  1. Should have said; I took head off, gasket was fine and no visible issues from the top. Also there's still oil on the dipstick (although obviously that's irrelevant if the oil pressure disappeared). I will drop the sump off and investigate a little more, probably about time it had an oil change anyway! Thanks for response Nick
  2. Hi all, My 90 died in a big cloud of white smoke a few months ago and it's about time I got it sorted out. It was on the way back from challenge event, where it was decidedly wet! The oil warning light flickered on after one wet hole but soon disappeared (and I rather forgot about it!). On the drive home, oil warning light started flickering again, shortly followed by a lot white smoke from the exhaust. I pulled over but then drove an extra 300m to get us off the motorway. It sounded very rough by the time I stopped. Then got it towed home. Dismantling it reveals a completely knackered turbo and very oily pipes. I've managed to source a re-con hybrid turbo for reasonable money so that's ready to fit, I'm also tempted to get a better intercooler and silicone pipes. What else should I be checking? Fuel pump, big end / main bearings? Thanks all Nick
  3. yeah that's why I think they have closed down. I might trying ringing the number though
  4. Hi all Any body heard of a company called Moonraker 4x4, based near Salisbury. I have a feeling they might have closed down now. I'm thinking of buying a part finished project that they did the chassis and cage work for. Just wondering if they are / were any good? Haven't looked at it yet, obviously I'm going to inspect thoroughly! PM if you don't feel like slagging off (or praising hopefully) on a public forum! Regards Nick
  5. Hi all My mate was unfortunate enough to get clipped on the side of motorway by an MOD 90 at 50mph. Wrote his truck off quite successfully, but he's bought the wreck back and front half is mostly okay. He will be selling parts but I get first dibbs Its a 300tdi 90 - mines a 200tdi 90. Anybody know if the following are interchangeable? Gearbox (mines obviously LT77, assume his is R380) Steering column + box Turbo? Thanks Nick
  6. Hi all Who supplies decent aeu2522 cv joints to fit 200tdi 90? Don't want to splash out on uprated ashcroft but prefer not to buy aftermarket rubbish. Any suggestions? Nick
  7. Also depends on which events your doing. I've watched quite a few different events and all tend to be set out different. For example events with lots of single entrance 'sections' natural tend to involve more winching backwards. But yeah generally rear, better still if you can route it to side pull aswell Just go do an event as single winch and see what you think. Nick
  8. As long as you make a good job could look wicked. But bear in mind that 'technically' it wouldn't be legal. Homemade bumpers (inc removable A-bars) and anything that hasn't been through the rather vigourous test precedures don't conform to Contruction and Use regualtions. This includes a good deal of winch bumpers sold throughtout UK. Some people adevertise as offroad use only, others just ignore it. This is partly why modern vehicles have plastic a-bars and the likes of devon 4x4 justify 450 for a bumper (not even a very strong one at that!). Before anybody says it, C&U regs have nothing to do with mots, you can quite easily pass an mot with trucks that not only don't comform but should have IVA tests That being said, I just made a new bumper. I reckon that so long as you make a good professional looking job and it isn't an obvious danger to any small child stupid enough to stand in the road, you'll be okay. Try not to drive past too many vosa checkpoint though! Good luck, post us pictures Nick
  9. Don't think its quite as quality as tonys g wagon, for starters his is in stainless, this one is out of an old rusty bit of pipe! I am thinking about changing the shackles for simple loops. Though its not like the trucks about to be used for challenge events Nick
  10. Yeah number plate needs moving somehow!
  11. Hi all Just finished off bumper for mates series, slightly unusual design so thought i'd show some pics. Made from two tubes, joined by four tube sections. Mount on the four original bumper bolts and the spring hanger bolts (all single shear). Has triangle braces for corners and swing shackle recovery points (ex military of some sort). Plasma rope will come out between centre tube joiners. Approach angle is about as good as possible, without removing spring hanger etc. Happy new year Nick
  12. That sounds interesting, though sounds like i'd have to buy one! We have a selection of springs on the shelf so i'll try that first. Nick ps apologee accepted!
  13. I reckon i'll know if the winch is engaged or not, if i winch in an nothing happens, stands to reason its in freespool. Similarly if i back of a cliff and find myself falling rapidly to the bottom... its in freespool! And I don't think any spring, me yanking a cable or even a fancy ass air ram could pull a winch out of 'engaged' when under load. I will investigate using a spring to put winch into freespool. Generally speaking the winch bitch is stood near the winch when this is need, so not as useful. Daan what is a push pull cable? how's it different from my bonnet release? Nick
  14. Hi all I've been trying to justify the cost of buying an air freespool kit for the goodwinch tds on my challenge truck. But so much else I could do with the money. So I had a thought the other day that it must be possible to do with string and pulleys (was in the pub at the time!). Next morning I looked at it and decided it was unpractical. However... I've used the old bonnet release cord, which handily is the right length. Mounted on a simple bracket via tie rod bolt. I can now pull the winch out of freespool from inside the cab. So poor old winch bitch can run up hill in free, attach anchor, i pull the cord and off we go! Saves battery power and winch bitch power! Maybe not so good as air freespool but should be quite reliable and its cost me precisely nothing! What do you think? Nick
