  1. I think with the steel pressed doors (2005?) came the larger barrels for matching ign and door key however all the defenders I've had used an ign key with a fairly long slim 'nose' this whilst not correct would open all the doors.
  2. The slot for the fairlead on the rear is offset to the RH, the front tray is central. not the best pic but you can see it here.
  3. Thanks, I will bare that in mind. im guessing you just mount the low line feet first agains the face on the 8274 winch tray. The D44 rear crossmember has an offset slot for the rope so im just mocking up a husky I have to fit in there. more thank likely turn into a massive job but easier now than when the tubs on.
  4. how about a cheap 1/4" drive UJ and extension with it poking out of the grill at about 30 degrees?
  5. As has been said the bulkhead would have to drop about 30mm before you could tilt it either way, its a massive job IMHO 50% more faff than a full chassis swap with that in mind I would seriously consider a brand new galv bulkhead to try and lessen the rigmarole of the job.
  6. Thanks chaps, I think I'll mod the rear to take a low line and ponder over the front. I have seen a couple of ready to run 8274s with rope on for £800-1000 which when compared to buying a 'good' lowline and then time, effort and money altering brackets closes the gap somewhat.
  7. I think i'm right in saying that no other winch apart from some of the uber expensive ones share the same mounting pattern? Are they a decent winch even in standard form? I have just bought a 'challenge truck' to rebuild into a trials/off road toy and am pondering what to do with the front 8274 cradle and rear D44 crossmember. Are they worth the premium they command?
  8. Interesting comments about MPG and weight, unless harry is wrong is GVW 3100kg? that's surely overweight with 5 proper sized passengers? Having just completed a 350 mile trip with my TDV8 RR on grabber AT with a 1100kg triple axle ifor behind for all of those and a 110 on it for 180 of them all at 60-70 loaded and 70-90 unloaded it returned around the 19mpg mark I certainly hope it improves!
  9. The hydraulics, 3 point linkage and PTO shafts are where the money is, also if its on drum brakes it will have deeper offset wheels they are the unimog equivalent of 1 ton wheels.
  10. Doesn't look terrible, the cab is probably better than mine. I'd give you a £1000 for it, don't insult the man @elbekko ! Softwood man myself, hardwood can baulk the synchros too much in my opinion.
  11. After sawdust can we get onto teflon chassis coatings please. You can't mention the 'U' word without pictures, it must be an early square cab?
  12. If you are using the plinths are good die grinding bit is just as easy.
  13. If you can stretch to 255/85/16 it will help in the ruts/snow. Toyos or Falkens would be somewhere around where id be looking, you want that bit of extra snig over AT's when the trailers on.
  14. Indeed, but for this trip portability is top priority I believe.
  15. Pump arrived yesterday and initial reports from the living room test run are positive, less than 5 mins to inflate. First stop is loch lomand on Monday I think.
  16. It sounds like a boost leak or exhaust manifold leak to me. I have a rubber cap that fits over the turbo inlet with an air fitting so you can use a compressor to pressurise the inlet system and check for air leaks, very useful on Mercedes sprinters as they have all many of air issues.
  17. Thanks as ever chaps, bravo 110 hand pump ordered. Yes if we were going with the landrover i'd use the OBA, I could blow it up in the workshop and take the transit, or the trailer however she's off up to the highlands in a motorhome with mum and grandma so lifting a solid or fully inflated kayak is out the question. I suppose I could bumper mount a PTO hydrovane and rig up a chain/belt drive from a jacked up front wheel or even an extra crank pulley; make an adaptor to replace one or two injectors and use the engine as a half pump or even fit some air valves to the field roller, pre charge it and they could tow it behind...
  18. Good morning, firstly apologies if this has been covered but the search didn't throw anything up. My better half has bought herself an inflatable 3 man kayak as you do... the pump the shop were selling was rather weedy and about £100 so that got left behind. As you probably guess I am looking to get a 12v compressor that can double as a rapid kayak blower-upperer and handy tyre pump should it be needed when away from home. looking on Ebay and Amazon there seems to a large choice with most of them coming out the same factory I guess. So are any better than others? any links and suggestions welcome. Will.
  19. @Mudmonkey Don't you have some ?
  20. I use one of these for gear oil and ATF makes the job much easier.
  21. The filter for taking the oil out the air? I must admit I never bothered, the air coming out a workshop compressor isn’t exactly Sarahan dry and I wasn’t using it for spray painting ( tried it once but it didn’t like it at all got far too hot. )
  22. Don't forget a snatch block for increased control!
  23. I used a tee in the rocker breather hose so it pulled the oily air out the engine, worked fine for me.
