige, Whilst you have the axle sat there on the bench it is a fantastic time to add some additional strengthening/welding to the ball joint braket, which is not the strongest of fabrications in the world in its factory finish. I have ripped a couple off or caused some quite significant distortion to them, so now is a belting time to give it a bit of additional welding and strength. Pity about spoiling the paint job though, oh and try opening your eyes next time you weld,, you get a much better finish,, top tip that,,,, Anyway off to bath the ferrets now.....
  15. Now when my mate did this after few minutes he was then suffering with high blood pressure as well, he's actually a diabetic, amongst other things
  16. Ho ho ho ho ho hoho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho, you dropped one there didn't you, a TD5 on 4, well done, plug sooty was it, or perhaps the rotor arm ????????? Told you engage brain before openening mouth, it will come with age, Junior, And your partenership with Barney looks as stable as Cheryl & Ashley Coles photo album looks full. What does a 4 cylinder TD5 sound like ??, Digga digga digga digga DUNK, digga digga digga digga DUNK, digga digga digga digga DUNK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Made my day Shorty, thank you
  17. Could you put me down as hopefully doing all rounds please Matt, I've had a longer mantlepiece
  18. Not wishing to have a go Matt, but could we have the year right please.
  19. Thanks, I'd thought I'd lost it earlier when it vanished. Old age
  20. Dave, Thanks for the reply, I helps a mile confused me a bit this one because I could have sworn I posted it but then I lost it, looked in my posts and it wasn't there, so I re-did it after my Lamb dinner and low and behold in appeared in here just after I put in back in International an hour later. Definitely getting older
  21. Hey up I'm just in the process of trying to improve my poor braking effiency in my Challenge motor, and have just obtained a 2007 Td5 servo and master cylinder, Question is, on the original defender one the front brakes were both fed of the servo end of the master cylinder by a pair of independant lines and the rear calipers from the front of it to a t-piece on the rear axle. No bias or load valve fitted anywhere, its purely off road only. So, which is which front to the front, or rear to the front ??? On the new Td5 the twin pipe outlet is a the front end of the cylinder and a single feed at the servo end (the opposite way around), the Td5 master cylinder is much shorter and stubbier than the defender one, and cheaper built by the looks. I have renewed all the discs and pads on several occastions, tried 2 brand new master cylinders, renewed all the pistons and seals on the front and rear calipers, the fronts are the 110 single piped monster ones, the rears being standard single piston and pipe Range Rover classic calipers. The vehicle is aero-quipped front to rear and in theory should hurt your eyeballs when I brake but doesn't, so it's servo and master cylinder together this time, and yes the vacuum pipe and valve are good. Thanks in advance for your advice, you're the best. Chris
  22. Just a quick one, I'm in the process of trying to sort out poor efficiency on my hybrid challenge truck brakes, Question is on the defender master cylinder the front calipers are tanden piped from the port at the servo end of the master cylinder, The 2007 Defender Td5 has a pair of ports on the front end of the cylinder and only a single one towards the servo end, so is opposite. Does anybody know which is front and rear on the Td5 one, i.e. servo end or front end Servo is the same size but the master cylinder is much shorter and stubbier on the td5, I have no balance valve's on my challenge only motor, it is totally aero-quipped and the front calipers are the single piped 110 ones with new pistons and seals, the rear are RR classic ones, again with new pistons and seals, Should really make your eyeballs hurt when you stop, but they have always been poor, so it's now a new servo and master cylinder so hopefully that should cure it. Thanks in advance guys, you're the best Chris
  23. You're lucky a certain person (no, not me) has had a reply to to say he needs a full medical and it could take up to 6 weeks after they recieve it to make a judgement. Spoke to my brother in law today (who's a GP) and the last medical he did for an HGV or similar, which did not include full eyesight readings, urine test or a STRESS ECG and he had to charge £200, and that was 5 years ago, before he went into research. And if you read the form the medical is only valid for 3 months every year to cover the application, so it looks like it needs one annuallyif you fall into that catagory. My postal one took about 10 days from post, to return, but that was just before the rush.
