  1. My P38 does mainly long journeys, however for a period of six months I used it for short journeys with the odd 40 mile trip. I was shocked how quickly the oil emulsified. Plan on more often oil changes and a good oil flush to keep her in good fettle.
  2. Have you tried to reset the window? Wind it down and hold the button for the count of 5, wind it up and hold the button for the count of five. May reset it if that was the problem
  3. Do you have LPG? It’s not something that look’s Std to a Range Rover. I have seen something like this. RPI sell it supposed to change the timing when running on LPG. If it is chuck it away being filled with water did not do it any good at all..
  4. Have you considered buying a replacement block with them all already done? I have seen them go for around £1500 - £1800
  5. Check this clicky http://www.4x4store-exeter.co.uk/catalog/The%204x4%20store%20rr%20ca/RR%20web%20gallery/SPRINGS.HTM Std land rover springs are sided
  6. I agree with Recovery Man I had a similar problem when by accident I caused a short on the battery and it fried one of the diodes in alternator and allowed the alternator to bleed charge from the battery when the engine was not running, at first it would take a couple of days to drain but in a very short time I was having trouble every morning, I ended up doing what your doing and disconnect the battery when ever I left it for a while. I found the problem by putting a meter in line with the battery measuring the current drawn and disconnecting things until I found what was causing the problem. Removing the small wires from the back of the alternator was all it needed to stop the charge drain.
  7. Hi Why were you looking at relay 6 & 7 in particular? Was that the area that was hot? P38 fuse box’s can be a problem in themselves and not anything else in the vehicle causing a problem. I doubt that the pollen filters being changed have anything to do with your problem.
  8. maybe you have a problem with the steering rack best take it to a garage and get it checked. you seem to have checked or replaced all the usual suspects
  9. To be honest I would take your new windscreen to someone who knows what they are doing. They won’t charge anyway near as much as it would be to replace the windscreen after you have broken it trying to put it in. A friend of mine was insistent that we could put his in and after a finger pinching nerve racking hour or so it broke. I’m sure there are people on the forum that have done it before and when you know how to do it its easy. But having tried I would always take it to an expert and let them make it look easy.
  10. Really calm down Defenders are stolen yes but not by getting in through the bonnet, I imagine most simply open the door. These forums are supposed to be a friendly place to come for help.
  11. nice way to spend an unexpected day of
  12. pull the front grill off stick your hand up or screw driver and release the latch. had to do it recently on my friends 90
  13. Tires if worn strangle (heal and toe on the tread) can make a noise in the same way that off road tires tend to wine. Because you mention that the car tramlines and changes direction that would also suggest tires Worth a look at before trying to find something more expensive
  14. My understanding was as long as you do not alter the wheel base you can get away with it. chopping a bit of the front or rear is okay. Will be interesting to see what Bowie69 comes up with
  15. If I'm away on a trip and get a puncher I stick a tube in, and there it will stay until I chuck the tire away. Otherwise I fit the tire as it is supposed to be fitted, so no I would not as a default stick a tube in a tubeless tire / rim Modern rims are designed tubeless. tubeless rims have the bigger hole.
  16. yes you can put a tube in a non tubed tire / rim. some people will tell you the tube moving in the tire will heat up and burst, i have never had a problem. the only differance I have found is the hole for the valve can be bigger, you can get a sleve I would imagin most tire fitters would have this sort of thing. hope this helps
  17. This happened to me once on my first ever land rover. Pulled the clutch out to find one of the slippers (fits to the clutch fork) had worn away and had dropped into the clutch and jamed into the pressure plate. Could be.?
  18. I fitted arch extensions on my range Rover Classic.. as previously mentioned the first cut is the hardest. Lots of masking tape, and draw loads of lines to get the feel of what your going to cut. Then….. Just brace yourself and hack away. Just offering an option.. I didn’t like the way the rear ones cut so much of the door away and didn’t feel it was necessary. So after much offering up and standing back and scratching of head and a few cups of tea I shortened about an inch of each side of the pair for each of the rear extensions. That way you have less of a hole to repair in the door as it goes over the wheel arch. Its looks fine and still looks balanced.
  19. I’m sure there is someone out there who knows more about series vehicles than me, but I would say count the spline’s.. not all steering wheels fit. I would guess not though
  20. I think your find YBE100530 is the number your after
  21. All very true but it’s still well worth checking that they actually turn. I have never had any problem with my P38 air-con or otherwise. But when I took the grill off to clean in around the radiator I noticed that one was stuck.. needed a kick to turn freely I check them every now and again just to make sure now.
  22. Because they really don’t get used all that often and sat at the front of the radiator getting covered in all the carp they can seize up or stick.. have you tried to spin them? They may just need a kick to free them up and a spot of oil to keep them that way.
