  1. What is a definitive Disco V8? Is it he last of the Rover V8 engined D2s?
  2. One of the best mods to a D1 igniton system is to fit a Scorcher distributor made by Perfomance Igniton Systems in Melbourne. It is custom made and curved to suit your exact engine requirements, using common and cheap to replace Bosch parts, including Bosch cap and rotor, new body, correct drive gear. Costs AUD600 - less than a 123 or MSD. Provides a significant improvement in performance over the Lucas options and is far more reliable than a Mallory. Can be done in three days. www.performanceignition.com.au/scorcher-distributors
  3. You could try the new Real Steel Cyclone cam or the Piper Torquemaster. Both are high torque cams for use in 3.9 - 4.6 engines and can be used with auto boxes with good idle. The Cyclone gives an extra 27ftlb. Another cam is the Crower 50229 from V8 Tuner.
  4. Mine are all leaking where the rubber is crimped to the metal pipes. There are 3 pipes. I'll take them off and get new high pressure rubber sections professionally re-crimped. Anyone know how to remove the return pipe that goes into the ZF tranny from the top without dropping the gearbox?
  5. Try advancing the timing a little, they respond well. RPI do a power amp for lpg/petrol switching. A free flowing exhaust will help, don't change the manifolds, the OEMs are quite good and you'll loose low down torque. Free flow mufflers and 2.25 (auto) or 2.5 (manual) pipe from the V back is whats needed. To get more torque: Viper Cyclone cam from RS or Crower 50229 from V8 Tuner will add an extra 27 ftlb at low rpm. 4.6 can result in 340 ftlb if done right which will blow a Shogun into the weeds.
  6. Top hat liners or new Coscast block solve the problem but it's a pricey solution. As to which is best I can't say, opinion seems to be extrehely polarised.
  7. Upgrading from 3.9 to 4.6 using 14CUX and Tornado Chip. Which short engine should I buy - new Coscast or used reconditioned 4.6 fitted with top hat liners fitted?
  8. My D1 V8 auto gearbox to oil cooler hoses are leaking where the rubber is crimped to the metal pipes. Are these pipes replaceable individually or in a kit? Or can the pipes be cut and high pressure oil cooler hose be inserted and clamped on to the pipe ends with jubilee clamps?
  9. Most likely the dissy is a tooth out. Check there's a spark when hot starting. How does the RP4 cam compare with the stock 3.9 cam? Some people claim there's not any difference other than the price.
  10. It's a good idea to replace the cam, lifters and timing chain together. Rover cams should be changed around 80k or sooner if performance drops off. Some of the aftermarket cams last longer. Best timing chain set up for a RV8 is the Rollmaster (don't stretch and crank gear has cut outs to advance / retard timing) which is the same as used on a lot of Aussie V8 muscle cars.
  11. Trying to weigh up between Mac 5 and Zu rims for my D1 V8. As I see it from my research so far they both have good and bad points. Mac 5 Pros: - look great - available in 16 x 8 - steel construction strong for offroad - bend rather than break - good offset - used by a large number of competition LRs and derivatives Mac 5 Cons: - tales of cracked welds around spokes - relatively high weight compared to alloys - tales of wheel nuts coming loose - tales of poor zinc and powdercoating and premature rusting - reportedly hard to balance - high cost and more for painting Zu Pros: - look good - lightweight yet strong - reasonable cost - certified for road use in many countries Zu Cons: - not such a good offset - only available in 16 x 7 - limited offroad use - spokes come to the edge of the rim rather than being recessed Anyone have an opinion, experience or photos of which suit a Disco best?
  12. Check your thermostat. Should be 88C. Enrichment doesn't cut out until engine reaches 80C.
