I found this recently. I replaced the steering box and steering pipes so had the rad etc out. As mine wouldn't pass the pipes I took the box out from the top rather than dropping it out from below. Went back in the same way. rdw

I had the same issue starting a few months back. Re-furbished the starter as advised here and it's been fine since and all for about £15 rdw

I used a hairdryer and left the vent plug off, not had a problem since. rdw

Hi marsh, You have quite a few options to choose from - here's my two penneth ! I had a situation where the engine would get up to temperature, then dump the coolant on the floor. It turned out to be the factory clip on the bottom hose had broken in half. This break couldn't be seen as it 'engine side' and I only found it after stripping off the grill etc and leaving it idling on the drive for 30 minutes until everything had expanded enough for the leak to start. Griff, The best way I can describe it is that prior to the overheat problem, the fan would come on occasionaly, in say heavy traffic or at the end of a journey, when the car was stationary and the engine was running. It was noticable when it came on as it is quite loud. Now, the fan runs all of the time. I posed the question on here previously and one answer which to my mind seems entirely sensible, was because the ecu had registered an overheat fault, causing the fan to run permanently as a precautionary measure. No luck with the Nanocom. Regards rdw

Hi Everyone, Bit of a cheek this, but the financial crisis is kicking in here ..... I have a 2003 D2 TD5 auto. Last February I had an issue with overheating which I traced back to a broken jubilee clip. Fixed that ok, but the cooling fan stays on constantly. This, I believe is because it has registered an overheat fault code. Now I have the 3 amigos illuminating occassionaly, but becoming more frequent. Is there anyone in the MAIDSTONE, KENT area who has a Nanocom and would be willing to read and reset any fault codes on the Disco for a small fee or beer ? Many thanks for looking rdw.

Thank you for your replies - Zardos, you are absolutely right, apologies, it's a 2003 Discovery 2 ES automatic - what gearbox type I couldn't tell you. JohnL - that sounds a perfectly reasonable, if it is a drain hole, has it always been open or would there have been a plug fitted and it's now missing ? These are probably very dumb questions, but would I have lost any fluids from this ? Thanks for your time rdw

Hi, Whilst looking for the source of an oil leak, I have found a clean threaded hole on the gearbox housing. Hopefuly the image has loaded, it is to the right of the circular plate, to the left of the propshaft. Can anyone tell me, have I lost something ? Regards rdw

A pressure test revealed the spring clip on the bottom rad connection had snapped in half. A 75p jubilee clip from Wickes sorted it. I had bought a new thermostat but couldn't see how I could replace it without stripping out the fan and rads. How is it done ? Also, the electric fan is on constantly, I thought I read on here somewhere, that it is fairly redundant in the UK so I have left it disconnected. Any views on this ? Hi, I had an accident in my 2003 TD5 diesel auto - mid December. Ended up sideways in a steep ditch at an angle of 45' with the front o/s wing againt a tree and the rear near side wheel off the ground. It stayed in this position for about a week as the conditions were such it couldn't be recovered. Had the front repaired and when I got it back, the first time I drove it, it lost so much coolant I ended up having it recovered back to home. Topped it up and it only leaks when hot. It's gone back too the repairers and again, I put about 3-4 litres on the garage forecourt. Although the coolant is puddling around the bottom of the rads' we couldn't find the source of the leak. I saw one drip from a connection next to the thermostat. Tried getting the engine up to temperature and found - sods' law - it barely dripped. The hoses were warm as was the expansion bottle but the radiator was cold. The thinking at the garage is that the thermostat is faulty and as the temp and pressure rises it's leaking from the thermostat connections. Does this make sense ? Has anyone experience anything similar ? It was running perfectly before the accident and thinking about it, it was resting with all gravitational force towards the front right headlamp. Is it possible sediment has gotten in to the thermostat and fouled it up to stop it working ? What do other members think ? Regards RDW

As above. The speedboat description sums up the gearbox nicely. With an eye on the fuel savings, what could one reasonably expect to pay a garage for this type of conversion ?

Has anybody heard of this before ? The mileage on my '03 TDi was, when I last used it about two weeks ago - 76k or therebouts. I was thinking an oil change is due. When I used it today - it is reading 127k !!!!! I know - I know ! No - it hasn't been taken twice around Europe and I'm not going mad ! What on earth can it be ? rdw.

Yes ! Purchased the injector harness - Bearmach, Maidstone £40 + VAT and fitted it this afternoon. Hey-presto - no misfire ! A massive thank you BogMonster and also Les Henson for the great 'how to' guide. Just as a note, although I had previously checked the harness to the ECU and found this to be clear, when I disconnected the harness at the injector end and let the connector hang down, I was suprised at how much oil dripped from the wiring sleeve ! Clearly the seals had failed. I think the wiring harness to the ECU will be my next job. Thanks again RDW
