  1. The Scottish Borders Hill Rally 2012. Following extensive consultation the Scottish Hill Rally Club are pleased to announce that it is the clubs intention to run this years Scottish Borders Hill Rally on the 10th & 11th November 2012. Many of you will note that this is one week earlier than in previous years, the club are conscious that in the current climate that everything possible must be done to ensure that Hill Rallies continue to flourish. We are delighted that the Borders Hill Rally continues to be well supported, however in 2011 we did see a slight drop in entries. The club wanted to be sure that we didn’t take competitors, marshals, supporters and spectators for granted and just continue to run the event as was. To this end we embarked on a journey to court opinion from all involved with the event, replies were received from a reasonable number of people that indicated that the running of the event would be better supported if it was to run a week earlier as this fitted in better with other events, holiday’s etc. We fully appreciate that this date change may not suit everyone, but we have made the decision with the best intentions that will help the Club to continue to run Hill Rallies in Scotland. The 2012 Event builds on the success of previous Scottish Borders Hill Rally events and again will be run at the ever popular Forrest Estate, St Johns Town of Dalry. The feedback from competitors, marshals and supporters for a return to this venue have been most positive, the setup team will continue to look at bringing challenging stages with tweaks and improvements that not only seek to challenge the vehicles, but competitors as a whole. The organising team carried out a debrief process after the event and we have highlighted areas that we need to improve on for 2012, the commitment of the volunteers that run the event is unquestionable and certainly we are all keen to deliver the best event with the resources available to us. The Scottish Hill Rally Club Membership have committed to run the event with the same entry fee cost as 2011, NO INCREASE! As with any event of this nature, there are a number of challenges that the organising team need to meet to ensure that we run the best event possible, we need everyone that is passionate about Cross Country Motorsport to help. • We need to spread the word about the date change, we would like to encourage a full entry for the event. • We need to attract a certain level of sponsorship to run the event, whether you can help with a £100 or £5000 were keen to hear from you (contact details below) Remember its not too late to get the event named after your organisation “The Custard Enterprises Borders Hill Rally” as an example. We have a number of sponsorship opportunities available for interested parties. • If your up for helping with organisation of the event before hand or to help over the event weekend. Get in touch. • We need volunteer marshals to help run safe stages, were keen to hear from individuals, groups and clubs who are willing to help with the event. We hope to publish the Supplementary Regulations for the event early in June (subject to MSA Approval) and with entries opening on the 1st of July. So as you will appreciate there is a lot of hard work ahead for the club to do, before we deliver another great Scottish Borders Hill Rally 2012 on the 10th & 11th November 2012, but the work has started and we are committed to bringing another first class cross country event. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved with the Scottish Borders Hill Rally events to date, without your support the events wouldn’t happen and we look forward to working with you for many years to come. The clubs website will shortly be updated to reflect the progress with this years event and as previous years you can subscribe to the Borders Buzz email mailing list to kept informed of all the latest developments with the event. 2. Hi Everyone, I got home last night and was certainly ready for switchingoff and having a good sleep, so apologies for not writing this sooner. On behalf of myself and the rest of my colleagues on theScottish Borders Hill Rally organising team, I would like to pass on our sincere thanks to you all for coming and supporting this years event. Its fair to say that at the beginning of the year we weren’t sure where we would end up,given the downturn in the economy and the general fall in entries and marshals for motor sport events. However we were delighted that despite seeing a slight decrease in entries for this year that the competitors came, the marshals rallied and all supported the event. In the end we had 42 entrants and all their service crews, wesigned on about 240 volunteer officials, numerous media teams and not forgetting all the spectators that came and supported the event. As with any event of this size, there are many people who have provided supported from early in the year and those who provided assistance that couldn’t actually attend the event, to those who cameand worked behind the scenes, its no small task to put on an event of this nature and to name all of them would result in a very long list. To that end we thank everyone who helped the event. We should also remember the set up teams who were active inthe week up to the event and also in the days following the event. Without there dedication and commitment to the setup/take down process the event would not have been ready. Thank you to all involved in setup/take down. We are also conscious that without event sponsors that we would also be in a very difficult financial position and we acknowledge that without their support this years event may not have been possible. For 2011 we received support from both companies and individuals who all had a common goal in that they wish to help keep Hill Rallies