Question is...do you ever get one rebuilt before you have to buy another on to tide you over? 😄

    Probably not.

At this point do you have enough of them to sell a few for core charge, and rebuild the best one with the proceeds?

Unlikely, disco engines range from about £400-£1k complete. The block is only worth about £150 and the head is more valuable to me as a spare. It's about £1k in parts to do a freshen up and that's assuming no machining is required.

Spotted on eBay it's even in Southampton.

Thanks I did see that but it's still over £1k in parts because you'd do the rings, mains etc while it's a bare block. I could do that with the one I took out (was my back up plan) but can't really afford that at the moment and there's a risk it needs machining.

What I'm getting is a running engine I can just put in. Then rebuild one of mine when time and finances permit.

  3. Thank you Peaklander I'm trying to find one closer but we'll see how that goes.

    In other news it's out.

I now know exactly what happened to the clutch.

At the top behind the fingers is a bit of metal and some springs not quite in their correct position so the friction plate has exploded.

Did Ross @landroversforever sell the 200 out of his project? Or did that happen a long long time ago?

Yes I had that engine years ago and that one snapped a cam pulling of the drive in our 110. Sold it on as parts about 5 years ago.

Given current developments and a lack of disco 200's I am starting to lean towards buying a td5 disco to strip. But it's academic until I've finished the job that'll pay for some of it.

  5. Damper has been removed and the slave is td5 from memory, there's no fluid loss in the master. It's also worth noting it's a V8 box on a diesel so it's possible the splines have let go, but It feels to me more like the arm has punched through. When I get it home I'll pull the slave but I suspect the engine is coming out and possibly the gearbox. Looks like I'll be borrowing the mother-in-law's bike  For now.
