  1. Be wary of that. I remember travelling to Bosnia in a 110 as part of an aid convoy while I was in uni a few years back. Navigator noticed map light was starting to smoulder a little in the middle of a long tunnel. In his wisdom, he decided that the best course of action was to cut the thing off using his shiny multitool. Trouble was the cutters weren't man enough and served only to accelerate the combustion process. The remedy involved smacking his new arc welder with a fire extinguisher to complete the job he started and then using said extinguisher to deal with the inferno he had created. He kept the multitool as a souvenier. Welded itself together with two pretty streaks of copper running through the middle. And as an aside, don't ingest dry powder from a fire extinguisher. Let's just say he was able to ask for directions to the nearest lavatory in several different languages by the time we came home.
  2. I believe the AA use AA Routeplanner as their mapping system. Having worked for an AA subcontractor, we always call the member direct to pinpoint their exact location. Sadly, I don't think this is common practice though. Being a local subcontractor does mean you tend to have a bit more local knowledge than an AA patrol so you can talk people through landmarks, where they have come from and where they are going to, etc. I've never not found anyone yet. ;-)
  3. As a point of interest, I was talking to a chap who drives for DHL last week. All new additions to their fleet now have cyclical dashcams fitted. BUT, they have had to turn the resolution down low so that faces are not discernable. You can still see the mechanics of any incident, but you're not infringing on anyones human rights/civil liberty/guilt by filming them. Load of pc twaddle if you ask me, but the EU parliament rarely does. Their loss.
  4. Having just had a conversation with a customer who has just bought a new Discovery, there may be some light to shed on this. While she was searching she called at a garage near this seller who had repaired a roof that had apparently left the factory without being fully welded up. It may be pure coincidence. I'm waiting for a response to my request to go and view it so watch this space.
  5. Looking at a 2002 Discovery on EvilBay. Looks nice and clean, but in his description he says that the roof has been replaced by Landrover at some point. Was this a recall thing? Any other reason something like this would be required? Or should I just walk away?
  6. Probably of no help to you, but I had the same issue fitting alloys to my RR based trialler. As the thing will never go on the public highway or faster than 10mph, I just used a rotary file on the inside of the alloy. Only takes a few mm and they fitted a trear.
  7. They've been in and around Herefordshire for a few weeks now. I've spotted one on at least three occasions. As a matter of interest, and probably teaching most of you to suck eggs, the graphics are not designed to hide, just to hide what it actually looks like.
  8. My trialler is a RR chassis & running gear with series bodywork. Can this mod be done on it? It's a pain in the arris trying to reach the standard one with a four point harness on.
  9. There are a (very) select few who get to use what little tools I have. It works the other way too. I would rather buy a specific tool to do a job than borrow it wherever possible. And if I do borrow anything, I make sure it goes back cleaned and in serviceable condition. Just a case of respect for those around you really.
  10. As a matter of interest a customer made, what I think is, a valid comment this afternoon. If you are really desperate for fuel, what about motorway service stations? Not logistically possible for many I know. But one of the places where panic buying would be at its lowest as they are not the sort of places you just nip to in order to pick up fuel. Obviously there is the increased price to factor in too. Just a point to ponder really.

  12. I had a thud like yours that came from the drivers door whenever I went over a speed bump. The previous owner was honest enough to tell me that the window on that side had packed up a while ago. I assumed the noise was the quadrant rattling around. When I finally got round to investigating inside the door, there was a lump of two by four that the cowboy had used to wedge the window closed while the NoNails set!!
  13. Try some releasing oil in through the keyhole, could be just gunked up from lack of use. Failing that, join the AA making sure to get homestart, wait a day then give them a call. A Disco should take them about thirty seconds to get into for you. ;-)