alive, thank you all for this welcome support. The pictures and videos have already started to trickle through onto the net and certainly we will post any links we find on the clubs/events face book pages for all to share. If you have any you want to share please post them on the face book pages or email the details to us for posting. The organising team are intending to meet in the next few weeks to do a debrief and to see what went well and what needs to be improved. As with any debrief we need your feedback, so we would welcome yours, whether positive or negative, it will help us to make the next event even better. Full event results can be viewed here: http://nersresults.co.uk/html/2011/sb_hillrally/index.html On the subject of events the Scottish Hill Rally Club are fully committed to running Hill Rallies in Scotland, to that end we will shortly start work next years Scottish Borders Hill Rally 2012. We have not forgotten about the Perthshire Hill Rally in the summer and we are actively looking at a format that fits in with the land available to us and with what we feel the competitors want to support. As with most things we can only do this with your support and feedback. As I mention above we are already looking to 2012, and we would welcome early dialogue with anyone who is interested in coming on board as one of the sponsors of the 2012 Scottish Borders Hill Rally. We are conscious that the current climate is not likely to change for a while and wefully accept that sponsorship is essential to the running of any event. If you can send any feedback to us, so that we can review it at our debrief meeting. colin.rodger@virgin.net Thank you all for support and I look forward to seeing you at the Scottish Borders Hill Rally 2012. 3. Morning All, I have just emailed out a load of event/safety information to everyone I believe is coming to help at the event. If you haven't received anything, its either because I don't know or simply because I got your email address wrong. Please email me if I have missed you out. We still could do with 10/15 people especially for the Sunday, although any help both days would still be most welcome. if you can help or have a query then email colin.rodger@virgin.netor mobile 07767-726075 Thanks everyone for volunteering.Look forward to talking to you at the weekend. Regards, Colin.
  4. Urgent Plea for Marshal's I have answered all the emails sent to me so if anyone has sent one and not had a reply then please resend it to me colin.rodger@virgin.net The event is still really short of marshals, so much so I do not feel that there are sufficient numbers to run some of the stages safely. I would ask that if anyone is thinking of coming or yet to decide, can you please get in touch your help would really make a difference. You dont need to have been before to help or even marshalled, main criteria is that you have a willingness to help, the rest we can show you at the event. Its not often where we are in the position where we have the Land, the competitors but limited marshals, please if you can help even if its for only one of the days get in touch. colin.rodger@virgin.net or 07767726075 Thanks, Colin.

We will start updating the site more regularly as we firm up more arrangements. If your intending on entering let us know, please don't leave it the last minute, it helps us to plan the event and also avoids disappointment. Were also looking for marshals, radio crews for the event, if your up for helping then please get in touch Likewise got a question please ask! colin.rodger@virgin.netmobile: 07767726075 Regards, The Scottish Borders Hill Rally 2011 Organising Team. 6. Emergency Scotland 2011 - Meet Lothian 4x4 Response Team. The 5 & 6th of July sees Scotland have its first ever Emergency Services Show, which is being organised by the same people who put on the very successful Emergency Services Show @Stoneleigh. The show is at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow and with over a 120 exhibitors there is certainly something for everyone to see, it brings together many Emergency and Resilience Partners from all over Scotland. http://www.emergencyscotland2011.com/index.lasso The exhibition is only part of the activities, as the event is partnered with The Emergency Planning Society Resilience Seminar who are holding a number of seminars at the event. http://www.epsconference2011.org/venue-and-travel.php Lothian 4x4 Response are exhibiting at the event, come and meet us on stand E177 and our display outside the main entrance. The team see this event as an excellent opportunity to meet with people with responsibilities within the Emergency and Resilience fields to allow them to find out more about what 4x4 Response is and how it may be of use in times of need. www.lothian4x4response.org
  7. The Scottish Perthshire Hill Rally 2011. It is with the deepest regret that the Scottish Hill Rally Club has to announce that we will not be running the Scottish “Perthshire” Hill Rally in 2011. We have been unable to secure the facilities to run the type and quality of event we think you want. We are committed to the sport, the Club exists for the sport, and we believe that full blown Multi-stage, open-hillside, cross-country rallies will return…. just not in the near future. The Club will shortly start contacting every competitor, past & present, that we have details for, to find out what you want and what we can do that aligns with that. We are planning a small Competitive Safari event in July, for those who miss their annual summer jaunt to Scotland. The Club has already started planning the Scottish “Borders” Hill Rally (19/20 November): we have agreements to return to Forrest Estate, outline plans for routes, and a number of key figures are already on-board. Ian Stuart. Chairperson Scottish Hill Rally Club.
