  1. i will trash it some more today can't become worse anyways....thought the carpet was a bit wet on the passenger floor. removed everything and found that the panel had been repaired once, and had now rusted through again... who in the right mind comes up with the idea of putting out salt in winters??!!
  2. @aragorn: Did as you said and it seems like the vibrations went down like 50%. After that i kept driving as usual(city, hold car with brakes etc) and they got worse again. So i will change the discs and try to drive properly instead. Thanks for all your help!
  3. i will give it a try, just have to find a road long enough for it to get up to 60......it is a diesel with auto after all.
  4. yes exactly those, sick thing is that i bought new tires half a year ago, rims are straight, swivel bearings have been taking care of a year ago, track rod ball joints seem to be in very good condition as well. And it only appears while braking...... either way good to know it might not be the calipers, another guess is the steering damper....... BogMonster: sounded a lot better when i did it your way, some people told me that they engage diff lock before parking in steep hills. Didn't really make a difference i thought...
  5. I was wondering if anyone ever had problems with refurbished calipers? I bought my 300tdi discovery with new proffesionally refurbished calipers(sandblasted etc...) and had a slight vibration problem at the beginning when braking down from higher speeds. It now has gotten to the point where it got so bad that it is almost underivable....... Now i have changed drag link ball joints and everything else that could possibly be the cause but no difference. No warped discs, they are almost brand new as well as the pads. I talked to the previous owner and he said that when they sand blasted the calipers the holes that hold the pads became bigger and that this might cause the vibration. Then he told me to put some kind of a sleeve in between which would require some drilling to fit them. Anyone ever heard of that? Also i was wondering how you park your land rovers in steep environments without "dropping" it on the gearbox. Whenever i park mine and put it from P to D or R it has to force its way into it and doesn't sounds healthy at all.... Appreciate any help
  6. love the fork awesome response it has..... no i got a son and the money went into a family car instead (98' disco 1). However i still got 2 hardtails left, one day i will get a fully again.
  7. sweet taste i bikes you have! how much does it weigh? used to have big hit dh's and kona's....
  8. Little offtopic on underinflated tires. I work for a local tyre shop and it is insane to see how many people run with wrong tire pressure(most of the time so less). Result is like mentioned above overheating which makes the tire melt inside. Pumping air in it when it has gone under low pressure is dangerous and you can easily loose your life on it when sitting right in front of it. We had several cases were people pumped them up to 2.5 bar and they exploded immediatley(luckily to the inside not outside). Definitley not a waste of tax money........should check trucks to, half of them are ticking bombs on public roads...
  9. Problem solved it was the ball joint! Thanks for all your help and advices, sure saved me a lot of money!
  10. Would need the part numbers for the ball joints, found them for the 200tdi but wasnt sure if its exactly the same. Is right and left thread the same on right hand drive than left hand drive? which one is the right/left hand threaded one? If i stand in front of the car i would need the lower right one..... Where can i get a part catalogue for the disco1? only found the electrical part one....
  11. had a bit more time today and checked again and found that steering drag link moves waaaaaaaaaaay to much. I asume that causes the problem. Also found out that it leaks a hell lot of power steering fluid.......and that the antifreeze dissapears somewhere. Also when shifting from D to R it makes a nasty "Klonk" sound........oh well summer is long....
  12. i only have the left side of the lever illuminated and it does get very hot. You cant touch the letters for more then a few seconds. Just a guess but someone might have accidently replaced them with stronger ones on yours....who knows. They dont have a use anyways.......
  13. it doesn't drag to one side, and yes it has abs(works fine as far as i can tell). Can it be the calipers or anything like that? The brakes had been changed by a very well known land rover expert over here (John Hamilton). However im not sure if it was genuine or britpart (if that matters). Bearings seem totally fine to, swivels i didnt check. How do you check them? or is it that obvious if they are done?
  14. checked brakes and changed tires but it is still there.....a bit less though had bf goodrich T/A's on and switched to cooper H/t
