I have a problem with my 98 2.0d not td4
The car broke down yesterday, suddenly stopping while driving. It would turn over but not start and the heater plug indicator on the dash did not illuminate. Had to be towed home.
Checking the car today and found no.3 fuse in engine bay blown, replaced it but it blew immediately (ignition was turned on), found the fault to be dead short on the wiring to the bottom solenoid on the injection pump (wire had been chaffing). Sorted that and replaced the fuse. Everything seemed ok, heater plugs worked, bottom solenoid ok, but engine still not starting. I found that there is no voltage going to the fuel shut off solenoid, if I put a wire direct from the battery to the solenoid it energizes and the car starts, take the wire off and it stops. I have the RAVE disc but this does not help much, it says the power to the solenoid comes from the ECM. Is there anything from the ECM to the solenoid or anything else anyone can think of to advise, I would be grateful? Thanks.