  8. Morning Everyone, Got home late last night after the event very tired, so now had some sleep, now got some time and internet access. Thank you to everyone who came and helped marshal the event, I was really pleased to see that marshal numbers were well into three figures. There were many old friends of the Scottish Hill Rally Club here to help and lots of new friends also down for the first time to help. Everyone regardless of their role was happy to help, whether they had done the particular job or not before. Many taking on the job training and fast becoming experts in the field. The event did throw up the odd challenge but as a team we dealt with them and made sure the event will again go down in motorsport as another Scottish Borders Hill Rally to remember. So whether your role, was as a Marshal, Radio Marshal, Radio Controller, Rescue, Recovery, Doctor/Paramedic, or simply supporting the event as a signed on official, thank you from the organising team for helping at this years event. We understand that feedback is important and welcome your thoughts, good or bad, that we can address for next year. If you do have anything to pass on please let us know by email, either to the event secretary or to me colin.rodger@virgin.net One area that I do know that we need to improve on as an event, whether competitor, marshal or signed on official is that of takedown or clean up. The set up team were on site for the whole week and a handful of them were still on site yesterday tidying up, indeed Ian and Diana are still there today. Many of the setup team take time off work or other commitments to ensure that the event is set up for the two days of competition. Come Sunday night there just glad the event is over and ready for a break, but cleanup has to start. If for future events a few more of you could consider taking your time off to stagger the event so that there is a few more people to help with the cleanup that would really help the event and take the pressure off the few who are really in need of support by this time. The more people there are the quicker it gets done. If anyone has any pictures that might be of use to the SHRC club for the clubs website then please email them to me. Thanks again everyone for helping to run this years event and hopefully see you all again at an event soon. Regards, Colin Rodger Chief Marshal Scottish Borders Hill Rally 2010
  9. The Scottish Borders Hill Rally Saturday the 20th & Sunday the 21St November 2010 Dear Motorsport Enthusiast, You should all know by now that the Scottish Hill Rally Club is running the Scottish Borders Hill Rally on the 20th & 21st November 2010, at the same venue as the successful 2009 event, The Forrest Estate, St Johns Town of Dalry, New Galloway. Some footage form last years event: Some of you will be familiar with the venue as it has played host to the 2009 Scottish Borders Hill Rally, The Scottish Cross Country Championship back in June, the British Cross Country Championship also in June, has also hosted numerous rally test days and the Solway Coast Rally. The venue has certainly got a motorsport pedigree that we can all enjoy. The 2010 Borders Hill Rally will see has again enjoyed a sell out with the competitors, at this early point in the run up to the event we have 50 entries received A FULL ENTRY! As last year we are running a reserve list. So if you want to see some of the best off road motorsport action in the UK and almost certainly a wide variety of high spec cross country racing vehicle then the 2010 Borders Hill Rally is the place to be in November for what will almost certainly be one of the hotly contested events of the year. The organising team took on board the interest of last year’s event and worked with the landowners to see how we can improve the event further. To this end we have looked at the stages and made subtle changes, we looked at the running order of the stages, we looked at the service area and made it bigger, and in fact it’s been moved to give more flat unobstructed space. This year we are offering competitors Sixteen stages over two days, comprising some 100 miles and with minimal liaison miles not on public roads (No road tax or mot needed) Full details will be available on the club website: www.scottish-hillrally.co.uk As ever with an event of this nature, the Scottish Hill Rally Club need help to staff the event. Some of you have already have jobs on the event, a lot of you do not. Please come out and support the event, helping to make 2010 Scottish Borders Hill Rally a great success. There are numerous jobs that need filling: Instage Marshals, Start and Finish Marshals Radio Marshals. Spectator Area Marshals. In Stage Specialist Recovery Vehicles. Setting Up Team. We would welcome help from all whether experienced or not, as we can give training on the weekend or pair you up with an experienced marshal. Remember due to the nature of the event it not always necessary to have a 4x4 vehicle to help at this event, we have many on and off course positions that can be accessed by a road vehicle. The venue is located here: http://www.multimap.com/s/MU8GgLdC Accommodation: Free Camping is available with Toilet facilities available at the Venue. Other accommodation is available locally please see: http://www.visitscotland.com/ or try http://www.visitsouthernscotland.co.uk/ More details are available on the Scottish Hill Rally Club website: www.scottish-hillrally.co.uk Food: There will be a snack bar in attendance over the weekend, with a covered area set aside for eating/socialising. For this year we have arranged for the same catering van that has been attending the Scottish Cross Country Championship to provide attend the event. So good quality food is available at an affordable price and with enough variety to ensure that you don’t go hungry. Please let us know early if you’re able to come as it allows us to plan the event, complete safety plans, print the paperwork and most importantly keep you up to date with what is happening with the event. Please don’t assume that I know your coming, because you have told someone else on the organising team. Please email me specifically to confirm your attendance so that you are included in the event plans Please give me a call Colin Rodger 07767-726075 or email colin.rodger@virgin.net and I will add you to our plans for the event If you have any questions regarding the event please get in touch if I don’t know the answer I will certainly be able to put you in touch with someone that does. Regards, Colin Rodger Chief Marshal The Scottish Borders Hill Rally. www.scottish-hillrally.co.uk P.s Spread the word, whether it’s to potential Competitors or Marshals, please tell everyone what a great event the club is putting on.
