  1. Thanks for the replies - didn't know the new defender is called the Puma. Any reason in particular? I'm considering upgrading my 2000 110 TD5 for either a 2006 90 TD5 or a 2007 Puma 90. Its not surprising but the Puma seems to be attracting mixed opinions so I'll have to sit on the fence for a bit..
  2. Anyone familiar/got the new 2.4 litre Defender with the Ford Transit engine and updated drive train? Is it an improvement on the TD5? Any teething problems? I think it's out about 2 years now...
  3. I tried fitting a Mondeo fan (the slim design one) and there was no way it was going to fit. I spoke with Kenlowe and their 17" fan will fit. They have upgraded their controller to a new automatic, two stage, electronic thermostat from the older in water sensor type automatic temperature controller. The new thermostat has a fast acting contact probe that can be simply inserted against a tube in the radiator. It's expensive, £150+VAT for the entire fan kit direct from Kenlowe. Paddock sell it for £110+VAT but make sure which kit it is, old or new. Like me, other TD5 owners I've spoken to aren't using any fan at all, which is fine during the present weather but I would'nt be so confident in the summer...
  4. Hi Guys, Does anyone know what electric fan fits a TD5? I tried one from a Ford Mondeo, as suggested by other members, but it doesn't fit. There is only a gap of about 3.5" between the radiator and the fan idler pulley on a TD5. The bearing in my viscous fan was howling so I removing the fan altogether and this has transformed the vehicle, sounds quieter and revs more freely. I'm not very comfortable driving around with no fan so I'd like to get sorted with an electric one asap. Any suggestions out there? Peter
  5. Hi Santalars, Did you get to the bottom of the worn bearing sound. Was it the alternator or did you have to replace the PAS pump as well? I too have a similar sound - a kind of whurring sound at higher revs with the odd chirp now and again and when I release the fan belt the sounds disappear.
