  1. As you will realise from the rest of this thread, for me it's more about what I like and could turn it into than what is sensible and practical. if I wanted sensible I would own a land rover let alone an ibex. Mike
  2. Saw this and thought of me. Seriously though I think it has to be a crash tender stationed in the US but would make a great camper. Mike
  3. I actually doubt it will make an difference to the number of accident's either way because a numpty will crash a trailer regardless of weight and someone with half a brain is less likely however now they will tow legally with a heavy trailer. Mike
  4. What I ment was I've learned how to tow trailers therefore there's no reason others can't. Equally there's plenty that have learnt but shouldn't be allowed. I guess my overall point is a friend had to tow his caravan with a car rather than his disco 2 because of the 3.5 ton rule and that's definitely not safer. Therefore ditching a daft rule is better than nothing but realistically it should be replaced with either amalgamating into the test or an outright ban on towing without a test (though sensibility that would have to start from new licenses). Mike
  5. The move is to skip a step in training people to drive trucks. Personally I have grandfather rights and have always been able to tow large trailers but I had to learn myself. Currently you need to take a test to tow over a certain weight. They are just reverting to the old system. The current system is daft as it allows you to tow with no training upto 3.5ton gross but to exceed this you need a test. Personally I think you need a test to tow anything at all or no test. Under the new/old system I do think you should have to undergo some training to tow as part of learning to drive, but I didn't and I'm still here. Mike
  6. Hi Kyle. Most everything you need to know is covered above. The only complication is you have a 300tdi. I believe it is totally possible to mate the 300tdi to a def lt77, but I've never done it. I think you need the flywheel housing off a 200tdi, given you engine is already in the car this may have already been done. However if it hasn't it might explain why it doesn't have the correct number of bolts in. Given your not far from me pm me for my number if required. Mike
  7. Thank you for the offer, I should have one at home failing that I can acquire one from work. Mike
  8. I'm sure I can find an Allen bolt at somepoint. The end plate is bolted which means I'll have to take the end off to remove it but I plan to fit a grease nipple in the plate at some stage. Mike
  9. Rotary bur in a die grinder or drill works well but you need to keep a good hold as they can wander. Mike
  10. Teach them how to fix it will keep them skint out of trouble for years. I mean just look at us lot........ Mike
  11. I believe it was built for the navy? @TSD sent me a link to the auction site it was on last year. Mike
  12. At somepoint they started fitting swivel pin housing's that were both LHD and RHD, so it's possible the casting/swivel pin locations got altered at the same time. Mike
  13. Our 110 has a rear ARB fitted from the factory in 83. No front ARB. Mike
  14. Hope he's up and about soon, sounds like years of absorbing ep90 has not helped this time. Mike
  15. I had a little spare time this week, so I thought it about time I sorted the freespool be for I kill another brake. I had a freespool arrangement on the ep9 but it didn't work very well. Some research on here I came across a comment by Simon r with regards to how little the pin moves. This called for a re-think, my solution was to use the existing arm as a lever. First a push rod to attach to the freespool arm. It's in two pieces because the ep9 push rod I had wasn't long enough (I didn't have any more rod) and I may change to a Bowden cable later. I had to cut a hole in the seatbox lid to gain clearance but that doubles as access to the freespool lever if I have trouble with the push rod. Just need to test is now. Mike
  16. You need to understand there are several on here that are excessively sarcastic myself included. Fridge is also one and he was taking the Micky. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Mike
  17. I've used a short section of pipe (speedfit works well from memory) to hold the clip in place on the ball. The legs need a bit of bend inwards to help persuade them in. I normally buy two plastic clips if I'm doing it with the gearbox on. Mike
  18. I used to have a tomcat. And a 90, 110 and now an ibex. 😁 Mike
  19. Would it not make more sense to fit the engine and gearbox before the other mods, given that you'll probably need the wings off to fit the engine. Sounds like a good project though Mike
  20. This certainly makes sense and I'm happy with the way it is now, just need to sort the freespool (a Bowden cable is on the cards). As for the ep9 the brake was playing up so I guess that's what killed it. Mike
  21. You don't need them, but some people like them some don't. We have one on the rear of 110 but not on the ibex. I off road the ibex but the 110 only goes off road from time to time. Mike
  22. Well it's in and working. I need to make the freespool accessable, it needs a lever and push rod arrangement. Certainly with the X9 there is a destinct difference between winch in and out, it looks like the brake drags a little winching out. This isn't a problem if you freespool but that's always been tricky on the ibex. I'm fairly certain the ep9 was the wrong way round meaning the brake was dragging while winching in, thus the winch was down on pulling power. The only reason it lasted as long as it did is because I used to winch out instead of freespool and most my winching is on flat ground so didn't notice the brake failing. Mike
