Overlanders/4x4 camping meet. Brecon Beacons. May 6-8th
Maybe of interest to a good few here,,
A overland/4x4 camp meet weekend being held in the Black Mountains of South Wales, taking place over the weekend of the 6-8th of May. Should be of interest to anyone into vehicle dependant overland travel, or those who simply love camping in the big outdoors Looks to have plenty of things to do/planned to keep the whole family happy.

-
Thank you All,, A good weekend,
-
Darth,, The bar is James and my plan for Friday evening,, after a trip to town for a bite to eat ?
-
Nice to see some prep being done Chris
-
No,, 2008 Mo,,, (check Pikes quote ,, when he joined us )
When we had the vote who got Pikey !! and Chris lost !! and you then left him in the hypermarket !!! Good try
-
It was about 5 years ago that I took up a similar offer on here to go on a trip to Portugal,
That would be May 2008
It will be a great trip,, Excellent place, If your thinking, maybe ?? Jump at the chance
-
but since it is less than an hour to the hotel would be daft not to call by.

Consider Landranger sheets 135, 136, 146, 147, 148, 160.

Found it

Was meant to be joining last July IIRC ??
Hence why the border crossing this year was somewhat more relaxed !!! than has been previously
-
As JST says above
I really hope it stays at it is as well,,
I also had the feeling that last year, Igor seam to have lost a bit of interest ? could be wrong,,
Most crews know certain junctions by the look of the tulip in the road book, and the route is done all in his head, and all the same as previous, just rearrange each year
It certainly does not run to any organisation affiliated to the FIA !! would have been shut down years ago !!
-
how are these events organised to cater, re food/accomadation availability, transport to stages etc for spectators that are not connected with any competing teams?
In 2 words,, "They dont "
Its as much as you can do, to blag one of the press sheets, which have tulips to get to 2/3 points per day,,
Or find a friendly competitor, and try and fathom out the route via their roodbook, (not that easy first time there)
Only way you could do it, is flying in, hire car, and stay at the hotel (10kms away)
Or try and get a camp spot/meal ticket from the organisers,, work on about 450 odd euros
Saying that, glad i have been a couple of times,, good event, but how much longer it will run in its current format ??

Just getting back up to speed !!
Thanks Chris,,
Believe James has also booked us in the same hotel as you
Great list of attendee's,,, looking forward to caching up with them all again , Just needs Si and Jon to get their act together

you're much better off in a well sealed truck with air con. I
Well that rules out a Defender then,,
Even with AC and all sealed shut, the dust WILL get in, certainly round the rear door,
24 hours down south , and you will be able to write in the dust on the dash !! even with a new Defender !
A Rag top tour of Morocco, There a idea

Check Ian's (Porny) site as above,, or Pete at BAS ( google Bell auto service) He has done a lot on the 2.2
-
All loaded and ready to go,, Ferry goes at midnight, and a long drive thought ahead
-
I did, right at the last possible minute - well, 36 hours before the off! Sam from Taunton, I think he is a member here but not certain of his username, turned out to have a fortnight off between jobs.
He did not bring me tea in the mornings like a decent co-driver but he did make (most!) tolls a little easier!
Chris
Need to try harder with your co driver training Chris,, Mine had my tea all ready

John
pm me your email address and i will mail you some Google earth routes.
Mark
Recon i know where they came from
If so, all easy enough, bar a couple of iffy bits for a standard vehicle
-
A taster for part of the route with luck
-
Given this trip very little thought till now, best get things sorted
-
Is their any difference between a 3.5 efi and carb dizzy ?? more or less the same vintage ?
Thanks
