  1. Hi all, I've recently purchased a VGT from Bell Auto Services, To reclaim the surcharge I need to send off a fully working turbo but when I removed mine to take the head off my TD5 I noticed that the waste gate linkage was seized (thought she was down on power) Is there a quick fix for this or is it a full strip down? (Turbo only needs to appear to be in working order as I assume it will be overhauled anyway) Thanks, Mick.
  2. Cheers Gents, Wasn't aware there was an online version until Retroanaconda pointed me in the right direction.
  3. Cheers for posting, handy to know.
  4. What vehicle / engine was it?
  5. Thanks Ray, Yes she overheated when the radiator failed. Gasket has one thickness indicator dot, not sure what that means but I'll ensure the same goes back on. There is some delamination on the front of the gasket but I think thats from removing the head.
  6. My 110 was shocking (no pun intended) when I bought her, Changed everything to OME and it's much better on and off road, having said that, when I took the original dampers off they were seized solid! You could be original and retrofit the air set up from a P38
  7. The "black gunk" is probably what used to be the seals
  8. ^^^^^ as above, Broken spring, damper, trailing arm bush... Could be anything mate.
  9. Hi all, I've taken the head off my TD5 and the gasket surfaces are covered in very thin blobs of a silicone like substance that has peeled off the gasket. I've obviously got to clean this off but how abrasive can I afford to be? Scotchbrite? Wire wool? Fine emery? Have tried this wife's kitchen sponge type things and they won't dent it (she will probably dent me when she finds out)
  10. Yes it comes up every time. I'll give him a shout.
  11. Gents, Forgive my ignorance but would you expect to be able to see where a head gasket has gone on a diesel? Taken mine off and i can't see anything obvious. Ta, Mick.
  12. Gents, Trying to instal Microcat, have installed the main program, copied the MG16.DLL file into the relevant folders and run the Microlaunch thingy, tries to run but I get the following error: "Microcat license quantity has been exceeded. Please contact your Microcat Customer Service help desk for further assistance." Ehm, don't think they will help some how! Any ideas? Mods, if this post isn't allowed please delete. Thanks, Mick.
  13. Ralph, The Smiley I'm looking for doesn't exist on the forum but involves raising the middle finger
  14. I have quite a bit of Snap On kit ( and Halfords pro ) but I don't understand why you would do that. Two of everything I understand but Jeez! How many things would I rather spend 26K on?!
  15. Gent's, Having to do some work on my 110 Td5 at the moment (head gasket etc), whilst it's in bits I might as well do the upgrades I had planned for the future ( turbo, intercooler, EGR bypass, remap etc) Decisions regarding the turbo is difficult as I don't know that much about the options available, as I'm sure you all know TD5alive offer an uprated Garret for about the same cost as Bell Auto's Turbo Technic VGT jobby. If it matters I'm looking for an across the board improvement rather than top end power, I think VGT is the best option for me but as I have said I know sod all about turbos. Opinions please
  16. I love this forum! Thanks chaps. Not worth turning the lathe on for the price in Anderzander's link!
  17. Chaps, It has become apparent that the head needs to come off my 110 TD5. Looking in the manual it says to lock the cam with special tool LRT-12-058, anybody got a drawing of the pin then I can make one? Failing that anybody know where I can purchase one? Tried my main stealer but they don't want to know. Cheers, Mick.
  18. Thanks for all the advice chaps, Took the water pump off and it's fine so it's head off time. I'm certainly learning my way around a TD5 engine
  19. Landy-Novice, It would appear that you have discovered punctuation
  20. Paintwork either side of the crack appears to be too good for a bodged repair to me.
  21. Chaps, Sorry to drag this up again, but I'm still at a loss... Done a bit more digging so would appreciate your opinions. I've now replaced the thermostat / bypass valve assembly but it's still the same: at tick over lots of bubbles in the expansion tank, rev her up and she blows the coolant out. All coolant hoses are pressurised but only the block outlet pipe and heater hoses are getting hot even with new stat fitted. If I disconnect the small pipe that runs between the radiator and the expansion tank I get very aerated water coming out of the radiatior port but the expansion tank continues to bubble, this coupled with the fact that the block outlet hose gets much hotter when i pump it by hand is leading me towards the water pump but I'm confused by the fact that all the hoses are pressurised. I guess if the engine was boiling the water in the block it could generate sufficent air pressure to pressurise the hoses without transfering heat to the radiator and if worked hard lift the safety cap on the expansion tank? From the manual I see that the pump is driven by two lugs that are driven by the power steering pump shaft, is it possible for the pump or the drive lugs to fail completely? I realy don't think it's a head gasket problem but I'm at a loss as to what is going on. Would realy appreciate any advice or there is going to be a cheap 110 TD5 appearing in the For Sale section soon
  22. I obviously can't answer for FF but it would seem to me that you have repeatably been advised against fitting a Webber yet persist in wanting to do so... My advice would be drop the thread and fit one if you realy want to (and can figure out a way of doing it), won't improve the performance but hey ho