  10. Hello Everyone, The latest news on this years event is that were now in receipt of 43 entries, which means with over three months to go that we now only have 7 entries available. So if you’re planning on entering, don’t hang about. I can also tell you, that last year we ran a reserve list. Had the people at the start of the reserve list brought their vehicles to the event, they would have got an entry as others had dropped out. We will again run a reserve list for this year’s event. Any questions or queries on entries please contact the entries secretary for the event. Her details are in the Supplementary Regulations which are available at http://www.scottish-hillrally.co.uk Remember the best way to keep up to date with all this years event news is to subscribe to our new mailing list http://scottish-hillrally.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/bordersbuzz_scottish-hillrally.co.uk As with all events we will need considerable help to run the event. We will shortly be circulating the list of what is required and seeking your help. However should you want to get in touch now and volunteer your help, then please email me colin.rodger@virgin.net or mobile 07767-726075 to volunteer. Should you have any questions about the event or helping then again give me a shout and I will answer them or point you in the direction of the person who can. Regards, Colin Rodger. Chief Marshal. The Scottish Borders Hill Rally 2010 Organising Team. This e-mail has been sent on behalf of SHR Club Ltd Registered in Scotland (Company No. SC307846) Registered Office: 52 Fort St, Broughty Ferry, Dundee DD52AB.
  11. Hi everyone, Entries for this years event are progressing very well. With three and a half months to the event, we now only have 16 entries left. Who will get one of the final 16 and become one of this years 50 entrants? Well that is anyone’s guess! I can tell you that our Entries Secretary having checked over the entry list from the 2009 event, has noticed that 25 of the entrants from last years event are still to enter the 2010 event. Now for those of you who are still undecided about entering the event or are simply waiting to see if your vehicle will survive events in the run up to this years Scottish Borders Hill Rally, then the best advice is to get your entry in now, with only sixteen entries left then you don’t want to be disappointed. I can also tell you, that last year we ran a reserve list. Had the people at the start of the reserve list brought their vehicles to the event, they would have got an entry as others had dropped out. We will again run a reserve list for this year’s event. Things to remember about this year’s event: The organising team are working hard to put on another great Scottish Borders Hill Rally. The Stage Team are in the middle of putting the final touches and variations to the stages. We all want to see you and your machinery at the event. The landowners have built a large new service area. The organisers are looking at promoting the event to a wider audience and putting in dedicated spectator areas, so more exposure for your sponsors. Were hoping to get BBC Alba along to film the event. So the important point to note is that with only 16 entries left and the entries list is changing daily, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU NEED TO GET YOUR ENTRY IN. Remember the best way to keep up to date with all this years event news is to subscribe to our new mailing list http://scottish-hillrally.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/bordersbuzz_scottish-hillrally.co.uk As with all events we will need considerable help to run the event. 12. The organisers are pleased to announce that the level of interest for this year’s event has exceeded expectation and even although the event is four months away, entries have now passed the half way mark. In order to ensure that you get an entry for the event it is important that your entry and payment is sent off in a timely manner. With a limit of 50 entries for this year’s event we wouldn’t want you to miss what will certainly be another great event, with over 100 miles of competitive stages. The route builders are already hard at work on this year’s route and are certainly making maximum use of the venue and its all encompassing landscape; think the phrase being used is “something for everyone” As stated previously the quickest way to get all the Scottish Borders Hill Rally news, directly to your inbox is to subscribe to our new mailing list: http://scottish-hillrally.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/bordersbuzz_scottish-hillrally.co.uk Regards, The Scottish Borders Hill Rally Organising Team.

