  1. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I have replaced the inner and outer race as well as the bearing itself. Everything is in good (ish) condition and the everything is sitting where it shoud on the axel and in the hub. The oils seal sounds like a posibility, if thats not far enough in it would push the hub out and stop the rear bearing from loading up. Its a 1990 90. The investigation continues...
  2. I am replacing my front wheel hub bearings and I can't get them to sit properly. When I tighten up the large nut the outer bearing tightens up but the inner bearing is not tight and I can wobble the disk. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?????? My MOT is in a few day! Help please!
  3. Thanks for your help. I've found a guy and its going to be done on Thursday!
  4. Hi all, My rear x-member badly needs replacing and I don't think my welding is up to the job... I have a replacement with extensions but really can't afford to take it to a propper garage. Does anyone know any decent welders in the Chippenham/Bath area who would be able to do it for me? Obviously I can remove the old one but its the welding which is the problem. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the suggestions. I replaced the old engine (also a disco 200tdi) a few months ago and it is only since then that the problems have started, that's why I didn't think it would be the radiator or temperature gauge. The old engine never used to overheat with the same radiator, also surely on the motorway is when the radiator would be most effective??? Is it possible that I could have damaged the gearbox when I put in the new engine? When I started the car for the first time the clutch didn't seem to dissengage at all but when I tried again it was fine. Could the problem be the clutch not fully dissengaging? but it seems to be fine selecting first when stationary. I also recently replaced the gear oil. It was definitely the correct oil and I filled it correctly to the level of the filler plug.... Thanks for the help, I'm running out of ideas!
  6. I have a disco 200tdi in my 90 and it gets way too hot when I go on the motorway, the needle doesn't go all the way into the red but its close to it. yet it's fine with normal driving, could the thermostat be stuck closed? Also my gearbox won't go into second for the first 5 minutes or so untill it is up to running temperature. I have no idea why, anyone got any ideas??? Cheers.
  7. Quick Update. I have bled the whole system again and now the breaks are really good unless you pump them really quickly, almost like hammering on the pedal, if I do this then they go soft again. Could it be because hammering on the pedal is dislodging air in the system?
  8. I have just replaced my brake master cylinder as my brakes were not holding pressure and the pedal starts to sink when you hold your foot on the brake. I was told it was the seals in the master cylinder and so replaced it. Now when I try the brakes they are initially good and firm but if you pump them they get worse till they go straight to the floor... They are pumping down... Can anybody help as I have no idea why this is happening. I've spent the whole afternoon bleading the brakes which did nothing and normally if there is air in the system they pump up. Any suggestions would be great. Cheers.
  9. Thanks. That makes alot more sense now. The picture was not of my mates car, just one I pinched off google, so I'm afraid I don't know what the copper tube is for.
  10. I recently purchased a G-reg defender which has a 200tdi (i don't think the engine is origional), however when I compare it to my mates 200tdi the turbo is in a different place. Mine is down low in the engine bay with a square inlet manifold, but his manifold is different, and the turbo is up high. Can anyone please tell me the difference. I want to fit a snorkel but it currently has a K&N filter and do not know where I should fit the air box. I have attached photos showing difference.