Remember as well, leaving it to the last minute to enter doesn't work either, the only way to avoid disappointment is to get your entry in promptly. 18. Vehicle is a TD5 Discovery: Jan 2003. My clutch was slipping and got a garage to fix it, however not a 100% happy with the job and have some queries that the garage have answered but I think there trying it on. So can anyone share their knowledge/expierience? Theres some small bolts that hold a plate on the front of the bellhousing between the engine/bellhousing, it goes all the way round. Is it normal for these to break and does it cause a problem if there not replaced, reckon there M6? The bellhousing/clutch acoustic cover was left off, I am told its because their impossible to refit as you cannot get to the top bolts with it on. I am told this is standard practice. I found that the one of the top bolts is missing in anycase, think its a M10, its the one that has the bracket supporting the pipe from the slave cylinder to the master. The clutch slave cylnder was also replaced, I seem to recall this had a heat shield but not sure. Anyone know if they do and perhaps post a picture of what it looks like. Thanks in anticipation.
  19. Just a reminder to all the competitors out there: Entries close this Friday the 25th June, the organisers will not accept promises as your entry. For an entry to be accepted the entries secretary must have a Completed Entry Form and payment. The Hill rally Club are working really hard to keep Hill Rallying alive and kicking in the UK, we can only continue to do this if we have support from competitors and sponsors. Every event has a break even point and yes times are hard, but the harsh reality is that The Scottish Hill Rally Club is run by a core of enthusiasts that work very hard to bring these events. The club cannot afford to subsidise any of its events, they must all break even as a minimum. Every Year we spend money on groundwork’s and deposits for land and thankfully we run events, however how long the club can afford to do this when the entries are not forthcoming is anyone’s guess. If you want to enter this year’s event then please get your entry in for Friday’s deadline. Likewise if you would be willing to come on board and sponsor the event or even a stage then give me a call. Sorry if the above seems harsh, but we hear time and time again of people waiting to see what happens with the event. In simple terms if there’s not enough entries then it wont. So get your entry in for Friday. Regards, Colin.
  20. We do need more help, if your not competing and willing to attend the event to help run it please let me know so that we can fit you into the staffing plan for the event. We need Setup people, Stage Commanders/deputies, Radio Marshals, Marshals instage and start/finish. So if your up for helping let me know colin.rodger@virgin.net or mobile 07767-726075, by doing so I can ensure you are included in the plans for the event and that you are Kept informed before the event.
  21. Phil, I had a similiar issue with my first D2(2002/TD5), it turned out to be the head gasket on its way out, low coolant. It was fine for a bit after topping up then it would do it again, also the coolant level was low. I had replaced the sensor to be sure it wasn't just a faulty sensor. I also cleaned the ecu plugs to be sure it wasn't oil in the loom. Colin.
  22. Here is some footage of this years new Griffin stage:
  23. Well were into countdown mode now with only 7 weeks to go until one of only two surviving Hill Rallies in the UK takes place. Some Competitors have been taking advantage of getting their entries in early and benefiting from the reduced entry fee. This option is now closed but you can still get your entry in for what will certainly be a formidable challenge for both man and machine. The 2010 Scottish Perthshire Hill Rally will certainly provide a challenging mix of terrain that will require vehicle reliability, navigational skills, determination and exemplary service support to allow you to complete the challenge. Many have said they can and will do a Hill Rally, but are you really up for the challenge of the Scottish Perthshire Hill Rally 2010? The UK media's interest is growing and certainly the event looks set to get coverage in many forms, whether it be printed, online or simply on the TV. Providing a good opportunity for you to get your team and message out there. The organising team are all working hard to make the 2010 Scottish Perthshire event the best event yet, we need your support to do this. Whether competitor, volunteer marshal or simply a spectator we want to see you there. If you have a question give one of the team above an email and they will be happy to answer it or alternatively give me a shout and I will get the relevant person to respond to you colin.rodger@virgin.net or mobile 07767-726075.
  24. The latest whisper is that there is only one split/merge in the whole event and that we have a 6.5 mile stage that has never been used in a Hill Rally before and certainly all who have seen it reckon it will be talked about for years to come.
